DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD!!!!!!!!

Now lets sign Leftwich, let Ratliff and Clemens battle it out in TC, a competition i believe Ratliff will win, and move forward with the 2009 NEW, NEW YORK JETS!

I believe that Clemens will be a more than adequate hold the fort type of guy for the short term. If Jets fans can get over their obsession with the long passing game(which has done wonders for Oakland for the better part of a decade) and accept that you win football games with a strong running game, limited turnovers, and staunch defense, I think Clemens can keep us competitive. Although I don't like him, I think it's unfair to say he got a fair shake. He probably has a better grasp of the offense than Favre and he won't be given unwarranted free rein to screw up like Favre was.

I believe Ratliff has tremendous upside, and was overlooked because of his short collegiate career, but I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up this year. He has the physical tools, and he's been in the system for two whole seasons now. If the Jets don't feel the same way, they have to seriously consider Nate Davis, a guy who has shown himself to be a quality decision maker and has a great pedigree. Ideally, I'd like to see us spend whatever first day picks we have on the defense or an offensive playmaker.

Clemens should some real potential 2 years ago when he got his chance. They would have a won a few more games if McCareins could of held on to the ball and if Clemens had some protection.
Hopefully Clemens did learn some things from Favre (ex Hasselbeck, Brunell) and is ready to take over this team. It would be in the best interest of the team if he is ready to go instead of signing some retread to take over for a year or two.

If we get a QB in this draft (which i doubt) I wouldnt mind a late round pick of Graham Harrell from Texas Tech

Odd years haven't been good to the Jets lately and with their late season performance looking like #1 pick potential for the 2010 draft I'd hold off on drafting a QB this year and let Ratliff, Clemens and Ainge duke it out for the job. Alternately they could hire Leftwich to come in here and try to go 7-9 to 9-7. That'd be one way to stay on the SOJ merry-go-round.

Any rational person would not need an explanation, but if you insist.

Clemens has shown NOTHING in his 3 years with the Jets yet people think he can magically step in and be the starter? If he is so good why couldn't he win the starting job in camp 2 years ago when there was an open QB competition between him and Chad who has had 2 roatator cuff surgeries and has an absolute rag for an arm?

Ratliff beat up 3rd string defenses in the pre-season yet Jets fans near and far were praising him as the savior of this organization. A fair evaluation of how good of a starting QB he is? Hardly.

I don't know how you got that I was "suggesting" Erik Ainge out of my original post - if you actually read it you would see that I was simply looking for some info on him as I know nothing about the kid.

I think Clemmens is A LOT better than we have seen up until this point. He hasnt been given a very good chance to perform behind a decent line.

I'm not a big fan of Clemens, however he had garbage of an OL in front of him. He had no chance.

Tom Brady did once too. What of the beating up of 3rd string defenses says he is not the answer? I'm confused. I thought success was a good thing.

You wanted to find some info on the guy who was behind Clemens and Ratliff all year long?

I am convinced at this point that Clemens will not be the starter... I think they will look and pick up a veteran in FA to throw in the mix and whoever it is will end up beating out Clemens... and then the following year Ratliffe may make it to the top. I'd be very surprised if they end up going with Clemens. If they did, I would expect a QB carousel to take place by week 5. I have a feeling the QB position is going to be an ugly fix.

Clemens had no line to work with in 2007. Hell, Chad had his worst year in 2007 too. I'm not saying that Clemens is going to be a great QB or anything, but I really don't think we have seen his best yet

I like Josh Freeman as well. He should certainly be available at 17. His numbers are similar to Stafford's and the same negative things that they say about Freeman are the same they say about Stafford. And Stafford had more talent to work with than Freeman.

Coaches like to win with their guys. I definitely think now we might consider a QB with that 17th pick. There are 3 1st rd. QBs in this draft and we are a team in need of one.

I suspect the Jets will keep Ratliff and Clemens and bring aboard some type of Veteran QB. They'll probably have a 3 way competition for the job in training camp. I don't think they draft a 'Franchise QB' until 2010 because it's a deeper year for QB's and I'm sure Rex would like to see what he has this year. I want a WR or DE in the first round.

Okay we get it. Still, if he impresses Rex Ryan in training camp, he's a possibility.

I feel his footwork isn't good enough, but I like Freeman a lot more than Sanchez. He looks like a pro QB.

Is Ratl.iff far enough along in his development to take the helm? I doubt it. I don't believe that Ainge is NFL starting material (being a starter in college was pushing it), and Clemens is typical Tedford material. So as of right now, we have no starter on the roster. And none of the veteran QBs who will be available make me smile either.

The only way the Jets can compete this year to to have a game manager-type QB running the offense. and lean on the running game and defense.

In other words, it'll be a long season.

Clemens did the same thing Ratliff did last year against third stringers in 2006. Let them fight it out in training camp and let the best man win.

And Clemens was awful this past offseason while Ratliff lit up the same competition. I'd go with the more recent information.
