Fitz is no superstar but Geno has played the role of wretch quite well. Maybe Geno is the rare exception who turns it around, but almost every time a QB looks like a total bust after his first couple seasons, he's a total bust.
Geno hasn't come close to wretch yet. He's been a lousy QB but to lose games for your team in any significant numbers you need to be terrible. Like Jimmy Clausen terrible.
It's not clear how much of an anchor Geno is. The really bad year in 2014 was really bad but Michael Vick was no better when they played him at QB. The 2014 Jets were just a poorly coached mess of a team with not enough talent and basically almost everybody on the roster wound up looking bad at some point except for Mangold. Even Mo got himself thrown out of a competitive game that year.
None of that changes the obvious flaws I pointed out about Geno and his own abilities, or lack thereof.
we will have to reconcile ourselves to watching Geno this year, I guess. With a better coach who has a game plan he may have a degree of success. my fingers are crossed.

Right, he wasn't ready to go and he projected none of the leadership or performance qualities you expect out of your QB. Geno oscillated between just enough to get the job done and total trainwreck. That's what keeps him out of the wretch category. A wretch is never good enough and always costs his team the game if the ball is in his hands when it counts. We have no real idea what Geno will do in the future. Things don't look bright at this point but there are successful NFL QB's who have come out of the type of start he had. In fact there are successful QB's who came out of the type of start Clausen had also, just very few of them. If Fitzpatrick was willing to play for the appropriate salary and cap hit I'd be much in favor of having him play QB for us next year. That's because he's more likely to give us a stable performance at QB, although probably equally unlikely to be good enough to get us to the playoffs. If it's Geno, well we'll get another roll of the dice and sometimes you roll a natural 7 when you need one.
Which QBs were as bad as Geno and did okay in the end? I can think of Alex Smith and Fitz. Eli struggled at first but he wasn't Geno bad.
no way we go 5-11 either fitz signs and we go 19-0 and become the greatest team in the history of all sports or... geno starts and we go 0-12 ,we get kicked out of the league with 4 games remaining. we are so bad they refuse to even recognize us and therefor do not even credit us with losses. geno ,woody, mac and bowles are publicly executed in an isis style video. am i doing this right?
