I do think that the dink and dunking can work if it's done impeccably and you can mix in just a few long balls here and there, kind of like 2004. But the problem that most concerns me with Penny these days is that his decision making seems to be a lot worse. He seems a lot less poised and he made a LOT of crucial late game mistakes when games were easily winnable.
Dink and dunk with longballs??? Then the opposing D will know when the longballs are coming, because we'd have to put in a different QB to throw it down the field.
Whether you throw long or short doesn't matter to the defense -- you need to make them truly believe you're going to murder them with the run every time. They must fear that you can beat with them the run anytime you want to. Otherwise, throwing the ball is a losing battle in a play-action offense like that run by BS.
dinking and dunking with Pennington might work until you get to the Playoffs and face a stout, aggressive D, and consequently, he leads the Offsense to 3 points, like 2004. face it, if we make the Playoffs this year with Pennington at the helm, the Steelers, Chargers, Patriots, and Jags D's will all be licking their chops.
You guys are funny as hell, the Chad haters the Kellen haters the Ryan lovers and vise versa. This whole situation will be much clearer in a few weeks. Many of the questions that are being thrown back and forth about both of our QB's and any draft choice will be answered by next Sat by 4 P.M. No where has Mangini, who's opinion will be the final word, ever said he has lost confidence in Kellen. No where have you heard either him or Tanny guarantee that Chad will even be on the roster this coming season. They say they EXPECT but do not GUARANTEE. No where was anyone from the Jets F/O or C/S ever quoted as saying there would be no way the Jets would draft Ryan. All this crap has come from the " pundits ", "experts", and so called guys and gals with inside knowledge of the Jets thinking on these matters, anyway you look at it, it's all B.S. and speculation. Folks make no mistake, this is not your Herm Edwards, Terry Bradway Jets where weeks before, you knew who the Jets were going to pick. These folks make the CIA look like amateurs when it comes to passing out information or showing there hand in anyway before they make a move. The one thing I expect from this F/O and C/S is the totally unexpected. I have my opinion about who will be under center for the start of the season. As well as who I would LIKE to see under center for the start of the season. Yet, like all the other assholes with opinions, don't mean a thing till it all plays out. Yet, here are a few things we can be sure of with this management, one, they have a plan, the same plan they came in with when they took over the operation. Two, they will follow that plan come hell or high water, they will not panic from a season like last year. Three, they have an owner that is on board for one more year and has made it public knowledge, so this is not a win this year or else team. Four an most important this F/O and C/S have drafted the guys that will do well in there system and are now assembling the correct players to fill it out. Expect those's they have drafted or pick up in F/A to be the one who will be starting and being the future of the NYJets ..
To be fair, I do think in 04 if his arm wasnt hanging by a thread, we would have been real SB contenders. Our run game was filthy. Now I dont think we have a shot with him to do more than lose in the first round if at all make the playoffs.
If Chad's arm is as bad as you are convinced that it is, then he won't get out of the competition this off season. So what are you worried about? It's all going to be taken care of, and everybody on the team will see how it really is.
What we are all worried about is we know Chad is done and we saw nothing to indicate that Clemens was anything special. Beating out Chad means nothing for this team other than we have a young inexperienced QB who didn't get enough reps who beat out a QB who was outright benched the year before on a horrible offensive team that went 4 & 12.
Thats it in a nutshell , re; QB situation. So drafting a decent QB makes more sense than drafting a (very?) good RB, like say McFadden when we have TJ and Leon still on th books. The QB situation is THE most glaring hole now on the depth chart.
The Pats do implement that system, but that is more of Brady Checking down to his RB than the play being designed where your #1 target on that given play is only going 8 yards deep.
That would be true except for one thing which people love to deny but it can't be denied. This team has been built to win this year. A QB will help you in a year or 2. A great RB will help you in game 1. Which isn't to say they won't take a QB in round two. I think they will and just like when Clemens got here it may be a competition for all 3 of them to see who wins the job.
I'm not all that sold on any of the other QBs, albeit I know less about them. Because Henne had a good senior bowl, most people see him or Flacco who I just flat out do not want as the next best thing. Someone else said in another thread that this years QB class is shy on depth, I'd have to agree. I truly believe that Ryan has 'IT' and can be an effective NFL QB. He is reasonably mobile, CAN throw downfield, which we didn't see last year due to his WRs. Ordinary college QBs don't do this.
