Nothing moronic about your posts, Harpua, however, which offer little more than namecalling. Read the post. I agree Cutler should move to the top of the depth chart if he comes here. That being said, I don't want him play one down longer than he deserves if starts to stink the joint up like fucking Favre did last season.

Yes, Favre stunk. I don't give a crap about 6 TDs in a game or great throws--did the Jets make the playoffs or not? Did Favre make plays down the stretch to win games, or did he make mistakes that cost the team games. You know the answer.

Favre was a mistake, and the kind of simplistic grab that Tannenbaum makes all the time. He's Daniel Snyder with a better calculator. The Faneca signing was another example. Gross overpayment for a fading former Pro Bowler, when he had just as good a guard the year before and he could've saved $41 million. But that's another story.

    My point is...

Competing means you play well you or your risk getting replaced. From what's going on in Denver, it doesn't sound like Cutler has the stones to stand up to competition.

The front office went out and drafted 2 qbs and picked up a 3rd in free agency. Let's see what how well they did.

If the 3 youngsters can't get it done, it suggests that Tannenbaum and company are bad judges of QB talent...in that case,

Why would you trust their judgement that Cutler is going to be a great QB and not a fragile headcase, who never posted a winning record in college or the pros, and who's got a very serious disease on top of it?

wow, that's how you read his stated position that he feels he was lied to and the coach doesn't want to commit to him, so he doesn't want to play for that coach? that's as arbitrary as interpreting his actions as that he doesn't like the color orange and doesn't want to play in those colors. you see, absent of any evidence, you can completely make up any interpretation of his behavior to make it fit your position.

so, with that established that Cutler has no problems with the color green, you should have no worries about him being afraid of competition, because clearly we have no orange on our team to hold him back.

Wait? Your Claiming that Kendall is half the blocker that Faneca is? Yeeesh.

The Issue in Denver is not about competition. The Broncos were not looking to bring in Cassel to compete with Jay, but replace him. YEs, Cutler is being a whiny bitch about it, but he has the right. In his mind the team tried to replace him, then lied to him about it afterwards. He is a Probowler and has a big time Ego. He also has a big time Arm and his teams put up a ton of points.

While Tanny makes the final call on the Draft, it was Shortty who worked out Kellen in a personal visit. Its he who should take the majority of the blame if he turns out badly.

Ainge is a late round pick. Most of them will bust. I don't put anyone's "QB evaluating skill" on him if he sucks.

Ratliff looks like he could be a decent young guy and provides good depth at the least. A very good pick up so far.

I hope these guys get the chance to prove themselves, but would not mind getting a young Probolw caliber QB on the Jets if we can.

I trust what I have seen in Cutler. He has avery good arm and can attack NFL defenses. His teams have not won, but he has played on a team with one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

As for the disease, well, thats a call for the Doctors to make. I know plenty of people with Diabetes who live normal active lives. I don't think it will affect him much now that he knows about it and takes his insulin.

I'm an Endocrinologist - I treat Diabetes for a living and I have to agree with you on this point. As long as they're motivated to closely monitor their blood sugar, follow their carbohydrate intake, and always use their insulin, my patients with Type 1 Diabetes (the kind that Cutler has) lead normal lives without any effect on their work or activities. Granted, none of my patients are professional athletes, but I did meet one guy with Type 1 Diabetes who climbed Mount Everest.

Maybe this is the crux of my disinterest in Cutler...a player I was much higher on when he was available in the draft, then now, when he's actually a more proven commodity.

I like home grown. Find your own talent, pick your own talent.

Peyton Manning is a great example. Best QB in the league right now, and for the last ten years--I don't care how many rings Brady has...Manning is the best. He wins 5 Super Bowls playing for Belichick.

Did I want him in 1997, when he could've come to us as a junior with the first overall pick? Absolutely! Would I want him now? ................................................................................................................................................................................................................... I guess so.

If Manning comes here, no matter what he achieves...it's about Peyton Manning. Not about the Jets. Just like when Favre got here last year, it was NOT ABOUT THE JETS, it was about Brett. All this kind of focus on one guy makes football seem more like tennis, and I hate tennis. I like team sports, I believe in the experience and character of players playing for each, for the colors, for their cities, for their fans.

I root for the team...the glory is when the TEAM is respected, admired, envied, and feared.

Peyton Manning comes to the Jets and wins the Super Bowl, what's the headline:

"Manning so good, even the Jets couldn't fuck him up."

He's bigger than the team, like Favre was bigger than the team, like any "imported" player who made his bones elsewhere is BIGGER than my Jets. And I don't like it. I HATE free agency, there, I've said it. Just like some guys hate when players yuk it up with opposing players after getting their asses kicked. I hate the co-mingling of blood. Keep your carpet baggers, make mine Jet green, through and through.

Home scouted...home picked...home developed...home grown...from Draft Day to your last day playing the game. That's the way I like it, and I don't like it any other way.

Because when the payoff finally comes--and I do believe it will (I ain't no troll, hell, I'm a friggin eternal optimist) On that glorious day when all our patience, loyalty and agony is finally redeemed, it's going to be about the NEW YORK JETS..53 guys in green, 77,000 in the stands, millions more at home...not one guy who came in an rescued us from ourselves.

Listen, the bottom line is Cutler is a pro bowl QB that would man the position for the next 10 years.
You got confidence in saying that about anyone else coming out of college or that's on our current roster?
What the hell difference does it make where you find talent. Just find "our guy" whoever he is and lets start winning some fuckin' playoff games!

there was a guy who was in the olmpics as a cyclist a number of years ago that was a world class cyclist, which is much more difficult for a diabetic to do. diabetes is a long term affect disease, jay cutler will probably lose his vision, lose his feet, end up being on a blood cleaner 3 times a week. but those things wont happen for another 30 years. i would have almost no concerns about his disease being an issue for the rest of his playing career. IF he does what he needs to do to control it.

it would be a pretty horrible thing if he went out on the field with low blood sugar and punched someone or peed on himself though :)

i get what your saying man. i like that homegrown talent and you are right the favre thing was exactly as you said it. and peyton would be the same way.... i dont think that jay cutler would come with that kind of fanfare though. he is a probowler but he isnt peyton manning. he does not command the presence that favre and manning and brady do.

he would be more like drew brees coming into new orleans. not that that has worked out all that well i dont think it would be all about jay cutler.

like someone said earlier its about getting lucky sometimes, and its tough to be lucky in the draft. you can waste years and years getting a guy who is going to be the saviour but proves not to be.

Well, it's true, Cutler hasn't really established himself yet. It would be more like Favre, ironically. Many younger fans don't know, and even us older fans forget that he started with Atlanta, but he will forever be associated with the Pack.

As far as Diabetes goes, I know it's not a big concern if it's well controlled. I'm very familiar with it as my wife is Type 1.

    Let's see what happens.

Competition at the QB position is almost laughable. A top NFL QB is going to be the highest paid player on the team. You can't afford competition between top QB talent you can only afford it for B level players who are at best backup material.

QB is the one position where competition is almost a sure guarantee of failure.

QB competitions in the NFL is a result of management failing to adequately anaylize the talent on their team.

In our case if we are to go with one of our young QB's, the one we go with needs all the work in TC with the first team if they wash out the next guy goes in but a true QB comp just sets back our program one more year.

They have to hand this team to either Clemens or Ratliff from day one and let them succeed or fail, they should not be looking over their shoulder. Their job is to lead this team to success not be second guessed.

If management doesn't believe in either one of our 3 guys get someone else and unload the one that isn't going to be more than a backup. If management is wrong they get fired in a couple of years.

I would think it is safe to say that no HC in the NFL wants to be going into camp forced with a QB competition. They would all want to know before hand who there QB is going to be.

Clemens is at least a good prospect. Why does he get such awful reviews around here?

A lot of people refuse to acknowledge how much impact a joke of an offensive line has on a QB, let alone an inexperienced QB. I swear some people even think that football only consists of QB's and Receivers.
