you missed something, but it happens so regularly that it might as well just be assumed by now: Kerley fielding another punt inside the ten fucking yard line.

    GOOD
    1. Yes.
    2. Another Yes, but we could use some speed
    3. Yes. He just cannot be your feature back. Ever.
    4. Good final drive in regulation. Play calling spotty, though. We should have scored a TD in OT. Gailey went punk.

    BAD
Agree on 1,2,3. Especially 1. Why run on first down every time? That is not balance. that is dumb. Cannot say about Milliner. He might look awful in practice. We do not know.

    UGLY

Yes and Yes. I said before the game we should go nickel and even a lot of dime. Then I heard Westoff say we should have gone nickel. i knew that Westoff was a smart guy. Good post.

RE #3 on "The Good" - Powell is a decent 3rd-down back, especially against blitz-happy teams, because he can both pass-block and contribute as a receiver/in the screen game game. However, I think a lot of Powell's performance today here had more to do with good screen play calls against a fairly weak linebacking corps.

RE #3 on "The Bad" - our TE's are generally garbage-heap level players. Amaro might have been decent but is missing this season with an injury. It's natural for us to use more higher-#-receiver sets when that's our relative-strength, personnel-wise. I'd also note that Enunwa (#81) is a solid blocking receiver who has often been our WR3 even if he's clearly not a true TE.

RE#4 on "The Bad" - @NCJetsfan put it well. I'd note I suspect there's a reason at work here beyond pure stubbornness because he does give Leo Williams playing time. I think if Milliner was clearly outplaying the other guys in practice, Bowles would give him a shot, all else being equal. It would only make him look better if he could make Milliner work when Rex couldn't.

RE #2 on The Ugly - We doubled OBJ plenty. His 70ish yard TD was a busted coverage, I think partially caused by DBs playing out of position.

The Jets did everything the could to lose this game, but Fitz and Marshall wouldn't let it happen. If you take away any one of the punt return TD, offsides on 4th, or defensive holding on 3rd and 20, the Jets win this game in regulation.

Great win, and hopefully a wake-up call for our special teams.

Bobby April has coached special teams on 8 NFL teams for a reason. He sucks and so has his squads.......

The same o-line that's either 1st or 2nd in sacks given up and blocks for the 6th leading rusher in the NFL? Those #s are pretty impressive when you consider the fact Gailey likes to empty a lot and doesn't like to use TEs in the passing or running game.

    Here's the thing...

Powell has been fine and you say he's been under utilized, well this maybe the first time since week 1 and 2 that Powell has been fully healthy TO be able to help in the passing game.

Cumberland officially is the #3 TE behind Davis and "Enumwa"

Millner is still the #4 CB behind Cro, Skrine and Walls so he's a bit behind the 8 ball.

    ST is awful, ugh.

get real bro. they aren't playing like those numbers indicate in recent weeks. they don't even have some of the same players in the lineup that build those statistics the OL struggled today against the worst defense in the NFL. its a concern

Agree, but we have been trending downwards for weeks now. Ivory hasn't had a truly dominant game in quite a while (remember, 35 of the yards from last week came from one run in which he broke 5 tackles), and in 2 of the last 3 weeks (@Houston and today), we have gotten manhandled in pass protection. Also, remember that Colon was an integral part of some of our early success on the ground.

What had Millner DONE to deserve playing time? Except for a short stretch at the end of 2013, his career looks like an imitation of Elvis Paterson. Just BECAUSE a guy is a high draft pick doesn't ENTITLE him PT over other professionals.

True, but you also have to consider the level of competition. Against topflight competition, they won't get it done.

I watched the eagles/pats game today. On every punt return today sproles catches the punt and immediately accelerates vertically. Kerley catches every punt, surveys the field for 3 seconds. dances horizontally, and then gets tackled.

Yes, the thing is, some guys are just good at it and others aren't. Kerley just doesn't have that vision/instinct that you need to be an explosive. And, it's not like his saving grace is savvy fielding decisions (he fields the ball inside the 10 yard line constantly) or blazing speed (his speed is mediocre by NFL standards). He just doesn't have much going for him.

I'm afraid it's Jets fans that are unrealistic about the o-line. Other than Breno, as expected, struggling against an uber athletic DE like JPP, most of the pressure came from blitzes. 3 sacks on 50 pass attempts is not bad. We had 3 sacks on Eli on just 34 attempts. The guys on the other side get paid too. I just find it funny when people get up in arms about the likes of JPP and Watts making plays against our o-line or us not being able to run against 8 in the box. All I'm saying is that you can find other things to worry about than the o-line.
