I kind of expected this, who else is he going to blame. It does however look bad for the next coach who may give him a shot. If he is saying it is all Rex's fault what is he going to say about Lovie if/when he gets cut? Why bother giving a shot to a guy who is a whiney bitch, who just blames others when he fails.
I should certainly hope that Rex Ryan played favorites with Bart Scott over Vernon Gholston. Bart Scott is a good player, a team leader, and deserves to be a coach's favorite. Vernon Gholston should consider himself lucky that he didn't get cut after his first season under Ryan.
A couple of comments. 1. Gholston, IMHO could be the WORST top ten pick in the history of the game. Now people would immediately pick Ryan Leaf as the worst, but its not even close. I'm not saying Leaf was anything more than a colossal bust, but at least he accomplished SOMETHING. The guy threw 14 NFL TDs. He had a few 300 yd games Gholston in his 3 years contributed virtually NOTHING beyond taking a roster spot and more than a lifetime's worth of money. If you can think of any top ten choice that was this kind of a complete WHIFF I'd like to hear about it. It might help ease the pain. 2. His comments in the article are laughable. Its just that simple 3. However his last 2 years in NY should give Jet fans a reason to take any of Rex's positive comments about a players potential success with a grain of salt. Most can still remember some of Rex's effusive comments about Vernon in camp his first two seasons as HC BTW - I didn't watch long enough to see Maybin in action. I'm sure he'll get some prime time action in the next game
Why are you confused, Rex? Gladys threw you under the bus, because his entire football career is based on excuses. You just happen to be this week's excuse.
Gholston is the biggest bust in Jets draft history. As for Scott, If #1 pick Gholston could outplay undrafted 31 year old Bart Scott he would have been on the field. Coaches like winning more than playing favorites.
I supported Gholston more than probably anyone else on this board. He can go jump in front of bus for all I care now. What a clown. Rex didn't give him enough chances? Like specifically designing plays to allow him to get his 1 needed sack to achieve his bonus? Dick.
What a joke. How can you sit here and bash the Jets who sat there and gave him plenty of chances to succeed while you're doing the same exact thing in Chicago? I'd say this shows more about his character than anything else. He seems pretty self-absorbed and deluded if he thinks we never gave him a fair shot.
It says a lot when a player has the physical measurables of an athletic freak, and the Raiders still pass on you. Fuck you, Mangini.
Another thought on this, don't you think if he wanted to be a great football player the Ghost would have been pissed off by Rex's lack of "love" and went out to prove him wrong? I must have missed what he has done to prove anyone wrong.
I feel bad for Gholston. Now it appears the Bears aren't giving him a fair chance to be good either. What are these teams thinking? He is a beast and he keeps getting held back. Odds are after the Bears release him, his third team will also hold him back. Assuming there is a third team.
Couldn't agree more. There's clearly a conspiracy here to hold Gholston down and for these teams to put worse players on the field.. Gooddell should investigate this..
The only way to save face is for him to release the following statement- "After several years in the NFL I have come to the conclusion that I possess neither the talent nor the drive to play professional football. I would like to thank Woody Johnson for his generous contribution to my retirement portfolio, and to Eric Mangini, "Made you look!!!"
