I knew as jets fans, there would be overreaction, but come on.. these threads are crazy! this is my 1st season with you guys, is it always this way during the season? offseason was borderline crazy but this is just nuts. I love it though, y'all keep me entertained as hell at work on this reality show of a site ^_^ Plus here in philly there aint no other jets fans so you guys are all i got to talk jets with unless i go to the game.
Sure, sure ......I am sure Namath, Maynard, Snell, Boozer, Philbin all said "let's all forget 1967 or 1968 as a rebuilding year.....and enjoy how well the Defense is looking". Today's players and coaches should say NO MATTER what we have to work with our goal EACH year is to win a CHAMPIONSHIP
You have every right to be pissed off and enraged. Personally, I have been "simmering down" with this organization for 45 years. Meanwhile, the Giants win 2 SBs....that's because they know how to keep and acquire talent. Consistency not mediocrity.
I think that in today's NFL, almost any team can go from bad to good by throwing money around in one offseason. The problem is that it isn't sustainable. After a couple years of decent success, that team will then get into salary cap hell and decline and then "rebuild" again. I am not old enough to speak about the Hess years, but for the Woody Johnson era, it seems like we go through this cycle of peaks and valleys, many times because we had to get rid of home grown players. Aaron Glenn and Marcus Coleman being sent to the Texans come to mind. Remember that year we lost Randy Thomas, Coles, and Chad Morton to the 'Skins? Also after Rex's first year, we didn't have any cap room to acquire quality free agents because Tanny had to move heaven and earth to keep us under the cap year after year. While circumstance played a role in this, I don't ever remember a consistent growth in getting home grown talent. I think that Calvin Pace being our longest tenured player speaks volumes to that.
I stand corrected. D'Brick and Mangold in 2006. Harris in 07. Pace is the 4th longest coming in 2008. Not sure where I heard that, but Pace has been here awhile so I believed it.
