NFW. The only way they would take a QB is if it were a Peyton Manning/Andrew Luck type. Neither guy this year is in that class. John Idzik will be brought back to the Jets as a consultant before they dump Bortles this April.
Yeah I guess but he was really at the end of his career and Philly was done with him. Maybe it was a Machiavellian trade on Philly's part to screw with the Skins _
Each team above us most likely has their eye on a player they consider a 'Blue Chip'[pun not intended]. Chip most likely has a hard on for MM. Those teams are gonna have Chip over a barrel 'cause pick 20 is prolly out of Blue Chip range. So Chip is gonna have to really load up on his side of the deal. I think it's very likely that Tenn., Jax, or Wash. deal down: Depending on who's there when they pick and what player they're in love with. Gonna be interesting.
Those "blue chip" players are the reason I think Mariota could still be there at #6. There are studs at multiple positions other than QB. Teams drafting high might not want to pass them up.
Yes, but the leverage to be offered a package to some extent depends on the appearance of how likely it would be they would otherwise pick that player themselves.
I don't really think so. I think Philly is smart enough to know who is legitimately thinking about taking that player and who is not, so they'd jump over us to get to Jax. The fear factor for Philly (the leverage for Jax) is that we try to beat that deal with Jax. _
Why would they think Jax would pick Mariota ? They just took Bortles last year with the #3. There's no way they are giving up on him already.
Dude, read what I wrote. Not what you think I wrote. There is no way Jax is moving on from Bortles. _
So you think that if Mariota was sitting there at #3, that Jax would deal the pick to Philly instead of taking Fowler, Williams or White ?
I don't know. No one does. That's my fear. If we're so willing to pass on a potential franchise QB for a bunch of picks, why wouldn't Jax who has as many or more holes than us not pass on 3 guys who AREN'T franchise DEs or DTs or WRs? _
Because those guys are considered to be franchise DEs, DTs, or WRs. (Granted, no one knows absolutely for sure, yada, yada, yada.) The three guys that I mentioned are projected to be day 1 starters IIRC. There's much less question about them at their positions than there is with Mariota at QB. That's why I don't think anyone ahead of the Jets will be trading out.
I'll say this, Foles to Marshall and Decker would look really sweet next season if this rumor is true
It has nothing to do with plenty of people. It's a broad scenario which is dependent in the overwhelming opinion being that he was, and that wasn't the overwhelming opinion of Rogers.
Two red herrings. Playing day 1 as a DT or DE or WR is expected and playing day 1 as a QB is becoming more and more accepted as not the way to go. And none of those guys are being thought of as "franchise" players at those positions. Nobody is comparing White to Moss or Rice and he might not even be the first WR picked. Fowler might be the THIRD DE/OLB taken and folks calling Mariota "raw" have to acknowledge that Williams is just as raw. And in all likelihood he'll be off the board by the 3. _
Popular opinion had him as a top 3-10 prospect, as shown by the links provided. I would consider that a "Franchise player." And if you consider that franchise player, than it is possible for a franchise QB to fall to the 20's.
Because Nick Foles has value to the Jets and not the Jaguars. I'm not sure what the Eagles would need to trade up to #3 without giving up Foles. The Jets trade makes sense only because the Eagles would give the Jets a young QB that they would be picking at #6 anyways. The Jets get a QB plus draft picks. The Jaguars would need a lot more picks since Foles isn't valuable to them.
Oh I agree with that but I don't know whether the Jets like Foles or not. I'm just fearful that someone 2-5 will make some trade with Philly to steal Mariota from us. Jax and Tenn and Oak and Wash obviously don't want Foles, so Philly will need to pony up some other value. _
