I was talking about my overall list, three of them were drafted 10-15 years, everyone else is a mixed bag. I was just thinking of players off the top of my head when replying to the other poster. If you look at any school, there will be failed players in the NFL. It's part of the business. Blaming the program for this is silly to me though, I'm not even trying to be a homer right now. The fact is, they have produced quality starters and some shit the bed type players as well. Every program does.
I don't like Bosa as an NFL prospect. I'm not defending OSU to be a homer, I would have this argument for any program. To completely write off s draft prospect just because of the school they went to is just dumb to me. You look at the player, their talent, their position, and what they have to offer. Not what school they played for. It's too early to tell with Smith if he will be bad. Nugent wasn't terrible for us either. We just didn't want to spend the money on a kicker like other teams were willing to do when he became a FA. Ghost was a terrible pick and I warned this site, along with WW, that it would be a wasted pick and he wasn't that good. I feel the same about Bosa, not to the same degree as Ghost, but I feel he will be a servicable starter and nothing more. EDIT: I do believe there are several eorthy players that should be drafted I'm the first this year for OSU. Ezekial Elliot Eli AApple Josh Perry I believe these three will be impact players in the NFL.
Yeah but look at our drafts, historically we've been a pretty shitty team in the draft. I'm sure your well aware of some of the dumbest picks we've made over the years. Hell, they have a video shaming our drafts because they've been so fucking bad. With that said... Is that OSU or Jets fault? Again, its not the school, its the player. If we are dumb enough to draft players just because of the school they go to, then we don't deserve to have a good roster. That does not mean there aren't quality players that come out of OSU or any other program for that matter.
This is so stupid. Devin Smith didn't even play a full 1st year. This guy has an enourmous amount of talent, the only thing he's been missing is the mental aspect which "CAN" be taught. (Physical talent cannot). He will come into his own.
I just wanted Dorial Green Beckham nothing against D Smith but he was just the better prospect said it then, saying it now. It was the pick I had the problem with the most because they preached BPA and to me Smith isn't in the class of DGB. Hopefully we can learn from this and hopefully Smith can salvage a comeback late next season, but Dorial is gonna be a monster down in Tennessee
I still think Smith has to get BIGGER. At least another 10-15lbs of muscle and in particular, upper body strength. He was too light to fight for position against the older more polished and larger CB's in the NFL. That's why you always saw him pinned to the sidelines or just outmuscled on a lot of plays. So, while Smith is recovering and rehabbing, he should also do a lot of lifting. When he leaves the weight room, head straight to the jugs machine. Then back to the weight room.
How can you judge any WR in less than 3 years? By then the Jests will have drafted a or developed a QB not named Fitz....who will need a guy that can stretch the field. Oh...and by the way...DGB sucks. Just sayin. 16 GP. 32 catches on 66 targets. Yeah he lit it up.
Devin Smith( Rookie Season) 10 GP, 9 catches on 28 targets Tommy Bohannon( Rookie Season)16 GP, 11 catches on 16 targets
Two issues. Smith had a freak accident in TC...fucking punctured lung fcol. The other...the Jets don't use TE's to run seam routes to draw the safties inside. Draw the safties down, or in amd in, and Smith will be the same monster he was tOSU. And using TBo as an example? He's well within your throwing range as a QB. So...by an objective measure TBo was a more productive pass catcher than DGB... There was our mistake. Here. Read and learn. http://www.westcoastoffense.com/bill walsh article 1.htm
I had a bad feeling for some reason about this pick from the get go. I'm not sure I can put the blame on Macc for it though. He missed training camp in what was essentially a freak accident when he broke his ribs which slowed his progress a lot. Now he's likely to miss training camp next season and probably start on the PUP list. I don't have a lot of faith in Smith doing anything noteworthy next season. It's such a shame that he didn't pan out this season. He had the potential to completely open up the field and in turn the run game.
You missed the point. Tommy is a FB(7th round) that has better hands than Devin Smith(2nd round). If Devin was a 7th rounder he would still not be as productive as Tommy. Devin is a bust because he was drafted in the 2nd round and sucks.
no one is a bust after a shortened rookie season battling injuries only a knee jerk 13 year old fan would have that take
It's an uphill battle for him at this point. Missing 2 training camps in a row is really awful for a young receiver.
Could be worse. He could be dogshit for years like Ted Ginn Jr and then just find a real QB who can get the ball to him.
Get back to is after learning, or at least watching football.... I hate the fact that he tends to be a body catcher.... But fcol this post is ridiculous
He's the Milliner of the offence.. Always hurt and not very good when healthy! Difference is Mac took Smith in the 2nd round and Idzik too Milliner at 9th overall
