No from day 1 of Rex's era the Jets always have 2 ways of losing:

    1) The game plan is completely terrible and they do not make the necessary in-game adjustments
    2) Inefficient offense leads to loss in ToP and the defense spends most of the game on the field.

The Jets would need players with marathon runner/soccer player stamina to overcome the offense's poor performance.

The Jets rarely lose games in which they play a great game and are merely outplayed. Since this is typical for Rex, I am not concerned right now.

Junc isn't wrong, the Jets have had a propensity to wear down late in games on final drives more than a great defense should.

Not all of those examples he gave are valid, but most are.

Here is some facts for you -

After making the game 10-6 Early in the second quarter, longest the offense held the ball for the defense was the 4 minute, -1 yard "drive".

The next highest was 2 and a half minutes! Six of them were around 1 minute or less. 6 1 minute drives! no wonder the defense was gassed. That's almost 3 quarters where the longest the offense has the ball at a time is for 4 minutes, and that's without gaining a yard!!

Its not all about turnovers, what is highlighted above is putting your defense in absolutely horrible situations all game. I could careless if they give up their scores after a halftime or whatever, they were stretched to the limit all game.

i wasnt aware the defense has gotten pushed around year in and year out.

in any event, i suspect getting someone named Darrelle Revis back may help.

it doens't matter how many yards you gain. are you saying a 4 minute break when you gain 50 yards is somehow more of a rest than a 4 minute break when you get -1 yard?

    that is beyond fucking stupid.

before the Steelers first TD, the Jets actually had run more plays than the Steelers -- 24 to 22, and only had 1 less minute of time of possession: 11 minutes to 12.

the defense wasn't gassed on the first two FG drives, and they weren't gassed when they proceeded to give up a 11 play, 5:40 minute drive, because they offense gave them 11 minutes of game time break.

they had more than enough rest.

and then they had 16 minutes of rest and still gave up a TD on their first 2nd half possession.

so your saying that a Jet WR not catching a ball between the first quarter until late in the 4th quarter and not sustaining a single drive doesn't affect the defense wearing down in the second half?

it appears you think teams play madden on sundays. it also appears you've never played football in your life, because even that would help you understand this simplest of concepts.

was the D great? No but they were also missing their best player and the best defensive player in football. But were there factors that attributed to them not being great? Absolutely.

It's not exactly black and white.

It was getting so frusterating watching our defensive players not be able to wrap Big Ben up and then watch him sneak away and complete a pass. I know Ben is huge and tough to bring down but we have to improve our tackling.

are you blind? I am talking about the first 20 points of the game.

clearly the offense couldn't stay on the field on the second half, and at that point the Steelers only scored 7 points. the first 20 was because the defense sucked.

perhaps you should read more slowly, or have your caregiver explain these things to you so you can actually address the facts being discussed and not embarrass yourself.

God forbid they give up 17 points against a good football team when they are "rested."

But as Turk mentions below, its not all black and white. The defense had to continually go out on the field after pure offensive ineptitude all day.. regardless of exactly when they gave up their drives isn't as big a deal as the fact that they were constantly having to go back in after the offense laid an egg.

and as for the 4 minute "drive" you are right - I must be beyond stupid. I thought field position mattered in football games, but I guess not...

Why does it seem like JetBlue is the only one that actually watched the game?

I swear some people just don't know football. From the very beginning, Pitt was driving up and down the field on our defense. Missed tackles, broken tackles, poor coverage on 3rd down. Stop trying to blame the offense. Both the offense and defense were both independently bad yesterday. The defense was bad because the defense was bad, and the offense was bad because the offense was bad.

i love when people that can't put the pieces of an entire game together, claim that other people don't know football.

    its so comical.

because you are the one claiming they only gave up points because they were tired due to the offense not getting them rest. clearly that isn't the case when they gave up the majority of their points when they were rested.

what part of your own argument do you not grasp?

and they only gave up 7 points at that point. your argument is that it was the offense's fault that the defense gave up points because they were tired, which isn't the case.

how do you not understand that the steelers went from attacking offense to wear down move the chain offense leading to less points in an attempt to A) Control the Clock and B) wear down the defense.

it's reallly really realllllllllllllly not that hard to get

So your saying that the defense which couldn't get off the field at any point during the game whether it be by penalty or by missing tackles/sacks/interceptions on 3rd down is the offenses fault? It was a complete collapse defensively and offensively.

The offense AND defense both contributed to the loss. To blame one unit or the other is silly. Our tackling was abysmal. How many times did we had 2-3 guys on Redman and he still broke free? It happened on the late touchdown. Our offense started out good, but it seems like Sanchez wasn't same after that helmet to helmet hit. His accuracy and everything went down hill. Holmes had multiple drops and all in all Steelers had very good secondary coverage. I don't remember too many uncontested throws. Holmes has to make most of those plays.

You are conveniently ignoring facts, and you keep saying the same thing over and over despite the facts.

The offense had 1 possession in the 1st quarter, to which they scored on a 90 yard TD drive. Our defense allowed Pitt to hold the ball for 9 minutes in the 1st quarter. That had nothing to do with the offense. That was the first indication there that the defense was ass that day. They didn't all of a sudden get their shit together at any point in the game to blame the offense for their shortcomings.

Right off the bat, that's two scoring drives that's taken up over 9 minutes of a quarter.

Our offense gets the ball to start the 2nd quarter and goes on a FG drive of 5 minutes. Ample enough time for the defense to get rest. Pitt goes 3 and out, Jets go 3 and out. Defense RESTED.

Then Pitt proceeds to go on a 80 yard TD drive against a rested defense.

Again, at what point did the Jets' defense get their shit together to blame the offense for their shortcomings?

Steelers came out in the 2nd half against a rested defense and then went on a 60 yard TD drive. That's 20 points they have now scored against a rested defense.

Your argument is baseless and is not supported for any fact. Anyone who saw the game should have seen Pitt going up and down the field against our rested defense at will, right from the start.

At no point did our defense get their shit together long enough to lay blame on the offense for them not getting stops. We couldn't stop their run, we couldn't stop Big Ben, we couldn't tackle. We couldn't stop them on 3rd down. We couldn't do anything of those things on defense despite being rested.

When the opposing team comes out and takes up 10 minutes of the game clock in the 1st quarter alone, you know something is wrong with your defense.

which has nothing to do with the fact that they gave up 20 points when they had rest.

nobody is saying the defense didn't wear down at the end of the game because the offense couldn't stay on the field. that is irrelevant to your claim that the defense gave up points because they were tired. they gave up 20 out of 27 points when they had rest, so clearly being tired wasn't the reason why they gave up so many points.

The one thing I will say about the rest is that the cumulative effect of being on the field clearly took its toll on stopping the running game.

They couldn't run the ball all game against us, then late on that final drive, Dwyer and Redman were breaking 1-3 tackles every run. That's not coincidence, that's a worn out defense. The missed sacks, some of that can be chalked up to this, but most of it is just poor angles and Ben's pocket presence and size.

The Steelers moved the ball fairly well all game, but it was mostly through the air. Only on the final drive did tackling become a major issue. Ben played great, his receivers made plays for him, and our pass rush kept whiffing. It wasn't non-existent as some say, we just struggled to bring him down.

no, comical is your trying to attribute the the scores on Pittsburgh's first five possessions to how the Jets played after those scores were already made.

please explain how the Jets offense being shitty for the last 24 minutes of the 3rd quarter and on somehow contributed to the Steelers scoring in the first 36 minutes of the game.

    try it.
