And if I remember right, Revis' point was that the players signing above and below him both had 5-year deals. I read something this weekend that said the tradeoff was a cancellation option after the fourth year, with the Jets retaining the rights to buy years five and six back for some healthy guaranteed amount.

Excellent idea. We all know what a great investment they are. This is better than the usual deferred payment since they're a cinch to go up in value.

His agent should be all over this.

Revis holding out is on him not the team or the fans (for saying how great he is). His agent in a piece of garbage and so is he for following his lead and holding out twice. He got the contract he wanted and now does not want to live up to it. That is classless!

Ellis-92s quote never seemed more relevant.

He should be making more than 1 million a yr based on market value. However thats what his contract pays. He could be injured at anytime while he is on the field and so it makes sense for Revis to try to get paid what his value is. At the same time he has a contract that he is supposed to live up to. You would think that the club would have addressed this issue previously w/him but apparently they could not agree on a new K.

So hopefully they get this ironed out. I am guessing he will not hold out all TC. But if he does we will have to move on w/o Revis.

Teams have the right to cut players to avoid paying them any day of the week. I'll never throw that argument back at a player.

Forgive me if this has been discussed in this thread, though I did not see it discussed.

Just wondering what influence, if any, HBO Hard Knocks has on this. We read last week that HBO approached Revis about filming him all the time IF he holds out. Did he agree to it? if so, will he be paid? Is it better for him to hold out if for no other reason, the HBO money or more importantly, the exposure he gets that puts even more pressure on the Jets? The "Revis show" sidebar adds drama to the episodes.

I doubt Hard Knocks has anything to do with the holdout. They're asking him to film because the holdout is a great story line and it will add viewers and make the show more exciting. No one is holding out because HBO wants to put a camera in their house 24/7.

Don't know if this has been posted, but Bart Scott just had a very interesting comment about Revis:

@TheJetsStream:Bart Scott: "I can't envision playing this season with Darrelle Revis.

Well not all contracts are the same. But I agree w/you generally. The fact is that the Jets have not cut Revis, his contract is still in force and he is still obliged to honor it. He is choosing not to do so because he wants to be paid more money than he agreed to be paid. The Jets do have an enforceable written contract that Revis signed. He should live up to his committment. But at the same time, the Jets should be willing to re-negotiate his deal b/c he has quickly become one of the best players in the NFL.

My guess is that this will all be worked out and we will get to watch it on Hard Knocks. The Hard Knocks factor should not be minimized, Revis wants that exposure.

Bart Scott should turn off his twitter and shut his pie hole. We don't need Bart Scott throwing gasoline on the fire.

Scott didn't say that on twitter. He was being quoted incorrectly.
