Also Greene wouldn't do that, McKnight and LT are right behind him. We would just go tell him to pack his bags. Runningbacks imo are so easy to replace. A good O line is more important than the RB. If you have an amazing O line, hell one of us could put up TJ's numbers.

So Basically Revis is trying to get as much as he can, every last million. This whole problem should end soon. He's been just basically milking the Jets for more money on the proposed contract everyday.
* I agree 100 %, letting Revis do this and get what he wants is terrible for the team, Sanchez would not have to wait to the end of his contract to want more, he can do exactly what Revis did and so can other players, thats why Contracts these days are totally BS. In my opinion these players are all more important to the Jets than Revis, Sanchez, Green, Mangold and Keller, on defense Ill take Jenkins, Ellis, Scott and Harris over Revis also.
Everybody knows that except maybe Al Davis and Dan Snyder. No, of course not. Revis is not worth losing those guys. We had Revis on our team last season and we lost 7 games. Its not as if having Revis on your team guarantees you anything. He is a great football player. But he is one CB. He is not the team. If he is seriously refusing to budge off of 16M, then I would seriously tell him that we are willing to be very reasonable with him and that we want him on our team, but that we will not be reaching an agreement with him at that price. And then let him decide if he wants to negotiate or not. If he doesn't - thats too bad, but we can then know that there was nothing to do, except move on as a team.
Yea it is dominoes but thats just how the NFL works. In a couple years the latest Rookie Class will be bitching for money and their won't be money for the older players. Its just how it works. And most of the positions can be replaced in the draft so players that don't take the smaller contract will just get the boot. Cornerback is more interesting tho cuz you can't exactly just draft a shutdown CB.
It seems like we are poised for this whole Jet family meeting with Revis to go down on Hard Knocks, and it will probably be some amazing television as the two sides finally agree and the whole room goes nuts.
On the bright side at least we know that Rex won't be one of those coaches that thinks he can be a GM and coach ala Holmgren.
Yesterday I posted about the possibility of a trade happening, and the more I think about it, the more likely it is seeming. As others have pointed out, this is a mess for the team. We have a lot of talented players that need new contracts. If the FO gives in and hands Revis a huge payday, it will be bad for a few different reasons, which people have already outlined. If the Jets trade Revis, they can use that money to sign Harris and Mangold, and take care of a few others as well. It's basic Addition by Subtraction. Yes, the loss of Revis would be a negative, but signing him to a cap-killing deal that forced us to part ways with other players hurts us even more, IMO. What Revis wants is just too much money for a CB, even one as good as he is. A deal like that will hurt the team more than it will help it. And if I had to choose between Mangold or Revis, I'd take Mangold. To me, he's more important to the team than Revis is. Please don't come back with "He won't get traded, moron" nonsense. Nobody on this team is untouchable. Mike T will always do what he feels is best for the team, and if he feels it's better to part ways with Revis and use the money elsewhere, that is exactly what he'll do, regardless of his public announcement of Revis not going anywhere. If I had my way, I'd like to see him signed. I want him to be paid well, and to be a Jet for life, but not to the overall detriment to the team.. I sure would hate to see him go.
I don't follow you at all. The only reason you can't find out what guaranteed component the Jets would be offering is because the Jets are insisting on a two (or more) tiered negotiation process. If you were a contractor and you were going to build a house and the owner said "lets agree on price first and then we can discuss how much you get up front for materials, how much you get on completion, and how much is a success fee for early completion" you'd tell the guy to screw off; the total amount you're willing to accept would depend on the other three factors.

I am guessing that the players will side with Darelle in terms of getting paid and will side with Rex in terms of wanting him to get his deal done and get ready to play football. be great to settle the thing right at the meeting w/Tannenbaum. Rex: Ok Darelle you are at 16 and Mike you are at 12. Darelle are you willing to move to 15 if Mike moves to 13? Mike are you willing to move to 13 if Darelle moves to 15? Rex: Cut the bullshit and lets agree on 14 for 8. Okay? Rex: How does 30 Guaranteed sound? He'd have this thing done in an hour.
Apparently this is how Tanny does business, and has no problem doing it with other agents on a regular basis. So I'd say Tanny's prior experience negotiating NFL contracts is probably more valid than your contractor analogy.
To make the contract look bigger to fans. There's almost no chance he plays out the end of a long contract like that, but having a big contract number helps everybody because the agent can brag about getting a giant contract, the player gets to pretend they're the highest paid player, and the team gets to say how committed they are to the future of the team, blah blah blah.
