Extended passages from the book Collision Low Crossers have already been posted that spell out exactly how and when Cro clashed with coaches. I'll do a search in a minute. Lol $3 million with $1 million guaranteed is exactly what you sign a player for to be a rotation CB. That kind of deal means you might start, but there's a good chance you'll share time or get beat out/cut for a rookie CB.
Tramon Williams! thats the guy I've been thinking a lot about lately. He fits Idzik like a glove. he's a reliable older player, (32 next year) so he won't be looking for a longer more expensive deal, but he's still capable of playing at an acceptable level. theres no injury history with 'em as far as I can see and he's played almost all of his games. He's the kind of vet that could benefit Dexter and Dee Dee by playing mentor. thats a good two year signing, JI's strategy fell on deaf ears last year but could work out a lot better with Williams.
Conversely theres Byron maxwell, a man who i think would work out the same way as last years CB free agents, he'll be looking at a huge deal for the right to lock up the CB position of his new team. Seattle's not keeping him, they gotta pay Wilson and leave themselves with a bit of room, and they've already invested record highs into the core of the legion of boom as it is. so we can bet he WILL be on the market. HE would be THE pick up if JI wanted to lock up a starting corner for years and had no faith in McDougle's ability to be a starter anytime soon, whereas a Williams would be a better signing if he wants to groom his third rounder. although one wonders Maxwell he can play man consistently, because, and correct me if Im wrong, don't the seahawks predominately use zone schemes? that could impact our desire to go after him, but I'm sure he would do fine. I'm really pissed we didn't get to see Dex playing this year, that would've helped us determine the best course of action WAY better. As is we're not sure of anything other than the fact that we need another starting corner. we don't need to shoot for value, we can pay a premium price IF we want to, but how willing is JI after last year? If he can find a better deal with Williams than Maxwell will he shoot for the former?
The Seahawks primarily play a 4-3 man cover 1 scheme, but because Richard Sherman is so dominant 1-on-1, whoever is playing the other corner position tends to get a lot of help from the FS Earl Thomas. Generally Byron Maxwell is in a man coverage role though.
The thing is that I think Maxwell is a quality player who gets a lot more credit than he should because of who he plays with. I think Maxwell is bound to get paid more than he's worth.
$3mill is still more then what most other teams give for "non starter CBS". Heck, Rodgers Cromartie salary this year was less then what they ended up Patterson for in 2014. Bottom line is though, you need to overpay some in free agency or you will be stuck at the bottom of the barrel players and in last place just like our beloved Jets are.
The bottom line on these salaries is guaranteed money not salary per season. The way they're constructed can give a guy huge money one year and next to nothing the following season. Not sure about DRC's deal but he's making a lot more than Patterson. You're right you do overpay sometimes but not often. And what you're seeing since the new deal with the union not giving out the exorbitant rookie deals and theoretically giving more of that money to veterans is how many of these guys are getting cut. The teams are going with younger guys cause they are cheaper.
Thats the reality, until more GM's share the same sentiment as Idzik or overpriced CB's are increasingly found to not be worth it in the end that bubble won't burst, and B's will be paid like A's. so the debate rages on, do we include ourselves in that rush this time or take our own path and hope for better results? I guess Williams gives us the better shot at compromising, assuming he isn't retained by GB. his only catch is his age, which is what will make him affordable in the first place.
Don't be a tool, DRC's salary is only low to fit the cap constraints, it more than quadruples next year and gets even higher the year after that, and that doesn't even include the prorated bonus. If you're going to use an example be smart about it. DRC has a backloaded multiyear deal, it's not remotely comparable to Patterson's contract. The fact that you even tried to use that as an example just proves you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
The simple answer to this would have been to bring Cro back for another year,he is playing at a pro bowl level again down in Arizona .But he also isn't covering num 1 WRs Peterson is
Its just one example of many of where Idzik could of spent money and decided to go cheap and left this team in shambles. I'm still waiting for you to show me other contracts that are 3mill or over per year for guys that arent starters. Please get back to me whenever you get off Idziks shlong. That may take awhile but i'll be waiting.
The salaries and how they are constructed are besides the point. The point is you need to spend some money to be competitive or you're going to be a bottom feeder like the team is this year. No one is saying Idzik should of spent the entire salary cap but to leave this team in shambles with so many holes is criminal. He could of easily picked up 2 more high quality starters and this team has a much different look this year. The team is only a few players away from being really close to at least contending in the division but those obvious holes are to much to overcome right now.
Brandon Browner Kyle Arrington Jerraud Powers Corey Graham Walter Thurmond That doesn't include first round picks who aren't starting yet, or former first round picks who got benched but are still playing on rookie contracts.
I know you're kind of joking but Cro never gave up 200+ yards to the guy he was covering at any point last year
He was injured he made the pro bowl the year before, you have to look at the whole body of work when judging someone not just one year
Sorry but the salaries and how they're constructed counts. You can't say because DRC's contract is back loaded he's not getting a huge salary. As for Idzik underspending and losing out on a few starters. What if they got injured. Then you're still blaming him for bringing in bottom feeders to replace starters. I mean Decker and Milliner were injured so won't their replacements be players not as good as they are. But while I don't agree you have a point. I just don't think he went into 2014 unprepared or that his plan was flawed. As for last Sunday it's like listening to the Republican right on Fox News blame everything on Obama. If a kid walking across the street gets hit by a car they blame him even though they're the ones who cut funds for traffic lights. That L is solely on Rex Ryan and his players.
