While I don't think he really had his "fair shot", at least not one that can give a great evaluation, he had some moments and some rookie mistakes.

The one thing that did concern me was that seemingly he REGRESSED throughout the season. His "happy feet" and decision making got worse, but that could partly be due to all the poundings.

Some of you are arguing for Brett Ratliff based on his great preseason numbers:

    2008 32 47 68.1 499 10.6 4 1

But look at what Clemens did the year before in preseason:

    2007 30 41 73.2 364 8.9 4 2

Pretty much the same. It wasn't until the real games started that the complex
schemes began and the first string guys were playing.

Now I like Ratliff and think he's got a lot of talent. It's been fun watching him develop. It's just a big step for any player from preseason star to real season starter.

Based on us having a crushing D (wink, wink) we will only need a QB that can manage the game since all we will need is 7-10 pts per game which certainly KC or for that matter any QB should be able to produce

He had his shot??? I love when people whine about how we let go of players that end up playing well on other teams. Clemens DID NOT, I REPEAT DID NOT HAVE A LEGITIMATE CHANCE to be our starting QB. If anyone here thinks that you can start a young QB behind a terrible O-line, Justin McCareins as (a sad excuse for) a starting WR with equally as bad defense, TO SAVE THE SEASON, needs their head examined. Clemens was buried under the crap that was 2007 and he didn't deserve it.

Then Clemens lost out in training camp last year to Pennington, which also made people look down upon him. I didn't care about that. Pennington is a warrior when it comes to no contact, patty-cake, redshirt practices. Clemens has a great arm, he has touch on his passes and is mobile, which is a great combination since seeing Favre scramble this year would make me squirm. So what if he didn't look cool in the pocket? I wouldn't look cool in the pocket either if two of my offensive line men were revolving doors. Clemens is the most underrated Jet on the roster (maybe besides Clowney).

    Clemens should get another shot.

    Good read.

And RaiderJoe, as predicted is back.

After another great season of the Raiders "unleashing hell" in the NFL.

This article is Fantastic and sums up everything. Clemens had games where his one and two receivers were Wallace Wright and Brad Smith. Tom Jones did nothing behind that line and the guys protecting him are no longer in Football. Clemens had the Ravens backpeddling when he started and for some insane reason was not given the chance to stay in. Mangini should have left him in from that moment.

I think your right. I think a good open battle in TC would give us a better idea how far each has progressed, but Ratliff seems to have that "sense" for the game and more upside than Clemens. We have a good O-Line, a good running game and being both these guys know our system, now is the best time to give them a shot. In all fairness, Clemens was thrown in a terrible spot in 2007, but in TC did not progress very much, if at all. Ratliff hasn't got the "real" time like Clemens, but he progressed well through TC and made the best of his chance when he got it. And these 2 combined won't cost us even 1/2 of 13m.

When I go watch the games with my brother he often says the same thing, and you know what, he may not be wrong.

If they don't bring Favre back, I would not cry if Clemens got a chance again.

lets not forget that Cutler and Clemens were on the Broncos radar, had the Broncos not been able to get Cutler they were drafting Clemens it just worked that Cutler was still on the board when the Broncos came up.... I say give him a legitimate chance with a good line and good running game.

Yeah, that kind of stuff always works out. Like when we had Brett Favre on our radar, but took Browning Nagle once Brett got drafted one spot ahead of us.

Clemens was 3-4 for a really shitty team. And they could've won that Redskin game. That line sucked...Will Montgomery I'm pretty sure cooked me the awful pizza i just shit out from the seton hall buffet.

Hahahahaha he's right Free. Cutler didn't fall to them they dealt the 15th and 68th picks in that years draft and moved up.

Yes that's true but I think they did that precisely because they thought they otherwise would not have Cutler fall to them, of course, and that if they could not have put that deal together, I seem to recall some talk that Denver would go for Clemens as Plan B.

I also specifically call Jaws talking up Clemens as the best Qb pick in that draft. And Jaws is usually on the money.

    Maybe not that time? Heh.

I don't think the problem with KC so much is how he performed in '07 with a crappy OL and injured WR's, as much as how awful he looked in TC in '08. I think Mangini had every intention of handing him the reins, but he simply could not outperform Chad. At every opportunity, he looked worse. He did sem to have regressed. But, nevertheless, an open competition between him and Ratliffe next TC could only help.

There are Hall Of Fame Qb's with similar first year stats to Clemens who had a right tackle and Guard who are no longer in Football.
