The guy never improved at reading defenses. I think he should get a shot, but he should go into training camp in an open competition with Ratliff. In the meanwhile, the Jets need to bring in a veteran for insurance.
Start the midget at QB and it will be the Jets picking number 1. With the first pick in 2010 draft the new York Jets select QB BRadford. At least you might get that franchise QB. Drink enough cases of your favorite adult beverage, and K Clemens starts to look more like he can be the answer.
W/ no OL and no running game in 2007 Clemens still went 3-5 which is a 38% win %, since 2003 the Raiders franchise has a 25% win percentage.
One way or another , we will have a veteran on the roster and Clemens and the lot will play it out during training camps and the preseason. Clemens did show he has a good arm and can make the throws needed within this offense. His first couple of starts he made some real good throw and others were made under pressure. Thats the point Clemens didint look very good under pressure and thats what a young QB goes through and the opposing teams know it. The baltimore game would have been an amzaing confidense booster for him , but it didint go down the way he would have hoped. I think Clemens could hold the fort and not blow games , but will he ever be a top 15 QB ....Im not sure?
How in the world is this troll still posting here? He Hijacks every thread he's in and offers nothhing positive to the board.
The answer is simple. KC will get his shot and so should Ratliff and Ainge. It is called an open training camp competition. KC did not do so well last year. My guess is that he won't be good this year either. There is something lacking with that kid and I am not certain what it is. If he can prove that to be wrong in camp then he should get the job. If he doesn't he shouldn't.
It's not that simple at all. Let's see who they trade for or draft first. I also think open competitions are the worst thing a team can do and should only be reserved for coaches who haven't a clue like Manmoron. What it does is ensure that your starting QB plays 1/2 to 2/3 of the entire camp and preseason with the 2nd or 3rd string.
I always liked Clemens and thought he did an OK job as a young QB with a horrendous OL. I liked his arm strength and mobility in the pocket. And the kid took the team to several wins (which Chad couldn't do). Clemens should have even had another win or two if our WR didn't drop perfect passes. So I'm not too upset about going into training camp with Clemens and Ratliff in a battle for the starting spot. Competition is a good and healthy thing to get the best out of players. And both guys have watched on the sidelines and should be ready to play by now. It takes young QB a while to adjust to the game and reading defenses. But those two should be ready by now. And I'd much prefer a player that knows our system and that we've developed rather than some FA off of the scrap heap. Not taking a QB in the draft means we can load up with a defensive star on our first pick. That should help the team a great deal immediately. And, if Clemens or Ratliff does poorly, we can always take a QB in what promises to be a good QB draft class of 2010. So the Jets could have a strong D and a promising young QB at the same time. That's a win-win situation.
Yeah, 2010 is going to be an insane draft with the WR and QB prospects. I would do whatever it takes this year to get extra picks in the first two rounds next year if I were a GM on a team that needed those positions. Cough cough, Jets, cough cough.
...and Ratliff will win the job going away. Either you can see IT or you can't. Those of us who DO, understand that there's already enough evidence to suggest who's the better prospect. One has a sense of the game, and the pocket and his team, the other doesn't. Whether Ratliff can beat out the Grade B vet they bring in (Leftwich?), at the start of the season, I don't know, but I suspect that Ratliff will be the starter and you'll all be very excited about the idea.
A more colorful commentary than I would have provided, but i agree. I can't take any more of Favre. Give Clemens another shot alongside Ratliff and bring in a veteran backup for now.
I have to agree, I don't think it will even be close and I'm not sure that Ryan wouldn't name Ratliff the starter without a competition at all. If it comes down to those 3 I suspect he will.
Ratliff has promise, no question. But that's why we have competition at TC. I still think it's Clemens' to lose.
You ever heard of Drew Brees? That link should remind you. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/recap;_ylt=AgojSmiImHl6Ext_53sMFxz.uLYF?gid=20041031024
I have to agree with Raiderjoe there ^^^ but I also don't think there is any chance in hell that Clemens becomes the starting QB this year or ever. He had his shot no matter what anybody may think.
This thread reminds me of a few years ago when there were a bunch of The Case for [insert Player name here] threads, and TomShane started a thread titled The Case of Herpes, and a picture of this horrible rotting herpes mouth was the OP, and Petrozza perma-banned him.
How about a friendly bet? If Clemens is the starter week one I win, if its Ratliff you win. Loser has to display the avatar of the winner's choice for one month.
