Don't worry about it mate. This team has the NAME Browns, but they aren't the real Browns. The REAL Browns moved to Baltimore. This is really an expansion team, and ONLY share the name with those old storied Browns teams. There was no football team in Cleveland for I think about two years. Some people are...well, jerks. He should have noticed you were an Aussie if he had a clue. No worries.
I got contacted last night by a Jets message board, wanting to pair up and trade some barbs this week. I turned them down, until at least mid-week, because I didn't think any of us were up to it after our 15th loss in the last 22 games. I sure as hell couldn't look any oposing teams fan in the face right now and talk trash about this mess of a team ... unless, of course, it was a Steeler fan and then I'd tell'em what I've been telling them all year and that is that we are gonna sweep them this season :jets:
WHAT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????? Are you kidding me? The reason I posted all that stuff on the Browns is because the guy is Australian. He asked a legitimate question and I gave him a brief, but concise, history of the Browns. I did it as a courtesy to him as I figured he probably was unaware of the team's history, just as I am unaware of the history of Aussie Rules Football teams. Also, I noted how the original Browns moved to Baltimore. Sheesh.
OK, OK.... sorry! It came across as a little condesending to me, hence his defensive reply. No harm, no foul, OK? I was looking at that Browns board.... man, are they down on that team. I'm not sure the boo birds won't show up very early if we can get off to a good start. That would negate any home field advantage.... kick em when they're down.
No problem. I certainly didn't intend to sound condescending at all when I posted that info on the Browns. I truly was trying to let the guy know that the Browns are an important team to the league. From his perspective I understood his query. For someone new to the NFL the Browns are pretty boring what with their uniforms and their play on the field.
Don't forget about the '85 Weejk 16 win that got us into the playoffs. Remember that Kurt sohn TD where he ripped the ball from the defender on a would be INT?
Completely disagree. Our team has been showing alot of heart, effort and emotion. What they lack is talent and knowledge of the new system. I also don't think that the D is lazy, though I will agree that we've had problems tackling.
I too am more worried about this game than it seems most folks around here are. Will be interesting to see how Mangini has these guys playing with a less than stellar opponent and some time off around the corner. Hate to lose this one....
I was at the game in 2004 and will be there this weekend. Hopefully the game is a little more exciting this year. There was absolutely nothing to cheer for until the end of the game when McCairens scored the TD. I guess the two missed field goals by Dawson were pretty exciting.
Wasn't Quincy Carter our QB that day...it was one of those classic super conservative Herm efforts that we were lucky to win. 10-7. Then we went into Arizona and played another snoozer, 13-3 in front of like 20,000 people.
I've been reading this Browns board and found some interesting posts: Then some other more positive guy pointed out the teams we beat and the decent teams the Browns lost to. Then there was this on another thread:
Yeah, Lamont Jordan had a good game againt the Browns that day and really helped with the win. I remember being so mad at FOX with the Cardinals game because they barely showed the hot Arizona cheerleaders.
Yep, Q was the QB for that game. 17 punts between the two teams that day. If not for the Jets victory I might have tried to kill myself.
I was talking about games in Cleveland but yes, I remember that game, 37-10 great game. And to think a week later they laid such an egg against NE....I always thought the 1985 was Super Bowl material and just played a bad wild card game......
Yea definitely, the Patriots were one of the worst super bowl teams ever in 1985, and the Dolphins were definitely beatable that year as well. If only things broke right for us....sure we would've lost to Chicago in the Super Bowl but it wouldn't have been by a trillion points.
I'm sure you would have liked it better if they weren't conservative w/ Quincy and he threw 3 INts and we lost.
They certainly were one of the worst teams to ever play in a SB. However, they did win three road games in the playoffs, which is quite impressive.
