I'm pretty sure any trade with us will have some poison pill clause that requires us giving up the next 5 first round picks to the packers if we trade him back to a division rival. They'd be stupid to not insist on that clause.

Is this 3rd or 4th business something that Green heard from a source, or is it pure speculation on his part? Based on what we have to read here, it sounds like speculation to me. There are so many rumors and reports coming out on this whole Favre thing I don't know WTF to believe anymore.

If you can get Favre for a 4th round pick it would be irresponsible to not do it.

Pennington......GB will need a backup, and if we cut Pennington, He could wind up in minnesota...I don't think GB wants that either.

That hardly sounds legal so I wouldn't count on it.

The truth, however, is that no team would ever trade with the Jets again if we were to do something as underhanded and despicable as that.

That's a totally different scenario and has nothing to do withing trading him to another team.

i would give them a 2nd rd pick and a player, or more picks like a 4th or so, but there is no way i would give up a 1st for a guy who might play 1 or 2 years

It wouldn't be the first time the Jets organization did something underhanded.

from a post I wrote in October-

Your idea makes sense, except for the part that they will count towards $20 million of the cap alone. Can't logically do that with Clemens on the roster.

You would have to cut Chad to make Favre's contract work under the cap.

Also...Chad has no years left in the tank...he has been done for years now. Kellen is the future and Brett gives the Jets the best chance to win in 2008.

What Jil said, give them mid-round picks for every year Favre plays for us.

Is Tampa out of the mix now?

GM Allen Says Team Hasn't Contacted Favre
By ROY CUMMINGS | The Tampa Tribune

    Published: July 27, 2008

    Updated:

LAKE BUENA VISTA - If the Bucs really do have an interest in trading for disgruntled Packers quarterback Brett Favre, they have yet to tell Favre about it.

Amid reports claiming the Bucs and Jets were granted permission to speak directly to Favre, Bucs general manager Bruce Allen said Saturday he has yet to take advantage of such an opportunity.

"I have not talked to Favre and we have not requested an opportunity to speak to him," Allen told the Tribune between training camp workouts at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.

Jets should offer something conditional like a guaranteed 3rd round pick that becomes a 2nd if Favre makes the Pro Bowl and becomes a 1st if the Jets win the Super Bowl this year with him at QB.

I have nothing to add, but I saw over 500 replies here, so i just wanted to be in the thread.

Maybe if they get Favre, I'll start to going to TC.

I am bored at the prospect of writing another series of TC reports on Clemens vs CP.

You can write about Ratliff winning the job after Clemens and Chad convince the coaching staff that neither is capable of starting.

I like ratliff from watching him in tc last year. Both Thunderbird and I both liked him when he got extra reps the day we were there.

Favre Doesn't Want to Play for Jets

This is on the ESPN website in an article posted by Chris Mortenson:

"Favre is open to a trade but not just to the New York Jets or Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "

Favre does not want to play here. Actually, if you read the article, he clearly wants to play for the Vikings. When you sum it all up, Favre is a self absorbed, spoiled ass. I just hope that this statement that he doesn't want to play here becomes clearer and is repeated as the next few days unfold. Then we can put this ridiculous idea of bringing in a retired 39 year old QB to bed and move on, just like the Packers want to do.
