I'm beginning to wonder just how harmful this extended GM search, and the limitation put on the newcomer by Woody, actually is to what's left of the Jets Brand. You have to think, privately, that no one really wants any parts of the uncertainty that is the New York Jets football organization. Its almost as if being GM of the New York Jets really isn't at all attractive even if there's 32 total positions of which only several are available at any given time. With all the negatives surrounding this team, you never hear anything positive anymore. Blame the media or blame the Jets but it really doesn't matter. The brand is almost toxic in nature and as someone pointed out, Woody's heavy handedness regarding Rex is only hurting the franchise even more as no one wants to sign on and not only be GM in name only, but have to share power with a "subordinate" that has the unequivocal backing of the Owner. That people interview for this job is one thing. That people move on very quickly to other interviews speaks volumes as to just how unattractive this franchise has become. If I were looking for a new job and a new career, the New York Jets would not be on my radar. Not until there's a siezmic change in outlook and SOP and that can only come from Woody Johnson having a epiphany of sorts.
Dead on, Woody has damaged us so much. I'm starting to think about finding another secondary team to start rooting for. This offseason is going to set us back a decade.
Are the Browns and the Kansas City Chiefs hurting their brand because they don't have a GM by now too? They're not sharing power. The GM will have full authority to do what is needed next year. Do you honestly think that if Rex goes 2-14, the new GM won't fire him? Woody obviously didn't mean that, but rather the fact that if Rex goes 11-5 and somehow misses the playoffs, he wouldn't (and shouldn't) be fired. Who has moved on 'very quickly' that we know of to interview for this other job? Only person we've interviewed who HAS another GM job is Caldwell. And he got interviewed by the Jags three, count them, three times. Not to mention he apparently is interested in hiring our old OC as their head coach. Gamble: No job. Ross: No job Cohen: No job. Gaine: No job. Angelo: No job. Khan: No job. Why do you insist that Woody is an idiot. Idiots don't own a multi million dollar football organization and guide them to an overall winning record in his tenure.
Idiots born with a billion dollars can own anything they want. The NFL did us no favors when they approved Woody Johnson to buy the franchise. The Jets would have been better off if Woody Johnson was a NASCAR fan instead. Regarding what is said vs. what is meant, I'm a bit tired of the ambiguity. Say what you mean and mean what you say or keep your mouth shut. Rex said he wanted a Ground and Pound attack. Now he says that was only because Sanchez and the driftwood Tannenbaum brought sucked? Bullshit. Rex Ryan wanted the ground and pound and since the Flintstone offense didn't work, now he's piling on the caveats. The only person he needed to convince of that was Woody Johnson, his BFF and his BOSS. Regarding Caldwell, his new boss insisted he interview again with the Jets. Evidently, Caldwell really didn't WANT TO. Why do you think that was the case? Look, this franchise is in the worst shape since the Kotite era from a structural pov. Organizationally, its a basketcase. Capwise, give it a handicap sticker and a really good parkingspace. Now I'm not ruling out that there may be someone out there that would want to take on the GM job which would be akin to climbing Mt. Everest with iceskates. There are brave souls out there that would I'm sure.
we were much better off with Leon Hess as the owner, Dick Steinberg as the GM and Rich Kotite as the head coach.... when even he said we were the "horses asses" of the NFL yep, SOJFs Woody Johnson has really, really messed things up since those grand old days
Homers are so predictable.. No one even mentioned Leon Hess except YOU. Now try to keep up or find another thread to post in. The jist here is that Woody Johnson with his keen football acumen, has done this franchise no favors with his hamhanded attempt at keeping his BFF at the helm. There's no way his saddleling any new incoming GM with Rex isn't a factor. The New York Jets GM position simply isn't as attractive as you homers want to think. Bad Cap, Bad Roster, Piss Poor Media relationship, Restive Fanbase and a coach that, for lack of a better term to use, is eccentric in his off the field antice and you get a picture of a dysfunctional franchise from the top down. The Brand sucks. Homers won't ever admit to that but the rest of us "SOJF's" see it. FWIW, we SOJF's have seen so much shit out of this franchise that we simply won't put up with it anymore and won't keep quiet about either.
Really. You're older than me by quite a bit. I've looked at the Jets records before my time. You really want to go back to those days? Rich Kottie had four wins in two seasons. The owner practically was jizzing to get him after he was fired from the Eagles. We're having a bad year, but I will be very surprised if we have many years like this in the future. Caldwell didn't want to interview with the Jets because he already had two interviews with the Jags before us. You usually don't give people second interviews unless there is a mutual interest. You must have more experience than me in that regards. Well, when you talk with the media, there is a such thing as ambguity. You wanted him to say 'Sanchez sucks SOOOOO bad that we tried to win games by taking the ball out of his hands'? No. That is unprofessional, and you will be crucified. Reading between the lines shouldn't be hard. You're so negative. Be a little more positive about the direction.
the "brand" is at it's highest value since 1969, my friend with the best 15 years ever in franchise history having just occurred in 1997-2012 and I've been a Jets fan since 1960 so, yes, I've seen all of the same crap you talk about and MORE. I've seen ALL of Charlie Winner, Lou Holtz, Joe Walton, Bruce Coslet, Rich Kotite, Herm and Mangini I've seen ALL of Mike Hickey, Al Ward, Jim Kensil, Steve Gutman, Dick Steinberg What I see now under Woody Johnson is a team with an excellent head coach in Rex Ryan and a team taking the right approach to bringing in what will hopefully be an excellent GM Devalued brand??? the prior owners of the Jets had us playing in the Polo Grounds and as a second class citizen to the frigging Mets in Shea Stadium, then as a second class citizen to the freaking Giants in their dump with big blue Giants signs on the outside Johnson tried to move the team back to NYC until Cablevision bribed that crook Silver to veto it and finally gave us equal ownership in the Jets own home for the first time ever. I'll take the current brand over the mess the previous owners made of this franchise If that makes me a "homer" so be it. I'll never apologize to anybody for rooting for the Jets and being a passionate fan of the team
the alternative to Mr Johnson's bid for ownership were those slimebag Dolans of Cablevision. Thank you NFL owners for saving us from that Titanic disaster
Hopefully, Woody takes a bath and is forced to sell the team. A new owner a new HC and a new QB would be just what this team needs.
I've seen this movie before. It was at the end of the Kotite era and Leon Hess did this franchise the biggest favor he could at the time: He moved heaven and earth, cleaned house, and brought in Bill Parcells to get shit straight. Parcells set things right. Then Hess passed on and we got Woody Johnson. The rest as they say is history. If I have time, I'll look up the link that said the Jags owner wanted Caldwell to interview a second time with the Jets just to make sure he wanted the Jag's position. Evidently, Caldwell had no intentions to interview again but was prodded to do so by his new employer. A second interview only means that there's interest coming from one side. If your future employer asks you to interview for another position, you're going because you were asked to, not because you wanted to. Huge difference. Regarding the media, these days with all the means at hand to archive statements and such, you can't run from statements you make anymore. There's no more "forgetting I said that" nonsense. There's always a camera, a hot microphone, something that's recording everything that is said and done. All Rex had to say was we're going back to being a rushing offense which is what he said. Unfortunately, Big Mouth Rex had to give it a name and hype it up as the "Ground and Pound". Funny thing about life is that truth always comes out in the end. Rex can bullshit his way around Woody Johnson and many Homeristic Jet Fans, but in the end, he will be the instrument of his own demise. In the meantime, the Jets Brand will continue its trending downwards and just like back in the last days of Leon Hess, seas of empty seats will embarass this ownership into true change. Just for historical perspective, many years ago, the Jets played a Monday Nite football game in the rain. It may have been Sunday Nite but whatever. The entire upper deck at the old Meadowlands stadium was empty except for several lone fans sitting in the rain with bags over their heads. That was the last straw I think for Leon Hess. Something similar to that has to happen to Woody Johnson for that epiphany.
The owner doesn't play on Sunday so he is irrelevant. The coach is fine, who do you propose we put in his place and I totally agree on the QB and don't worry unless Ryan already has his house on the market there is no chance in the world he puts this team in Sanchez's hands again.
Woody is nothing more than a rich mans son. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and has never accomplished anything on his own. We are seeing the fruits of that now.
Bruce Arians. And Rex will start Mark again defying logic just like he did this past season. Actions speak louder than words.
HAHA You want soooo badly for the brand to get bad just so Rex Ryan doesn't come back. Same goes for Woody. Hopefully Rob Ryan is hired as a DB coach. I don't know WHAT you would do then... Rex isn't going to fail here. He'll succeed and you will be at a loss for words.
Armand....... I think it's awesome you have become a Jets fan. I hope it is a lifetime thing for you. I think it's great that u are positive. Please try to understand the perspective of the 30 plus year fan. The Jets have 2 division titles, 0 AFC titles, and 0 Super Bowl titles since the AFL/NFL merger. Let that sink in. The franchise due to cap restrictions, no talent, no QB, poor coaching or whatever you choose to blame is going the wrong way from '09-'10. As a long time fan, a few playoff wins are simply not enough at this point. Yes, the past 10-15 could arguably be considered the golden era as a fan since we make the playoffs with some regularity. Again.....that is just not enough at this point for a long time fan. I don't pretend to know the answers to winning a title, but we've had false hope over and over as a fan with it never to pan out (unless you were around for Namath). I know you can't grasp the overwhelming negativity yet, just try to. Hopefully, the Jets win 10 VLT's in your lifetime. Just don't hold your breath. Always stay loyal though.
I can certainly understand it. It would be hard for me to be patient, and I'm glad so many Jets fans are this patient. And believe me, you're not getting rid of me anytime soon:up:. I always have the mantra 'it can always be worse'. You can be like the Bengals and not have a playoff win in 20 odd something years. Or like several old franchises and not have a Superbowl. At least we have an old ass ring. We also at least have playoff victories and more often than not, are not in competition for a number one draft choice. Get the right GM and set a standard. One Superbowl every five years. If we win a SB, I will not complain about anything for the next five years. Rex can suck Woody's toes at halftime and wear a Brady jersey for all I care, and I won't complain. I'd just rather see the positive in all moves we make unless proven otherwise. I've only been a fan since 2010 and have been seriously following the team since 11 (was able to watch every game as opposed to 2010). I've been following on forums since summer. I'm trying to learn more about the franchise day by day. This place is great for getting a lot of information, and I hope to be on here for many years to come. I have a good feeling about Rex (not Sanchez, he needs to go), and I think he can get us to where we want to be. We're the only team that the Patriots really respect in the division so to speak. They bring out their throwback unis when they play us...superstition. They know with an average offense, we're not some cupcake to play. Believe me, I'll stay loyal. And, as always ats_suck:
i see a little bit clearer your stance on things now armand. its a very different landscape as a fan for 2 years than it is as a fan for 30 years. let me ask, and i dont mean to try to call you out at all. are you a young fan or a new to the team fan? and how/why did you become a fan?
While I'm sure the homers find the complaining and negativity from the SOFJs annoying, I find it extremely arrogant and annoying that you equally believe that you being positive and in our eyes unrealistic about your team makes you more of a fan. We all love this team or we wouldn't spend time on this board talking about it. Just because we have a different opinion doesn't mean we love the team any less.
