didn't we have 6 sacks without our pro-bowl NT.....and the defense played bad? you take away the ST touchdowns and the fumble recovery.....and the defense only gave up 9 points! GTFOH. EDIT: BTW....nobody feels good about defeats...I hate losing. But I can also be objective and find the positives.
It was because of the scores behind it- It was 24-19, thanks to the 3 non-offensive TD's. You are correct, they scored to make it 30-19. Their only TD on offense. I understand your point, they should've stopped them, they didn't. Jets scored, it was 30-25. The Jets stopped the phins next possession, 3 and out in fact. They gave the Offense the ball on our 45 with 3:39 left to play. The Jets stopped them that time, but that gets no attention? All in all the D played great.
This "only" business is nonsense. The Miami O hardly played in the third quarter, because the Jets were giving up 21 points to their ST and D. You won't see much of your opponent's O when your O and ST play like that. The Jets' CS game planned well beforehand, but when Miami's O took the field already ahead near the end of the third quarter, what happened? Miami's O scored the winning margin. A Miami O, btw, that is ranked 23rd in the league. Sorry, I was not impressed by the Jet D yesterday. They made some great plays, but they let Miami score when they had to.
not really. i am looking forward after the loss just as you look forward after the win. each week is different and brings new things to the table. i knew this team wouldn't be a superbowl team this year, but of course i still had hope that i would be wrong and they would make a miracle run. it is safe to say that doesn't appear to be happening this year so i am looking for what can be built on moving forward and what needs to be totally overhauled. so for me yesterday it was nice to see the defense stand up and play well without jenkins. last year with jenkins still playing but at a lower level the defense fell apart. this year without him they stopped the best rushing team in the nfl cold. the defense is obviously something that can be built on moving forward and should only get better in the next few years. on offense i was pleased and frustrated. the first half offense was awful and i blame schotty for that. everyone in the stadium knew when it was going to be a run and when it was going to be a pass. first and second down we went with heavy sets with 0 or 1 wr on the field. third down we went to shotgun and asked the phins to blitz sanchez. the second half the play calling became more balanced and sanchez had some time to read the defense and make some plays. sanchez showed me a lot keeping the team in the game when the special teams had totally let the rest of the team down. with more experience maybe he finishes out the comeback instead of coming up short. yesterday i saw lots of things that can be built on moving forward this year and in the long term. i want this team to be a contender year in and year out, but stuff like that is built over a period of years. see the saints this year the domination we are seeing was built over the last three seasons. these things take time but as long as we are moving in the right direction this year is a success.
I normally look at positives after losses as well. But today is the day after we saw how the Jets went to 4-4, being swept by the fish who are 1-4 against the rest of their schedule, with the Jets finding a new way to lose, a hallmark of SOJ, and it all adds up to a stinking pile. I am not so sure the Jets are moving in the right direction, either. Sanchez is a rookie, and has played inconsistently, which is generally to be expected. But will his development take a period of time that will also see the play of several key vets decline? This OL has played together longer without interruption than any other current group in the NFL. The Jets lead the league in rushing. How long will those strong points hold up while Sanchez develops? My head hurts. I think I was right not to think about the future today.
yeah lots of moving parts in the nfl. i love the young core we have and think a good team can be placed around them in the next few years. obviously some key personnel decisions will decide that, but i think it is reasonable to expect the talent level of the team to continue to improve.
couldnt have said it better myself, mb. i agree with this whole post, especially woodhead being unfit for regular season nfl play.
from a dolphin fan: 1) if any of you still think Sanchez is garbage...you should go shoot yourselves. He played a hell of a game....no turnovers, 250+ yards passing....well done. - agreed, i've said it before and i'll say it again...sanchez is the real deal. he's on his way to becoming a stellar QB and i'm only glad because chad henne will be too and the two are going to have some more great games. henne 2-0 vs sanchez right now. 2) Brad Smith should've been out there playing. Why would you make one of our best special team tacklers "inactive"?! And for who....so Leadfoot Izzo can run around and miss tackles.....or so Rudy Woodhead can continue to give Jets fans false hope? C'mon Westhoff...you know better than that. PLAY YOUR BEST PLAYERS!!! - the kickoff returns were genuinely good returns in the entire phase of special teams. some miami blockers had KEY blocks and some i even noticed just barely shoved some jets coverage players enough to mess up the angles they had on ginn. izzo blew his tackle...clearly. 3) The wildcat was stopped today....2/3 of Bell Biv Devoe were stopped cold (Ricky and Ronny.....Michael was "inactive").....I don't want to hear from these Dolphin homos how the Jets were owned by the Wildcat....because it didn't happen. Try watching the game instead of trying to keep your balance on that bandwagon, Phin fans. - whoever is a finfan and saying the jets were owned by the wildcat should probably be called homos...i'm cool with that... the jets defense and r.ryan had a great plan against the miami offense. they executed the plan to perfection except for the one miami drive that got us a very important TD. 4) Braylon Edwards better be signed long term in the offseason. He's money in the bank. - i think b.edwards has benefitted from some great sanchez passes. i would rate sanchez MUCH HIGHER as a QB than b.edwards as a WR. you should be praising keller...he had some great catches 5)Losing Jenkins didn't look nearly as bad today....as the loss of Leon Washington. Justin Miller is done, people. - pouha played WAY better against miami than jenkins did. you guys have an excellent replacement for jenkins you won't miss a beat 6) Henne ate more grass today...than a flock of farm goats. He was NOT the reason why the Phins won the game...in fact, he was mediocre at best. This loss is on the Jets Special Teams....through and through. That's 14 points that should NEVER have made it to the scoreboard. On a positive not...those 2 kickoff return TD's could've easily snuffed the Jets momentum....but the Jets didn't give up...and made a game of it. I still believe in this team. - again, jets defense was prepared and r.ryan clearly had a plan. miami's win by 5 points and 14 points coming through special teams clearly makes one feel that the other phases of miami's team did nothing - this is not true. the defense STRIPPED the ball from your offense TWICE and got robbed on one. one was returned for a TD by j.taylor and the other resulted in a b.edwards TD at the goal line. it was admirable to see the jets come back and make a game out of it after behing behind. bottom line from a fin fan's point of view.
take away miami's 2 kick off returns for touchdowns AND miami's stripped ball return for a TD and you end up with an offensive passing TD thrown by henne for 7 points and a field goal for 3 points for 10 total points. now take away that TD the refs gave b.edwards at the goal line and the jets end up with 18 points. 10 - 18 is NOT an ass kicking.........dominating a team is what the patriots did to the titans the other week or what you guys did to the raiders last week.
the touchdown edwards scored was a touchdown, they had 2 minutes to challenge it and did not. I believe they have more of an idea about it then you do.
