We're a fan because it's in our blood ... we always come back for more and are always let down because its in our blood we bleed green ... the team on the other hand not so much
As fans, there's nothing we can do to help the Jets win a Super Bowl. Don't waste your emotional energy hoping for something completely beyond your control! Put your energy into working out, starting your own business, learning a new language, learning to play an instrument, writing that novel, fixing your shitty omnivore diet. Put your emotional energy, your heart, into things you can actually control. When you do that, you get the satisfaction of making progress and achieving your goals. Sports can be a fun distraction, but don't let it take over. Even if the Jets did win a Super Bowl, you'd get nothing. Your ring will not be in the mail. Never forget that. You'd be cheering with your fellow fans, and gloating, but ultimately your life would stay the same. So when the Jets suck, which is most of the time, don't let them ruin your weekend. Don't spend all night worrying about the team as if you were one of the coaches. Keep your focus on things that can actually improve your life and bring you happiness. Enjoy the occasional good years, and when they suck you don't have to be that guy screaming at the TV.
when are u guys gonna wake the fuck up and realize we are never going to a superbowl until joe namath is gone, when is it gonna fucking sink in that we are jinxed cuz of his asshole guarantee , u people just don't get it , wake the fuck up , its only taken 47 years for u guys to realize--hey maybe there is something to this--and its gonna keep being longer and longer til he croaks
If you look at it just this year, it's frustrating. But step back 10 feet and look at ALL teams over the last 50 years. SOME teams are mainstays, always in the hunt. SOME teams are bottom feeders, always suck. Occasionally a team will luck into a Tom Brady and be good for 10 years, then back to sucking. Over the long haul, any team will always be near the top with really good scouting to find talent, really good GM to sign the right long term contracts and to cut the right players, and the right HC who's demands respect from his team, prepares his team for the next opponent, and comes up with good game plans. Sure, a team with all this could lose the next 2 games, but over 5-10-15 yrs, a team with all this will almost always be playing in January.
you guys are a bunch of average fans. I am better than you. Me, me, me, myself, me, yes I am better. oh and Mark Sanchez too
Past performance is no guarantee of future returns. You need realistic expectations. It's a QB driven league and you have a journeyman backup at QB. I would be less pissed about what the team did in previous decades and more pissed at the group of young QB's who are actually having a positive impact on teams across the league.
Jets are afraid to pull the trigger on a first round QB since Sanchez. Thing is that you need an above average QB to win in this league and drafting one in the first round gives you higher chances of getting one. Geno's a bust, Petty is a long shot, and Hack looked like crap so far. Next!
Tony Romo is getting healthy and the Cowgirls might send Dak Prescott their young QB who is tearing it up back to the bench. Imagine that, deciding whether or not you want to send your dynamic young QB back to the bench to play your franchise QB again or not. (undrafted and 4th round selections btw) These Jets have tried everything at QB, 16 QBs drafted since 1990, they've signed veterans, they've made trades, they've traded up in the draft to get a QB, they've acquired hall of fame/journeyman/"overlooked" QBs from elsewhere, they've rolled with 4 QBs to "bring out the competition", they've done the opposite and given one guy the job and kept him away from competition so it doesn't hurt his psyche, etc.. They've tried everything and they've all sucked and the Cowboys are picking between two beasts. The colts, broncos and packers have had one legend pass the torch to another, etc. Its got to be more than just QB, why does this happen to some teams and not to others? As we see with the Jets its not for a lack of trying
Sure, I'll still probably still watch but in a detached, no emotional investment kind of way. I do hear the frustration and since I've been watching since 1983 the good seasons have been few and far between. It does make you wonder why the cycle keeps perpetuating itself through GM's coaches, players and even new ownership. I mean, wtf? Shouldn't this all come together even just once? For God's sake the Saints and Bucs have even won superbowls!
The Jets have only drafted 5 QBs in the first round... Namath, Todd, O'Brien (should have gotten Marino), Chad, Sanchez. Sure, they've picked some busts, but they've also never thrown their hat in often enough. 5 first round QBs are numbers I'd expect from a team who's had success at the QB position for years, not one who hasn't since the early 70s.
Bite your tongue. Ken O'Brien was the second best QB in Jets history (unless you want to count Favre). The Jets made a very good pick when they took him. If half the team didn't get hurt in 1986 O'Brien would have had the Jets facing off against the Giants in the 1986 Superbowl. The Jets were one of twenty six teams to pass on Dan Marino. Saying he should have been a Jet is like saying that Tom Brady should have been a Jet. The Kansas City Chiefs selected seventh overall. Not only did they fail to trade up for Elway but they passed on Jim Kelley, Dan Marino, and Ken O'Brien for Todd Blackledge. If Marino should have gone anywhere besides Miami it was Kansas City. As it was, Marino was the worst post season QB in NFL history. Without Don Shula would he may not have been half as good. We were damn lucky to have Ken O'Brien lead this team.
My memory of Marino is he never/ever won a important game & yes his stats in PO game is horrible to say the least
Thanks - I think as a Jets fan you have to be able to do that or you'll go nuts. Yup! The word "fan" actually derives from the word "fanatic" but I agree that there's a big difference. The Jets have usually not been that kind of a consistent team, though. Other than the SB year, the Jets were somewhat stable in the 80s, and pretty good from 2001 to 2010. The fluke year of '98. And that's about it for 57 years. Maybe 23 years of being reasonably competitive (with 14 playoff appearances.) So expect that most of the time, the Jets will not be that relevant. This is one of those eras. With the New England Patriots, it's a big question mark. For the Dolphins, yeah they went back to sucking after Marino retired (and they never even got a Super Bowl when he was with them.) With the Steelers, they were great in the 70s and never looked back. Unclear what it will be like for the the Patriots.
