I have been skeptical on Marrone as anyone. I spend a lot of time in Buffalo so I understand the negatives... But let's settle the fuck down crybabys There's positives and negatives and maybe just maybe he learned from his mistakes in Buffalo. Besides most of you kissed Rex's dumbass for 6 years let's give Marrone 6 days at least
Well I know folks are tired of hearing from me, but I can't pass this one up. The worst part performance wise of this year's Bills was the O-line. It was worse this year than last year. The O-line is allegedly his specialty but they regressed badly under his watch. And in the end it probably cost them a playoff berth. What did he do? He put a mediocre RT in at RG, where he was beyond atrocious all year. He sat Urbik, a serviceable G (at least pre Marrone) for most of the year because DM had his nose out of joint about something personal and insignificant (he does stuff like that - not necessarily a player's coach). His basic O-line thinking is BIG -and that's pretty much it. Of course that means they are also slow, especially the guards, meaning your options are extremely limited in the run game - hence the misuse of a game breaking scatback like Spiller. Thing is, not only were they slow, but despite their size, they were unable to get any push in implementing DMs blocking scheme. Now of course it's always possible to point at the players, but they were never that inept before he showed up. Urbik was a serviceable guard, Pears was a serviceable RT (never a guard), Woods made a couple of pro bowls and Glenn was an up and coming franchise LT. Carolina had a lousy line for most of this year but they were able to straighten that out in season with no better talent than the Bills had. Over two years of DM the line went deeper and deeper into the toilet.
Ok, so what I'd do is cancel all of the Seattle interviews and just get Morrone in and sign him now before the 49ers get to him. At the same time I talk to Graves to see where he is in terms of Morrone as head coach. If on board I hire him as GM and then he's part of the Morrone interview team. Right after that Graves can hire or fire anyone he wants to in the front office. We can get two experienced guys this weekend with experience and cut to the chase instead of playing with ourselves.
Stupid. You don't hire a guy before interviewing any one else. Not to mention, Eric DeCosta has not declined an interview yet. Why hire a coach before hearing back from him also? Stupid.
i get your idea, but i say take some time and let the two experienced guys , wolf and casserly, make what they think is the the best choice. keep woody from doing anything rash or hurried. has not worked out well in the past.
No time to lose your top candidate. The guy became available and assuming there was no communication before the fact and that Woody was genuinely surprised by his availabity I go for it today.
nonsense! he was wilson's hire, and new owner would not give him or his staff extensions. he was smart to exercise opt-out. he gets to keep $4 million, just like rex if he goes into media job. unlike rex, there is no offset for coaching pay. he knows that both this year and next, there will be plenty of openings for hc jobs.
You act like DeCosta is Ozzie Newsome. Well, he's not. He's an unproven quantity not somebody who should be putting you on hold or turning you down. Graves knows the team and the situation and has previous experience and success. I'd go for Graves and Morrone and act fast.
Have you not seen how happy Bills fans are? He's an OL coach with a shit OL and a bad offense. Shwartz' defense made that team.
mezz, i have to disagree. he did what any smart person would do. new owner would not give him and staff extensions. and, whether this year or next, there will be plenty of chances to get a hc gig. he gets $4 million to walk away and no offset. plus, he can go to a real major-league city like nyc, atlanta , oak/sf bay, chicago, etc. you don't think philbin is much longer than next year in miami, do you?
Harbaugh took less money to coach at Michigan. The Raiders offered him more money. http://www.sportsgrid.com/ncaa-football/jim-harbaugh-took-way-less-of-michigans-money-than-expected/ I would have liked Harbaugh too because he puts all 53 players in a position to succeed - he coaches every guy up, unlike Rex who just coaches up the defense. Marrone to me looks like a guy that demands the attention of everyone in the locker room, not just 1 side of the ball. Marrone could put all of our players in a position to succeed. Rex failed to do this. As messed up as this sounds, if we needed to fire Rex to get Idzik and the scouting dept out of here - then well I'm making that decision 9/10 times.
He is coveted because of Ozzie whose the guy I'd like to hire. Also he probably doesn't want the owner choosing the coach. I have no problem with him but he's not a superstar candidate. Graves is in place and has a good resume.
DeCosta as GM trumps every other candidate, including GM and HC positions. If there is an inkling that he's interested in the NYJ, then we should wait on him.
i get your point, but i don't think you need to rush. i don't see any other team rushing to get marrone. it is not like you have rogers-cromartie in your building and know he has interview with the giants lined up soon.
