While I agree to a certain extent.......... he has left depth at plenty of positions. Look Lito and Strickland went down and there wasn't a huge dropoff even against the most prolific offensive team in the league. Pace the best OLB by quite a lot is suspended and the defense is still pretty damn good. Ellis missed the first game and the DL did't miss a beat. He has built surprising amount of depth in the secondary and @ linebacker and dare I say the depth on the DL is light years better in the last year. He has to build depth in other key areas to be sure <cough><cough> Oline. But it isn't like the Jets are devoid of guys that can step in and play. Tannenbaum has made some good signings, that didn't make a huge splash and have worked out well. Tannebaum has been better than any Jet Gm in recent memory getting upper echelon players in Revis, Harris, Mangold and Jenkins. Then he acquired guys just below that level in Leon (he is almost an upper echelon playmaker), Keller, Brick, Pace, Scott, Faneca >>>>>> Lito, Leonard . It looks like he may have hit it out of the park with Sanchez and god knows about Greene. Man I think he is damn good. That is a significantly better track record then any Jet Gm I am aware of. Dare I say that player record puts him in the top half of the league. Where he falls after that, I am not really sure. Edit: I have seen a lot posts that this is a win now team and that is true. However, look at the better players on this roster, most if not all are on the right side of 30 with many on the right side of 25. This roster if kept together is a roster that is a win in the future one as well. Barring catastrophe this roster looks good for the next 5 years that is for damn sure.
Tanny's philosophy so far has been getting the players he wants, his future stars in the draft. While filling pieces and getting our depth through FA. I'd take players he traded "depth draft picks" for in Harris, Revis, Sanchez, Keller, Greene, Jenkins, Lito, and Edwards over maybe 1-2 true stars and a bunch of depth. He sees FA as his mid to late round "depth" picks. Edit: He also obviously gets the stars he wants in FA too in Scott, Faneca, Woody, Pace, Richardson, and Leonhard.
i was ecstatic about that trade when it happened, i was always a fan of lito sheppard and thought it was such a pity he had to be on philadelphia. hes a fun player to watch and i was thrilled to hear he came to the jets.
