I wasn't in favor of it early and really didn't like the compensation, but I knew if I didn't just accept it and enjoy the fun of the 2023 season, I would spiral down into rant mode about what bad judgment this whole situation displayed. Those 4 plays were magical.
Part of the difference is the Rams and Bucs had great offensive lines to protect those aging QBs - when Brady was at the Bucs they had a top 5 or so ranked line and it was the same at the Rams for Stafford - going into the season the Jets had the 30th ranked offensive line
the only pleasure this team gives me is the ability to rant and to feel like the smartest person in the room
Same here. I disliked it the entire time, but as opening day approached I allowed myself a very slight amount of excitement just because there was an infinitesimal chance it could go right. But I didn't allow myself to be so excited that i didn't just sit back, smile sarcastically, and shake my head once he went down.
Dude, the amount of respect I have for NE surfers that can paddle out in water temps they do is crazy....
LOL. Where is Roger Saffold? Bawden should not have been on the roster to begin with. Btw, remember how JD waived Colon and kept Bawden? Colon right now starting for Arizona at LG and has the highest PFF grade of any of our O linemen. Actually seems to be middle of the pack guy, which none of our players are. I mean how incompetent is JD when it comes to the OLine where even when he accidentally stumbled on an average player, who is way above the other crap he gave us, he lets him go not getting any benefit out of it. So fucking inept.
I know it sounds weird, but even though Douglas is supposedly an Oline guy it really feels to me like he has a problem with NFL offensive linemen. He likes finding old broken down players and guys who wouldn't qualify for the punt blocking unit. Tomlinson was like his biggest FA and that guy came from SanFran, and he sucks. How the Becton injury situation has been handled is sometimes bizarre and is not new, the precedent was set back in 2019 with Kelechi Osemele. The Alex Lewis situation was creepy. Yeah he had problems but you also scout their personality and Joe doesn't have a great handle on that I guess. He also pulled a Hackenberg on us when he chose to pass on Darrisaw to traded up for AVT because we were so set at tackle. That looked okay at first but not in hindsight.
The problem is that these moves were obvious to some of us even at the time, like @REVISion for instance. I didn't have access to all statistics at that time, but having seen and learned the statistics on the matter since, I now only feel that trade up is warranted when the guy you want took a rather big slide as compared to consensus, making the value proposition much higher, and even then giving two early 3d round pics is pretty significant. Not that JD ever got a starter with these picks or anything but still. At #14 a Guard is not a slide, but may actually be a slight reach. So, yeah I learned, but that's the whole point, JD should have known these things at the time, that statistically it was a terrible move. I am dead serious right now, I would prefer @ouchy to be our GM than JD. I think.
This is a good topic. Got a lot of valuable information here. I wasn’t on the Rodgers train then was convinced this would be a good 2 year ride. Now it’s shit again. Sure we may be competitive with a healthy Rodgers next year but I don’t see this team going to a success mode for years UNLESS they make some great pickups or moves beefing up the OL and WRs… I am with Darksider that we don’t have to go big with QB and just get an efficient one. Build the GD OL and get some quality receivers!!!!
