Lol. Thanks NC. I meant if he doesn’t go offense with round one I’m going to be seriously hurt. I’m ok with your scenario. But if it’s defense and defense again I will sour on JD right there and then. I’m dying for us to finally Make a move on an offensive playmaker that makes us relevant again.
Just saying, if you go back and look at the drafts there have been a lot of pro bowlers and quality players picked 10-12 and 11 specifically. JJ Watt was 11 I looked back through 2004 to see where Vilma was picked (12). We will get a quality player. Can feel it in my bones.
Good teams can find good players without having a top 5(or even a top 10) pick. Kelce, Hill, AB(before he went insane), and Kittle were taken no earlier than round 3. We need to find gems in the middle rounds almost as badly as we need an impact player in round 1.
It's just stunning - and depressing - how bad Maccagnan was. I'd think you would have to really TRY to screw up drafting and identifying talent on purpose to be as bad as he was. Thank god he's gone!
Agreed but just saying if you scroll through drafts for the last 15-6 years it's very positive outlook for 10-12; uncanny number of pro bowlers and star players
This. Drafting contributors in the middle rounds is where contenders are really made. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
Ding ding ding. It's not about finding gems. Gems are nice but they are just not common enough to hang your hat on. We need to find decent players that could start on an average to above average NFL roster.
I'd still like to see us go dumpster diving for one more camp body receiver that's available and willing to try to revive their career. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/all/wide-receiver/ Rashars Higgins, Paul Richardson, Justin Hardy, Jaron Brown. Probably all will remain garbage but it's worth a shot at the cheap contracts they'll command.
I think you’re right and I think we picked the best of the garbage pail kids. I really liked Doctson coming out of TCU and I thought the Skins has themselves a legit 1. Clearly I was wrong but he’s also clearly got talent. Injuries took away his first year then in his second year you could see what made him a first round pick. He’s never going to live up to that hype but I think he could be a useful piece in an NFL offense. Now whether or not we have one of those is another story...
If this happens, would you be happy or mad: JoeD moves up to #2 (Washington) and takes Chase Young, DL. JoeD gives up 2020 1st (11), 2020 2nd (43), and Quinnen Williams (2019 3rd overall). So basically he gives our our 2020 1st and 2nd plus Q for an edge rusher.
Mad. The Jets can get a blue chip prospect at 11 and another plug and play starter with potential at 48. The Jets aren't in a position to give up 3 starters this year (If you include Quinnen).
Why when this is such a great draft for WRs, and could even be an historic draft for WRs? Without OTAs and mini-camp, reps will be minimal for a rookie anyway. We'll need to get the rookie WR or WRs we take as many reps as possible if we hope to get any production out of them at all in their first season. You don't want to waste a year of their career. If Douglas is still thinking about signing any other FAs prior to the draft, I hope it's Vinny Curry or Logan Ryan.
That would be insanely stupid and contrary to anything and everything he has said he intends to do and should do. We needs to fill many holes not create more. This does diddly shit for Sam and the anemic offense.
Eh my thought is why not. We can cut them in camp if they suck. We're talking vet minimum contracts. But I do believe that we're going to take 2 receivers anyway.
