That throw impressed me alot, too. He was able to recognize a blown coverage on Chansi and he might be able to get the ball there without the threat of an INT. A very difficult throw that very few NFLers can make. It was IMO very impressive. Clemens would have been sacked on that play.
I have to agree that the throw to Cotch was his best throw of the night. But his poise and decision making on the Stuckey TD was just as impressive. Hopefully the OL can give him enough time so he doesnt take too many sacks and rattle his confidence. That will be critical this year.
those DL didnt seem to be jogging so care to explain? the pocket broke down, blame the O-line. and the throws he made on the run. beat the coverage.
All right... I am looking up. Too much negativity is unhealthy and I am changing my ways. Too much screaming at my TV last year. Maybe this defense will come together and there have been some encouraging things from Sanchez and hopefully Washington gets the ball a whole lot more!! If we can beat the Texans and either New England or Tennesse, there could be something here. The past 2 years I have been pretty beligerent and I am going to be more optimistic now.
I loved that pass, and I couldn't believe it was a rookie QB that threw it. The more I see of Sanchez, the more I get sold on this guy. His footwork is excellent, he has great pocket awareness, he can throw on the run, and when he gets his feet set it's usually an excellent pass. If we can get this guy some time in the pocket, he'll be lighting teams up. And I definitely saw enough in this game to allay any fears I had about arm strength and ball velocity. My concerns now are coachable ones - i.e. staring down receivers. That seems like his main weakness.
i agree on the footwork. its veteran. he has no signs of happy feet whatsoever. thats the kind of pass that only comes from a young guy though. you will never see an old guy get away from that pressure and make that throw in the same play. im glad he realizes that he stares them down so he can fix it. he is definitely the future for us
I am also becoming more optmistic about arm strength and velocity. That can be a huge factor, since I am quite skeptical that those can be improved significantly. You either have it or you don't.
That play was a defensive breakdown and Sanchez kept his eyes down field and got the ball out to Stuckey pretty safely. Nothing not to like about that. The kid looked pretty good to me. I would like to see more of the 8 to 20 yard passes from the pocket before I go crazy one way or another. Loved the pass to Cotch, love the fact that he can back up and keep his eyes down the field, that's going to make us a very good team at running the screen play effectively. I still would like to see more passes stepping up in the pocket and letting it go downfield with zip.
The thing I'd really like to see right now is a pocket. Guys have been sidelined with minor injuries all through the preseason so far and I have yet to see the Jets create any kind of reasonable facsimile of a pocket for the QB to work from. On the bright side Sanchez seems to be doing ok on the run at the moment. That probably means that he'll be able to avoid Carr-like sack levels if this continues.
???? In two games I have seen one throw from the pocket. Sanchez loves to take the ball and run as far backwards and as far to the right as he can, like he's playing in Madden. He can create on the run, obviously, but I don't understand how anyone can say hasn't shown happy feet.
in THE LAST two games he has completed one pass from a three step drop. It is not entirely his fault because of play calling and opponents pressure. The Rams are terrible, so his performance over the last two weeks with the #1s have shown me more than week 1. My feeling is that he his too quick to take off when stepping up in the pocket (if there ever is one) could be more beneficial in the long term.
Also want to mention that he's got a lightning fast release, which is extremely underrated for quarterbacks.
i've seen him take off as well, but the pass blocking on the OL isn't nearly as good as their run blocking. he has a good clock in his head knowing when to bail. A trait most rookies don't possess.
And not to derail the thread on the happy feet issue but John Elway had happy feet bigtime. So did Fran Tarkenton. Some QB's are better on the move than set in the pocket. Once Sanchez gets a pocket we'll see which he prefers.
Happy feet? All I give a shit about is that he makes plays. He can send it from the sideline for all I give a shit, as long as it gets there. The pocket is collapsing on him, so I'm not sure what else he's supposed to do. Take a sack? And yeah he does stare people down, but he knows the problem is there and it's really just a matter of becoming more familiar with the position at this level. He's the best option we have right now, so...
i guess it got misconstrued, so let me clarify -- i am 1,000% behind Sanchez. I want him to do well (obviously) and I think he can and will do well. I was just commenting on the "No Happy Feet" comment. Sanchez hasn't shown pocket prescense but he hasn't really gotten that chance yet either. To be honest, he has surprised me with his arm strength and his decision making. Maybe if he didn't spend half of practice working on his fake draws that Schottenheimer calls 20 times per game, Sanchez would be better off. And he is BY FAR the best option we have at QB.
yes he has. He can step up, avoid the rush and he's he can take the hit as he throws and still make the completion. that's pocket presence. If you want to see a QB who hasn't displayed any, watch Kellen Clemens.
