I've heard Westoff say a million times in the past (after a trick play didn't work) about how on film it looked like a slam dunk. And then something goes wrong. Like the punter overthrows the receiver. A Jets O-lineman misses an assignment (again). Or the other team adjusts. Or the D player makes a big time play. If you're down by 3 I wouldn't say a word even though with 4 min left you should punt. But with a 3 pt lead entirely stupid. And they were sacking Tannehill's ass all afternoon.
I agree with you. How a self proclaimed defensive genius can risk giving the ball back in tying field goal range -- is just plain asinine.
He was patting himself on the back at the post game. He would never have had the guts to call that anywhere but in meaningless game at the end of a dismal season. I thought he looked ridiculous making those comments. He clearly did not trust his D. They are routinely abysmal at the end of any half
As a fan I wanted him to win the game. Not show off or try to impress his players (like he always does). They probably told him to "go for it." A smart coach would tell them to go and shove it.
I loved Rex for his passion and his confidence. I'm sad to see him go. If we only had a quarterback....
Rex gonna sign with NE over their bye and him & Revis will be smiling with a lombardi trophy in january... good times. Lol that would literally be the day i stop watching football...forever
1) 4 straight non-winning, non-playoff years (out of 6 total) 2) 18-33 in his last 51 games. 3) 4-12 in his final season (our worst season since 2007). 4) 46-50 overall record. 5) 5 straight years of all 1st round picks being used on defensive players (I'm sure Rex had nothing to do with that, right?) 6) 6 years of hot air, empty promises, telling his players they are better than they really are, and embarrassingly delusional comments. Yeah . . . it was time to move on
Love Rex, great memories. He came in and gave our team a voice, made us something to talk about. For once we were not the "other NY football team". Unfortunately for us and him, it did not last. It just shows you how fast things change in the NFL, hopefully we can right this ship with a new (and more coordinated) front office and coaching staff. I will most certainly miss Rex Ryan being our coach. Through all the bombast and ridiculous statements he made, I loved it. So many Giants fans would tell me "I hate Rex Ryan, he is the epitome of the no-class Jets organization". I liked that, because at least for once they noticed the Jets. If I was a fan of a team who was currently looking for a head coach, I would be damn pleased if I got Rex Ryan. Thanks for the memories Rex, and best of luck in the future. Now go eat a goddamn snack.
Damn, I'm going to miss me some REX RYAN. I really wish the sparanno and tebow and Holmes moves never happened... I miss those big splash tanny signings too.
Woody might have had legit reasons for firing him. But I haven't heard any good reasons, yet. Not after under two years and two drafts. Plus trades all of them good.
*WHAT IF REX*........... 1)- ...had a viable alternative @ QB other than Vick & Geno? 2)- ...had, at the least, a DECENT pair of cornerbacks? 3)- ...had spent more time & effort on the offense along with realizing that "ground & pound" is fine, but you absolutely cannot win without having a passing game ? 4)- ...had strongly "voiced" his opposition against the Te-blow trade? 5)- ...had learned how to focus on the little things like" clock mgmt", avoidance of "too many men on...", "motion, off-sides" etc, penalties ? 6)- ...was less "likable" with his players & more "HARBAUGH"-like ? 7)- ...was BOTH the coach AND general manger? Just curious! I have several more *WHAT IF REX*....... questions, but 'll leave it at this for now.
Rex was a true Jet all the way through. very good coach, he bled green, and was loyal to the team right to the end. it was a great ride. looking forward to seeing him at his next spot.
