Absolutely, I don't follow Penn State very closely so I had no idea how bad things were for O'Brien who obviously did everything he could with a bare cubbard. While not on as grand of a scale after all we're essentially a commuter school and not even the flagship school in the state but it sounds a lot like UNLV. People want Tark who is a one of a kind guy, he was Vegas much like Patreno was Penn State. Tark embodied what Vegas was and is, an outlaw, who wasn't afraid to challenge the system and give guys a 2nd chance. I can agree that if O'Brien had gone to say Illinois under teh same circumstances he'd be a hero but at Penn he's not Paterno.... his move makes more sense now.
I dont understand why everyone falls all over "the job he did at Penn State." Losing scholarships and bowl bids hurts you 3 and 4 years down the line when you have no good recruits after the scandal. But once youre hit with the sanctions, you still have a roster of 4 and 5 star recruits for the next two or three seasons. I believe only one player that actually mattered transferred (Redd to USC) where he did nothing. There were some average to below average players who left. Big deal. But I expected them to be fine for a few years until the recruiting caught up with them. O'Brien was there during the eye of the storm.
