Well call me nuts then because I don't think the wonderlic has any impact on anything. Guess you would've passed on Dan Marino and his score of 15?? Please do explain how the comparison to Vince Young is "apt" Because to me they couldn't be any further away as far as prospects go. I am anxiously awaiting this response.
Good post and thought process. I see two problems with it however. One, you seem to leave BPA out of your equation. IMO #s 4 & 5 should be equal, and the Jets should strongly consider who the BPA is, and not just go with offense because we need to upgrade the offense. I like Howard a lot, but I don't think he's a better player or would have a bigger impact than Adams or Hooker. Two, is your statement that you'd rather take a QB in the first round, by whatever means necessary. That would seem to include overdrafting/reaching for a QB in the first round, who really wasn't that good. IMO there would be no bigger mistake that Mac could make.
I won't call you "nuts" but will simply say that I disagree. The Wonderlic gives some indication of the intelligence level and the ability of the player to learn a complex system. It also gives some insight into the type of decisions that they might make off the field. If I'm an NFL GM, I'm not taking any player who makes below a 10 on the Wonderlic, and I would have to thoroughly vet any QB that makes below a 20 before I would consider taking him.
Best pick available is considered. At step 4 I listed blocking as being the most important but also recognized that this year's offensive line crop is government issued cheese when nominating Howard as my preferred pick. I'd much prefer the Jets moved on to step 5 and selected Adams or Hooker over making an extreme reach with someone like Garrett Bolles. That would be plain foolish. When I said by whatever means necessary, this is assuming they've identified that franchise QB. If the team doesn't feel any of these QBs stack up, then they don't do it, just proceed to step 2 and so on. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
Still anxiously waiting to hear how Watson compares to Young? Cmon impart some wisdom on me how two basically polar opposites can be compared in your mind?
Did you not watch either of the National Championship games? His lead back averaged 2.6 yards per carry. Watson dominated both of those games. You didn't watch if you think he didn't.
My gut tells me that this is our guy...... Better start hoping we are all wrong Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk
