Tebow is a better blocker, I'm sure, than any other back we might put out there..probably better than the receivers too. Why do you think he is the personal protector on punts?
I think having him as the punt protector is more about messing with the return team. We have someone on the field who can pass and run, so our ability to fake is greater. The other team needs to account for this, by spying tebow and watching eligible WRs at the snap, this gives our gunners and coverage team an advantage in covering the punt. If we still had Weatherford back there with Tebow as the Protector, I don't think we'd ever actually punt
This. Bill Parcells was on The Michael Kay Show yesterday, and he said that Tebow as the Punt Protector is something teams must pay attention to because of the possibilities of faking the Punt. Sure, most of us probably knew that already, but it has some credence when Parcells says it.
I agree with all of that but he still has to be able to block first..if he couldn't he would only be in once in a blue moon. He will be there on every punt.
On 4th and 2 or less you're probably better off going for it than punting in almost any field position. This is assuming that you can make 2 yards 75% of the time. Possession of the ball is the most important factor in determining the score potential of the game at any given point. Field position comes after that. Obviously when you are inside your own red zone it's better to punt but almost anywhere else you're probably better off going for it.
I love seeing coaches go for 4th and short and never understood why it doesn't happen more often. If having Tebow on the team gives them the balls to go for more 4th and shorts I'm all for it but I doubt we'll see it happen in our own territory unless it's a desperate come-from-behind situation.
tebow is going to be a productive part of the offense. All the experts disagree, watch what happens when we hang 30 on the bills.
Most people are completely underestimating the effect that tebow can have on this offense. This guy is the other extreme. I think the tebow package will probably have 2-3 games where when you look back at it you will say without that guy we don't win those games and 2-3 games can make a huge difference. Similar to how brad smith would win us a few games during the year. The Pitt game in 2010 and the thanksgiving game against the bengals are two that jump out at me tebow will do the same. People who dismiss this as a gimmick don't understand football. This is an offense that has been run for a long time now with success. If you have the right personnel to run it it will be successful. The point is the quarterback normally doesn't need to be accounted for (unless your Vick or newton or tebow) and that puts the numbers advantage on the defensive side of the ball. You throw tebow back there and the defense loses those numbers and has to bring at least one guy in to account for him. Now if you keep both tebow and Sanchez in that changes things also. If Sanchez is split out the defense doesn't have to pay him much attention and i would prefer he came out completely rather than stay in the game. The corner will still need to keep tabs on him but I don't really want to see the jets throwing passes to Sanchez. If Sanchez is behind center and tebow is in, the defense still has that numbers advantage because Sanchez, although can scramble a little bit, is not a big rushing threat. The jets still have an advantage in that scenario though because the defense can't fully commit to stopping the run when tebow gets the ball because of the passing threat so it still causes issues for the opposition.
I'll take the over Good point. He must be doing a serviceable enough job on the punt team that it hasn't been a liability yet.
It's also good to have Tebow and Sanchez in the game at the same time because it creates a headache for the defense in figuring out what sub-package they want to put in. Say that it's 3'rd and 5 and both Sanchez and Tebow are in the huddle. Does the defense go with a nickle/dime pass coverage package ? Or go heavy and load the box to stop a Tebow read/spread Option run ? Couple that with a hurry up no huddle offense that prevents the defense from substituting. If we catch them heavy, then line Sanchez up play after play after play and pass the ball down field. If they are stuck in nickle/dime, put Tebow in the gun and let him go. Wouldn't do this for the entire game or anything like that, but it could make quite a difference on a drive or two, all depending on what the defense does to adjust.
There have been moments in the NFL History when a 'crazy coach' stumbled onto something that ended up revolutionizing the entire NFL. Years before any of us, football was run right, run left, run up the middle. Teams NEVER threw the pigskin. But then some 'crazy coach' decided to replace the RB with a 'QB' who could run OR throw...he was mocked...crucified as being a circus. Well, that 'crazy coach' changed the NFL forever. Then the 49'rs decided to replace their non-existent running game with a short passing game with TEs and RBs catching 3 yard passes and WRs running this thing called 'slants'. Thus the birth of 'crazy coach Walsh' inventing the West Coast Offense, to be copied over the years by every team in the NFL. Ryan with Sanchez and Tebow is NOT a 2-headed QB system where each QB takes turns running the same plays. For the first time in the history of the NFL we have a team with 2 completely different offenses that opposing defenses MUST prepare for equally. And all this just after the Players demanding and getting a greatly reduced practice schedule, including an entire week off during the bye week. We're watching a mini-revolution up north with Belicheck flooding the field with big, strong, tall fast receivers called Tight Ends. When Belli used 2 first round pics on fricken TEs everyone laughed. No one is laughing any more. Give Rex, Sanchez, and Tebow a year to figure this thing out and watch team after team be under-prepared to defend either. Then watch team after team struggle to get their own 'tebow'. Imitation will be the finest form of flattery.
Allow me to continue my rant... Imagine for just a minute if the Pats had Tom Brady AND Micheal Vick as QBs, each running their own brand of football. Belli could run either QB, on any play, on any Sunday. Good luck preparing for THAT with 3 practice days. Yes, I know Sanchez aint no Brady and Tebow aint no Vick, but if Mark and Tim can become above avg QBs in their own right, and with Tebow being so different from anything the NFL has ever seen, then some time down the road we COULD have a Brady/Vick scenario that becomes the ultimate nightmare to defend, with neither QB being a superstar.
There's some interesting points in the article if you can swerve around the supposition and bullshit.
Every so called jets fan on tv is a total dipshit.they all just bash the jets and act like it's insider info
I'm looking forward to both Tim and Mark together in the shotgun calling different audibles, pointing out a different mike and generally messing with the defense.
