He can't win -- he's expected to be a standard-bearer for Christianity even by people who don't give a flip about his Christianity. The first people to holler "hypocrite, a true Christian wouldn't do that!" are the same ones who would say "stop ramming your Christianity down my throat."

For someone to have a problem with the photo, they need to go on the record with "I have an ethical problem with that photo, it was wrong for such a photo to be taken." It's really not reasonable to go "I don't have an ethical problem with that photo, but Tebow should." Obviously, he didn't, and he's never held court on proper photo ethics.

And I think he was holding footballs in the photo back when he was in college.

Yeah he was holding footballs in the original photo...The way they edited it certainly made it look more controversial than it really was.

Tim's not the smartest guy in the world (and a little naiive), so I could imagine the scenario possibly played out that the photographer just told Tebow the pose he wanted, and Tebow, not thinking, just complied....

"Hey Tim, grab those footballs and hold them out with your arms extended..."
    "Great..."
"Okay, put your right leg over your left leg"
    "Oooh that looks good"
"Aright I want you to kind of tilt your head to the right"
"Ahhh...Perfect! Looking good!! Hold that pose!!"

^^ I see the situation playing out like that as well.

Especially in a time when GQ wanted to do a pictorial on a college player who by all accounts "was never going to make it in the NFL"

I'm neither a fan or a hater of Tebow, as long as he helps the Jets but with that said, it's kinda fucked up that they still used him as a cover spread, altered a photo and portrayed it in a light that he would probably refuse to do originally.

    Kinda grimy.

I do not like that photo at all. I'm christian, definetely not at Tebow's level, but it makes me feel uneasy - its a little offensive, honestly. He definetely should not have posed like that, even with the footballs because it doesn't take a genius to deduce what they were trying to do.

    What can he do NOW?:

They (Tim and his "team" of marketers/publicists) should speak out against the photo. Especially since he recently rejected to work with GQ and that picture was from his college days.

A statement like this would make me respect him a lot more.

"Tim Tebow is well-known for his displays of faith and it is something he is proud of, however a recent photo released that was manipulated to portray Tim Tebow in the manner of Jesus Christ is not something Tim condones. GQ magazine after being rejected by Tim for a recent photoshoot, took an old photo from Tim's time as a college student and make alterations of the original, that many can find offensive. Tim Tebow is proud of his christian faith, but in no way wants to have himself be seen in the same vein as Jesus Christ."

Ummmm... it's ok for you to feel uneasy or offended. It's not a big deal. I don't think Tebow needs to apologize or say anything just to make you feel better. What is this world coming to? Someone makes me feel uneasy so now they need to address the world and apologize.

Yes that's exactly what I meant. Good call. Because you know, I'm the only person in America who doesn't like that picture and wishes Tebow would stop pulling shitty stunts like that.

I'm not just talking about you. I'm talking about anyone who shares your viewpoint. Tebow doesn't owe any of you an apology (like you stated he should do) for this photo.

I also didn't say he OWED anyone an apology, I just simply stated that I would have more respect for him if he did say something like that.

I find him very hypocritical. He's constantly trying to paint this picture that his faith is personal and genuine to himself, not trying to push it onto others. Also trying to say he's just man and not to compare himself to Jesus, yet he's posing as if he is Jesus on the cross in pictures! I would think that a genuine devout Christian would recognize themselves as a sinner and would never want to be seen in the same light as Jesus. Tebow doesn't feel that way?

Not to mention he's making alot of $$ and will continue to make a lot more on the whole religion thing. Nothing wrong with that, but he should own up to it and stop acting nieve about it.

I don't think he has to apologize for anything it just pisses me off because you can't have it both ways. If he's gonna be that schmuck Pat Robertson 700club fool then BE him. If he's just going to be a devout Christian football player, then BE him. But don't insult the intelligence of the American public by trying to be both.

Man, what are you talking about? It is a photograph. One photograph in a pose.

Tebow is nothing like Pat Robertson. Don't even know why you would make that assertion.

For what it's worth, Tebow had some things to say about it today...

So if it was 6 years ago that would put him at around 19 years old...Can't really hold him too accountable at that age, but he refutes the intentions of trying to do a "crucifix" pose anyway...
