Tebow was horrible today. The thing that made me laugh was when Rich Gannon was like, "Why pull Sanchez off the field when he's feeling it, it takes a strong character to go through that..." What the fuck does it matter which QB is in the game if the next play is going to be a hand off anyway?
Just because he didn't pass out of it today doesn't mean that he won't later and teams have to gameplan for that
Tebow didn't do much today, but to call it a poor fit after one game, considering his rushing stats for his career is ridiculous.
Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN Sanchez on using Tebow in wildcat: "That's just the tip of the iceberg. We haven't seen everything" He says more in NYJ "grab bag" #nyj
I thought it worked out well, someone has to take some carries from Greene. Tebow misread the end on one read option. If he had handed it off to Greene it would have been a bigger gain. I thought they put him in a position where he excels, running the read option. Greene and Tebow just need to run the ball well enough to let the jets balance their run/pass ratio.
I wasn't actually expecting the Jets to use the Wildcat at all against the Bills. I don't even think it should be called the Wildcat, honestly. But they used it against the Bills, a team that has David Lee on their CS, and it was ineffective. This just may have been a decoy, because I didn't see much spread going on there and I didn't see much innovation going on either. It may as well have been a Brad Smith formation, without Brad Smith. This doesn't mean anything. The Jets beat the Bills with zero trickery. They're going to go heavy against the uber-aggressive Steelers. See if I'm wrong.
Which would go along with what I said, they kept it vanilla because they didn't need to show their hand.
I think you are dead on with the decoy statement. I don't think Sparano showed anything today with regards to how they plan on using Tebow, why would he? with Sanchez playing outstanding at the QB position why would a guy who thus far has played his cards close to the vest show anything. I think the few plays they ran were to remind the next team they better prepare, and hence waste their time. I don't think you see any innovative playcalling with Tebow unless Sanchez struggles. Ideally they only put Tebow out there to remind other teams he is there so the next team wastes time preparing and Sanchez steps up and wins games with out any need for Tebow. Sanchez plays the rest of the year like he did this game you guys are in great shape. As for Tebow, the running was mediocre, but he recovered the kick so contributed more than 99% of the backup QB's did this week, give him a break. In short happy for Sanchez and the Jets, good win
I agree with this. With the defense scoring, the special teams scoring, and the offense clicking there was no need to show much of anything in the playbook. I was pleased with what I saw from Sporano and I was a bit concerned going into this game today. I expect there is plenty we haven't seen and more that will be developed as the season progresses.
Great Fit! Jets score the most points they have in years. Forces other teams to be ill-prepared for what the Jets will be doing on offense. Genius acquisition of Tebow pays off huge. A team can only spend so much time preparing each week. This wasn't even half the Wildcat offense in action today. This will be expanding as the season goes on when required.
On account that the Jets scored the most points they ever had in an opener , I would leave everything the way it is .
good lord. One game and some are already throwing darts at the wildcat ballon. whats the matter a 20point laugher win wasn't enough. Sanchise was sharp as a tack, balls were on target and very little QB pressure exerted by the Bills. Fitzy was terrible, the D was strong when it had to be (note: slight concern about poor tackling of Spiller--ya gotta bring that medicore runner down) Lam
I don't think the team has shown much of the future plans. I did like the way Tebow going in and out was so seamless early on, the Bills had no time to adjust. A few hangups later on, the in and out created some confusion, but it was only week one.
I do hate the laziness of calling it the Wildcat, since it's almost always a read option, and since he's actually a quarterback by trade. I think the Jets just wanted to use it enough to keep the Bills guessing offensively. I have a feeling we'll see it used a lot this year in this fashion. As the season progresses, they'll give Tebow more and more of this part of the playbook to learn. First, he had to learn the actual offense. The Tebow package in this game was full of pretty basic plays, all things considered. I expect that to change depending on gameplan and how well Sanchez is playing. It was a good decision not to let Tebow throw in this game. With Sanchez playing so well, having him turn the ball over would be a disaster, and if he made a big play, it would add to a QB controversy.
Hey thanks. Good talk man. The offense is working as intended. Let's change it because 34 points out of the offense is not acceptable. /tool
You realize we won today right..... Give yourself a chance to enjoy just a little bit. I guess the 48 points, interceptions, big hits and in the end the absolute dismantling of the " vaunted " bills defense doesn't do anything for you.....Jesus Christ
Mark was on point today. There was no need for that much of the bullshit Wildcat. Tebow did nothing, the plays they called were worthless. I fucking hate the Wildcat.
