Wilson is our nickle Corner. In a pass happy league he see the feild alot. Is being groomed to start along Revis someday. Very good in press coverage and uses his hands well. Not the most physically imposing guy and has not displayed great ball skills at this level. Sanchez is up and down, but has started everygame since his draft day. Gholsot is a bust. Keller has been a good, but not great TE for us. I'd love to see what he could do in an offense that runs him up the seasom more often. He's big and fast with good hands. Its nice that you want to leave out Brick and Mangold, also Mo Wilk all who were a day one starters. Looking only at what you consider bad and ignoring all the good is a very bad way to make your argument. Any intelligent person reading it can see what your doing. Yes we need a infusion of talent and speed to our defense, front 7 being the area of focus. Your not saying anything original by stating the obvious. Your also making a weak argument to try to defend your OP instad of looking at the whole picture. There are several ways you could attack how this team was built, but not last years draft were we added to huge young men to our D line.
TALK ABOUT HINDSIGHT IS 20/20 THREAD. Falco, my friend, you're digging yourself in a hole you won't be able to come out.
This is all anyone needed to say, Different defenses require different things at certain positions. One gap dl can make plays that two gaps dls can't. That said, the entire thread itself is pretty pointless.
If he falls the Jets will probably look into it but it'd cost at least out 2nd and 4th. Depending on how FA goes it may be worth it but we need depth in the worst way
I think the note should read: 'it is easier to assess a rookie after he has played for a year in the NFL than at draft day' end of note
I haven't seen enough of Blackmon: did he just come on at the end, or is he a legit Calvin Johnson/Andre Johnson type WR ?
other than Gholston Tanny has done a HOF job of drafting in the first (and frankly all rounds) since 2006 when it became his job. Especially when you take into account his being locked into the 28 and 29 spots the last two seasons the OP is the one that needs to take some notes
As much as I'd like to see Blackmon on the Jets, you have to be kidding!!!! Trade up??? Have you not been paying attention? That's the reason there was no OL depth last year and why the safeties suck and why they have multiple glaring needs. If Tanny trades up this year, he should be fired immediately following the draft.
You just listed 2 defensive players. One was a huge bust and the other is solid corner who will likely continue to develop into a high level guy. what point are you trying to make?
Is everyone still convinced that our defense is the problem? Sure, it could be better, but we should be drafting for offense this year. Our defense finished 5th in the league. Not nearly as bad as everyone is making out. Clearly, offense was our biggest issue this season. If we don't draft a receiver, we should get a RT. We don't need a pass rusher. We have Pace / Maybin / Westerman and they are fine for the system we have in place. We DO need a RT, we could use a safety, we could possibly use an ILB. Everything else is in place on D. If offense isn't the prime focus this off season, I'm going to be annoyed.
I would say (and correct me if I'm wrong) that the upcoming draft is one of the most important drafts in Jets history.
he shouldn't be the guy calling the shots in the first place. bring in a consultant/football guy like tuna, wolf, or casserly to make the actual decisions.
I don't know why more people don't harp on this! When Tannenbaum was first brought in, he was brought in for his great financial mind and ability to work the cap. He is VERY good at this. He was NOT brought in to evaluate talent and build the team! Why then does he assume these responsibilities all to himself now??? To me, I want to keep him on board because he is very good at what he does. However, I want them to bring in somebody else to help him with the draft and building the team. Why he spent a whole week on Nmamdi this offseason I will never understand.
Unbelievable. We don't need a pass rusher. You are clueless, my friend, and should seriously consider another sport if you really think that. Yes, the D was 5th in the league, but how many times were they not able to get off the field on 3rd down? How many TOs did they create to give the Jets points or better field position? How often were they able to generate consistent pressure to cause incompletions by opposing QBs? Already Tanny has spent almost 2x as many of his draft picks on offensive players as he has defensive. Still, the Jets do need a RT, a WR, and quite possibly a RB, TE and OG. No one is saying that those needs shouldn't be addressed, but OLB is the major need with Thomas probably gone and Pace set to be gone within another year or two. OLBs take some time to develop. Maybin is only a role player (situational pass rusher) and not an every down OLB. Neither is Westermann.
