Please don't take this as an arguement, just playing devil's advocate. 1.) Hunter had a horrible year last year, and it was blamed on Schotty and Callahan. We replaced them with a known offensive line coach who has had success. 2.) Braylon was cut by a weak WR corp in San Fran, Winston was after we guaranteed Hunters salary, and we got Bell and Landry. 3.) I personally like the draft we had, and especially the emphasis on Safety late. We picked up an extremely raw, and gifted WR, and a top 5 pick without moving up. We don't know how our LB corp will be, and if preseason is a sign, I am happy. Hunter is an epic fail, and we will see what is done now. I really like what I have seen from turner, Kerley should make progress, we have a potential star at TE, and a potential up and comer in Hill. Notice I have left out Holmes who only adds to it.
There's been exactly one losing season under Tannenbaum. The Jets also have a very good head coach in place under Rex Ryan. It would be a shame to tear that apart now. This whole thread reminds me of this article:
Great post & I agree. Continuity is key. Being a GM is like a puzzle..and some years the pieces just aren't gonna fit. Happens to all teams including New England,Pittsburgh & the Giants. The most important things are having good scouts, good facilities, good medical staff, & a solid core belief system. Jets have gone a long way over the last 3-4 years to create more of an identity. I think there are good things ahead, regardless of how this year projects. Jet fans have this "Championship this year or die" mentality. And yes, it's been a long time since they won one..but c'mon. Only one team out of 32 can win it ion any given year. Jets have been close. Just gotta keep knocking.
The only way the Jets win a Super Bowl under this regime is for the perfect conjunction of events to arise. There will have to be 3 or 4 impact veterans all available in a given year. The Jets will have to spend a huge amount of money, with the cap space to make it happen, to bring them on board. The Jets will have to avoid major injuries, losing no more than a couple of key players over the course of that season. That's the formula that setup 2009 and 2010. It's the only formula that Tannenbaum has demonstrated that he has a grasp of. It's a formula that destroys itself over a very short span of years after you try it. I'd rather go for the good drafting, balanced team management, and occasional free agent acquisition to enhance the team's strengths that has lead to 4 Super Bowl wins for the Steelers and Giants, but I'd settle for Tanny's plan done very well. Right now we're dealing with the hangover from the last cycle of that plan. It's not at all clear that Tanny has a clue as to how to flush out the waste and start it all up again though.
There's a hangover, yes, but by no means is this a rebuilding era, either. And don't give the Giants TOO much credit, they've won their last two Super Bowls with the help of a 1st overall pick. I know they traded a lot (which actually should help my point further) but they still had to be bad enough for the 4th pick. Plus they had 9 losing seasons in a row before drafting Lawrence Taylor 2nd overall. For better or worse, acting as we have towards an 8-8 season shows pretty clearly that we're in the golden era of Jets football right now.
Actually tanny can't be blamed for not drafting a great tackle in the draft this past year cause great teams draft the BPA which he did.He drafted a DE in 11' and 12' cause they were the BPA.And he got a steal with hill in the second. He could have drafted j.martin but he went with the better player. That's how you win in this league and I for one think he figured that out recently.I loved his last draft and I think 3 or 4 good players will be solid to great.
casserly started in houston with an expansion team! it figured to take at least 5 years to get to average. meanwhile, how many times have polihan's teams won a division title? how many conference champoinships/trips to super bowl? has he won a super bowl? was he caught cheating like bellicheat? compare his record to tannybum and/or bradway. you tell me who's results are better!
i don't care! you are what your record says you are. see the post by me above. what is polihan's record? built the bills, panthers, and colts into super bowls. what has tannybum/bradway done?
see the two posts above/ some " morons" can actually compare records and pick out the correct answer!
Tanne and Rex arent on the same page its quite obvious. 2009-2010 the teams were loaded with talent and things fell into place. We lost players and the replacements arent doing what they're supposed to be doing.
pending how the 53 man roster shapes up one could make a valid argument that Tanny could be fired this coming offseason. but i dont have the energy to presently make that argument.
the short term/quick fix/ hold-the-fort strategy only works for a couple of years. at some point , you have to move to stockpiling draft picks, developing players, and that means scouting . the giants, steelers, pats with bellicheat do this. at first, bellicheat used the free agent/veteran stuff to get immediate results, but also started stockpiling picks and developing players. he even traded drew bledsoe to another team in the the afc east to get another 1st round pick. only other guy with the balls to do that was andy reid. wonder why those all teams beat ours when it counts a lot more often than we care to admit?
thanks for stating the obvious - any GM or can be fired any off season. That still doesn't mean its likely to happen or worth discussing w/regard to a GM that has been to the CG 2 out of the past 3 seasons.
How did u win the most knowledgeable poster award with a shit statement like that?? Jets haven't put in a competitive team since 2010, yet they were 8-5 in mid December 2011 when Sanchez started playing hurt...and it showed. Bad news is, you can't have it both ways. If you want a top notch D, you won't have a top notch O. Biggest mistake Tanny made this year. But he is trying to fix. Im sure Rex and Sparano had a lot of input in keeping Hunter though. So Tanny realized we needed a WR. He drafted the best available WR with his 2nd pick. Whats the issue here? You wanted him to sign Vincent Jackson? Im glad you figured that out watching pre season games. From what I've heard, Hill was matched up against Revis on several occasions and made plays in the TC. Tebow doesn't feel the pressure? I guess thats why he scrambles on half of the plays. And I don't think we traded for Tebow to be a pocket passer. BTW, that single wing you talk about, worked all of last season for Denver. I guess we didn't draft Manning. If shit was that simple, I wonder how on earth he made it to two AFCCGs. Seriously, why are you so critical of the Jets? Can we wait for a regular season game at least? This Jets offense is going to struggle to score 300 points this year. Actually I think they're going to struggle to score 250. Only 7 teams scored less than 300 points last season. Rams, chiefs, Browns, Colts, Jags, Bucs and Redskins. Some real shitty teams there. Jets scored 377. And you want to tell me that Jets will struggle to score more than those bunch after watching two pre-season games? Again, this was by far your worst post on TGG.
Apparently, Eli played at an Elite level last year. Giants won 9 games. I guess if Eli didn't play at an Elite level, Giants would be a 6-10 team. So much for stock piling picks. Pats are one hit away from being really tested what they are really worth. Last time it happened, they missed the playoffs, and that too with a decent QB. Steelers are getting old defensively. DeCastro struggled in camp and so did Mike Adams. People like to lick their balls about everything they do. They'll have two rookies starting this year. Soon we'll find out how that works out for them.
