Sorry I cannot remember one game where he wreck havoc on the other team no matter if it was 4-3 or 3-4. I attribute his lack of dominance to either his ability is far less then we thought or his knees just limit what he can & cannot do. IMHO he would bring at best a 3rd or lower since he has shown really nothing but being a very, very average DLman with super bad knees
Do you know what a TV is? Its possible now to actually watch football games on TV. I know, i couldnt believe it either.
I'm not so sure about that. You could well be right, however to a team like Cincinnati he'd have a lot of value right now. In a 4-3 he's a pretty good DT and he doesn't have the bust-risk that's associated with any draft pick, even a high one.
your dreaming if you think we can get 2 high first round picks Branch will likely be gone by 15... Carriker is gone at 11...no way he slips past the niners
i think he is saying that 3-4 nose tackles hardly ever win defensive player of the week(which DROB has), Im pretty sure that means he wrecke havoc...so to say you havent seen him do so is pretty moronic....and typical
Wow so he wreck havoc one time & every other time he was a blah is discarded is that what you are saying
you dont watch any football games, thats all im saying. i think all or most of D-Rob's tackles came RIGHT AT THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE. so how can you say he hasnt done anything special? he dominated several pro bowl centers and guards last season. he won the defensive player of the week award...now tell me when was the last time a 3-4 NT received such an award? you're just another hater who obviously cant stand the fact that D-Rob is doing a great job out there...whatever
probably because they have no idea what theyre talking about. thats like saying "oh if we had tomlinson we would have the best running game in the nfl". thats bullshit. its much more complex than that. defensive ends (the two combined) are more important than a NT in the 3-4. you need guys that can take on double teams. guys that can block up to 4 guys. LT/LG and RG/RT. thats the case in san diego, thats the case in pittsburgh, thats the case in new england. its not the case in dallas, even though they have a pretty good NT in ferguson. it doesnt matter how good or big your NT is, he will only be able to block 2 guys. jamal williams, wilfork, hampton and company, they rarely get double teamed. why? because o-lines have to double team guys like richard seymour, aaron smith, luis castillo, olshansky etc as well. so in SD, PIT, NE...only like 1 guard makes it to the second level to block a linebacker. have you watched ellis and oelhoffen play? they dont get double teamed at all. for christs sake, ellis gets dominated by tight ends. robertson gets double teamed on virtually every play. what do you expect him to do? take on 4 blockers on every down? are you nuts? you could put king kong in the middle and it wouldnt change a bit. we need our defensive ends to take some pressure off of robertson. we added coleman and he looks like a big, strong guy who should be able to take on double teams. great. that leaves us with shitty uh i mean shaun ellis at LE...
Yep, it's one or the other. Either Vilma needs a better NT or D-Rob needs better ILB's because something was not working last year on the run defense. The pass rush picked up some as they got 18 sacks in the last 6 games on their way to the playoffs. However they had the Raiders, the Bills, the Vikings, the Texans and the Dolphins on the schedule in those 6 games. Those were among the most sacked teams in the league. Even against them the pass rush was not formidable.
By year's end I believe they were 2 of our better players. Both made alot of strides and showed their worth. W/ that said, at the beginning of the year neither were playing well, and by mid year, Vilma was still over-pursuing and not using proper technique. So if you're gonna blame one of them..I'd blame Vilma. I whole-heartedly believe that if you watch the tape of the last 8 games or so, that D rob was our best player in the front 7.
The biggest difference between being a 4-3 MLB and a 3-4 ILB is the responsibility to maintain your lane in the latter role. A 4-3 MLB is supposed to be all over the place making tackles. A 3-4 ILB has a specific lane to defend and can't afford to freelance to the same extent that a 4-3 MLB can. There's another ILB standing next to him and between them they backstop the front 7. In theory Vilma could adapt to this role just as well as he did the 4-3. The only problem is that his speed is no longer the huge asset that it used to be and his lack of punishing hits now becomes a bit of a liability. Somebody has to be popping people in the middle of the field and the NT is unreliable due to the constant double teams. That means the 2 ILB's and the strong safety really need to put a lick on people when they get the chance.
So U R saying the majority of people on this board have no idea what they are talking about? If I understand U correctly ur view is the DEs suck which makes DeW look bad also & there is no need for a NT. Is that correct?
DeW maybe was OUR best DL buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut compare to the rest of the league they made him into unprime chop meat or to say another way a very, very, very average DL
simple answer...because Drob is a much better pass rusher then a run stuffer...he doesnt have the size of power to take up multiple blockers at the point of attack...thus allowing an extra blocker to make it to the second level and engage Vilma...
