I agree the fines are ridiculous. my point to the OP was I that i understood why Woody/Tanny didn't come to the defense of Rex, because his guilt was apparent. What's being doled out for fines is another topic completely.
When Rex is eventually fired - as happens to all coaches who don't win it all - his unprofessional 'behavior' will be hinted. The 'change of direction' speech will include the reference to the image that should be projected by the head coach. It should be a source of pride to the franchise and NFL - not embarrassment. Try to imagine who would hire Rex for his next job - no higher than a coordinator.
Someone should review the broadcast and identify the fn Jets fan that heckled Rex and make a wanted dead or alive poster with his face on it with a $75,000 reward. Or just find the dude at the next game and punch him in the face. Then punch his wife and kids too. The follow him home and kick his dog.
The problem I have with this whole damn thing is , as always it's all one sided. Why is it so wrong for a coach or player to speak there mind, when being called out by some drunken asshole... This is the same reason many familes can no longer attend live games, because a great deal of most teams fan base, who attend the llive games, use them as an excuse to act out. By that I mean get falling down drunk , even before the game, then get into fights, curse out who ever crosses there path and grenerally act like the assholes they are.... I am sorry but, i would have fined Rex about 5K for the remark, and not a dime for the MMA remark and or justure made while off clock.. Just when is the fan base to be held accountable, hell people are now being killed at football and baseball games, that's how out of hand this type of behavior has become.. .It's about time the sane sober folks start standing up for what's right and just tell the drunken assholes to " Shut the fuck up"...!
so you are saying they fix the fans getting drunk and swearing and fighting and acting like assholes by fining rex 5k? listen anytime a head coach tells a paying fan to go fuck themselves the league is going to fine them heavily. this being the second time rex has gone and told someone to fuck themselves it was naturally a higher penalty. goodell is the biggest piece of shit in the world and will harm the game of football tremendously by the time he is done, but seriously guys are we really bitching about rex getting fined for acting like a jerk? and what exactly the fuck are tannenbaum and woody supposed to say to stick up for their coach?
He's a coach he is held to a higher degree there is a lack of self control. Like stated before he a a branch of the NFL so ya He will be fined more then players regardless of salary
I see both sides of the story here but tend to lean towards give me a break on the amount of the fines. I get he represents the team and the NFL and he should be bigger then that but.... There has to be something good to say about a NY Jets coach from the old school of a nasty abrasive football mentality. And in something I mean good. Do we really want to see football turn into a sport where we have plastic cut and paste response from players and coaches (we see that enough already). IM not saying to give a thumbs up to some of the silly publicity (hello bull riding) or give a green light to tell someone to F off for no reason. But if someone (especially a drunken fool) gets in your face or yelled at you wouldn't you tell him to get lost or shut the hell up. I understand the fine, just not the amount. We all get a little nuts at the game and scream things out to the players, coaches etc.... As long as your not hurting anyone or crossing the line by getting personal (hi Wes Welker)..C'mon this is football, everyone pick up your skirt.
Well fuckin said. I don't necessarily agree with the OP's point that Woody and Tanny should have come out in support of Rex - that's just not going to happen from a business perspective. But seriously, this PC bullshit is getting to be way over the top. The MMA fine was totally ridiculous. Just because he's an NFL coach he has to be the face of the league any time he's in public even when he's doing something completely unrelated to football? Let the guy be himself for christ sake. I can understand the league coming down on him for the incident that happened in the stadium (even though the amount was crazy), but what's up with this pussyfied attitude coming from a sport that's based on guys getting on a field and beating the shit out of each other for 60 minutes?
ok so you and your boss go to a party filled with current and prospective clients. you decide to tell someone to go fuck themselves in front of EVERYONE and it ends up on youtube the next day with your name, your bosses name and the name of the company in highlights joe schmoe from widgets international tells everyone to go fuck themselves. is your boss going to think thats great or is he going to realize that this is not the image that your company wants to have front page in the next trade magazine.
I don't know if Tanny & Woody could publicly support Rex w/out starting another separate shit storm Besides, we don''t know what goes on behind closed doors...(e.g., Woody gives $$$ money back to Rex?)
What happened to freedom of speach? It might just be me, but I have cursed or lashed out at my workplace because I was upset a time or two. So, nobody does this? Or.. Is it just not ok because Rex is part of the Ol' Mighty NFL? If the latter, that is a bullshit excuse. I have seen almost every coach at some point lash out in anger and say something that was fairly inaapropiate for the standard "NFL". It's just stupid. All I'm saying, if Goodell wants to be like that then he should at least be consistent with it. Goodell is horrible for the NFL in so many ways. Nothing he does leads me to believe otherwise.
