I don't need him to tell us what they're going to do next, but its pretty bad when Francesa turns into Mike Wallace and exposes you as a fucking liar. Tannenbaum: This decision was not based on the last 5 weeks, it's been a year long process. Francesa: So the last 5 weeks had nothing to do with it? Tan: That's right. Fran: But after the Tennessee game, I understand you were contemplating giving Mangini an extension. Tan: (Stumbling) That's right. Fran: So why did you fire him? If you were going to extend in week 11, and you're firing him in Week 17 and it wasn't the last 5 games, why is he gone? Tannebaum is a bigger joke than Mangini.
Will Tannenbaum at least show us his birth certificate? :rofl2: Hey heading into the season, Mangini had one good and one bad season. A lot of people thought that he needed two out of three to last here, and it wasnt just two out of three over .500, he needed another playoff appearance. In three years, we got ONE away playoff game. That's no home playoff games for Woody, who btw is a capitalist. Not that there's anything wrong with that. There isnt. Woody is certainly more qualified to own this team than Caroline Kennedy is to be a senator. We dont know if she's a capitalist becuase she never had a real job. She did graduate from law school, but so have a lot of bottom feeders. In 06, the team finished 6-2 after the bye and then got spiked out of the POs by the Pats. Pennington had an outstanding season and things fell into place with a favorable schedule. One and done in the POs, though. In 07 the patsies went 16-0, which made the Jets' 1-8 start not too appetizing for the Owner. This came in the wake of Cameragate, and a very disruptive TC with the Kendall fiasco, which at the time was a huge deal. It really was. it knocked the team off-stride, and the HC never got it back. Bender? LLOL! Then he had the Vilma controversy, and there was grumbling in the locker room at various points in the season from several sources. So they ended up a dismal 4-12. So now we go for two out of three- and Woody the capitalist spends a shitload of money improving weak areas of the team. Faneca, Woody, Jenkins, Pace. He had already gotten TJ after trying a few other guys who couldnt fill the hole left by Martin's retirement, he guaranteed Coles' money, and then got Favre. So there were some expensive pieces in place, and the third year needed to produce some payback for the Woodman. He wanted more than selling Favre jerseys. At 8-3 and after beating the Tians, things were looking pretty good, and no one's job was in jeopardy. Fast forward five weeks later- 9-7, home for the holidays, no income producing home playoff games, no division title, just penguin excrement all over the place. But here's the thing. The Man sets the bar, not the fans, and not the coaches, and apparently that bar was set at making the playoffs, and getting a home playoff game. That didnt happen. So we got one measley road playoff game in three years which produced no income for Woodster, and he wanted a better return on his investment, especially if the grumbling was true (which I have been saying all along it was- there was plenty of disharmony in Mangina's lockerroom) and he wasnt really very popular with a lot of the guys, and definitely wasnt motivating them to play balls to the walls on Sundays, regardless of how well or shitty they practiced during the week. Something had to give, and it was the HC's job. So sayonara, shalom, au revoir, see ya, hasta luego, ciao, and no, you wont be back anytime soon. Exit stage right, and bring in the next auditioner.
A lot of mind reading going on here, this is my attempt at this dubious task: Tannenbaum talked Woody into getting this idiot. Eventually even Tannenbaum realized how bad Mangini was and so Tanny back stabbed Eric to save his own job. I've been saying this since last year, eventually Tanny was going to realize that its easier to get a new friend than a new job.
Or.... Maybe they got a call from Coach Cowher early in the season and the conversation went something like: Cowher: "Hey Woody, I like the players you have in place. I think I could make that team a winner!" Woody: "Wow! Really, Bill?! You'd be willing to come here?" Cowher: "Yeah, definitely!" Woody: "Awesome! We'll let Eric finish out the year, considering we should only win about 8 games, and there's no way we catch those Brady-led Patriots." Fast forward to the hours following the Tennessee game, as Tannenbaum sits in Woody's office: Woody: "Well, we have an issue now don't we? I promised the job to Cowher, but it's kind of hard to argue with Eric's success." Tanny: "Yeah. He's had a great year. The guys are really behind him and playing well." Woody: "I guess we should start thinking about extending him. It would be suicide if we fire him after winning the Super Bowl." Tanny: "Yup." Fast foward to the minutes following the Dolphins game: Woody: "Sonovabitch!!!! Someone get Bill on the line and ask him if he can be in his new office by New Year's!!!" It's so much fun to speculate isn't it?
The Jets don't even disclose if somebody on the team has a cavity and you expect Tannenbaum to say something definitive about the firing. It will never happen.
