It really seems like the games vs Jax / Houston will determine who gets the #1 pick. Miami will absolutely finish with more wins than us. The Jets have 3 or 4 "winnable" [I use that word lightly] games left. Miami 2x, Houston, & Jacksonville. I know the draft has some funky tie breaker rules so I'm not sure if H2H matchups come into play here or not, but it might not matter if we only have 1 or 2 wins on the season.
I'm going to assume you probably haven't watched as much Detroit Lions football as I have (not that it's a good thing to admit or watch ), but I have watched my fair share because hundreds of people pick against them in my survivor pool so I always have them on one of the TVs. People mocked the hell out of them for hiring Dan Campbell and then the entire kneecap biting thing over the offseason didn't go over well, but they play extremely hard for that coach. They are in every single game until the final moments of each game. They lost on a 61 yard FG to Baltimore. They were down 28ish points week 1 against SF and fought back in an insane comeback. Yesterday they were down 25-19 with 4ish minutes and Goff threw a terrible pick in the redzone. That team is light years better than the shit we put on the field every week. The Lions still have games against: Philly @Pitt @Cle Chicago Minny @Denver @atl Those are all winnable games for them IMO. @Pitt/@Cle are definitely tougher games, but do you really trust Big Ben and who knows how Bakers shoulder is going to hold up the rest of the year? They have more winnable than us and only have 1 less win - so yes, I do think that is a good reason the Lions can get at least 2, maybe 3 wins.
I was just asking about the Lions in the NFL forum, I have to admit I haven't paid any attention to them this year but I thought Dan Campbell was entertaining as hell. That meltdown after the Vikings game was a little weird but I guess you can chalk that up to Football Guy being Football Guy. Thanks for the insight.
I'm going to also assume you've watched more Lions football than I have (no apologies- if you're still in your survivor pool, you're doing better than I) but I do know that their net points is -72, almost as bad as the -75 of the Jets. None of the teams they face are close to as bad. Of course winning no games is even harder than winning one or two, the blind squirrel thing happens, but other than some fluke I can't see any good reason to assign any wins, much less two or more. Thanks for your thoughts.
Chances are we are picking 1. Detroit will wine one or two. Jacksonville will beat us. Will come down to Texans vs us. Need to hope Matt Corrall continues to play well and could maybe trade for a few first rounders. But, Thibideuax is probably the guy with two OL picks after that with Hawks pick and rd2.
the Lions are close every week. They should already have 2 wins, it took historic FG finishes to beat them. They also have a coach that the players will play hard for every week. they will definitely have 2,3,4 wins before this is over. Probably beat the Eagles Sunday, Bears on thanksgiving, maybe they beat someone like the Vikings or Falcons or Seahawks
I also give them a chance with Philly and Chicago and possibly Atlanta but that's it. Of course this all depends on what the Jets do as well. The 5 - 12 I originally predicted is down to maybe 3 - 14 at best. I had called for a win against the Bengals then a three week win streak starting in Miami before losing out. Now I think Miami is a loss and Houston and Philly are tossups. So far I'm right on track with the one win, even if I traded Tennessee for Atlanta. We'll have to see what Jacksonville does too.
You're totally correct and logical in thinking the jaguars will beat the jets however...the real question is "what's the jetsiest way to have a very bad season?" and that would be to win just enough to keep them from getting the player/draft spot they really need/want. TL/DR They will win just enough stupid games to rinse and repeat this neverending cycle. J-E-T-S FML
if we want to pick number 1, which sadly this game we end up playing every year now, the team to worry about is Houston. I dont think they win again. Maybe they beat a Mike White-led Jets team but I doubt it
If Wilson is out for 2-6 weeks that means we have Mike White starting vs Cinci, Colts + potentially vs Bills, Miami, Texans (Sounds like Tyrod will be back soon, maybe this week), and Philly. I doubt we win any of those games with Mike White at the helm. Only games left after those 6 that we can probably win would be @Mia or Jax.
Unfortunately, head to head results are not part of the draft order formula…this has bitten us several times in the past where we ended up picking behind a team that beat us that year. Stupid rule as nothing is a better indication of which team is better than, you know, actually beating them on the field of play… But in any case, the draft order is determined by record and then the first tie breaker for teams with the same record is Strength of Schedule…the team with the easier schedule picking ahead of the team with the same record against a harder schedule. This is why Jacksonville held the advantage over us last year if we would have ended up with the same record. but at this rate, the way we’re playing we could definitely end up with the worst record…I agree Detroit has been in more games than we have, losing a couple of close ones. We’ve been blown out almost every game. Houston is still a top contender for the top pick, and Miami is making a nice run at it too, but I do think Miami will win a couple more games, including beating us. I think it’s a two team race for the top pick between us and Houston….I’ve seen absolutely nothing out of this team that gives me any confidence that we will turn it around….sure, injuries have been a huge part of it for sure, and maybe we improve down the road once we get Jarrod Davis, CJ, Zach, Becton, and others back, but we’ll see… this fucking team, until they actually show us something on the field, they don’t instill any rational reason to hope…
I'll be at that one. I was hoping during the summer that I'd be watching Watson wearing the green against one of the rookies.
Mike White wasn't terrible - let's see what he does with the new OC. The Jets are getting a new OC, right?
wouldn't it be SOMETHING if white comes and and plays like most expected wilson to play.......and in turn creates a bit of a controversy. or worse - perhaps the pats just had there mo lewis/judon moment. LLOOLL.
TBH I couldn't tell the difference between having White play vs having Wilson's play. I could have been in the bathroom and missed the injury and never noticed we made a switch.
