We were in this position last year and we didn't get a bounty. We should have had the package the Fins got for the #3 for our #2.
I was in the minority camp of wanting Chase with a slightly lower pick, then taking Lance with our second 1st rounder, but that obviously wasn't happening.
If we weren't so inflexible we could have traded down to six, then down to 12, then down to 20 - all of which happened for other teams. We would have gotten around 8 high round picks, including 4 firsts, just to move down to pick 20. After pick 12 we would have had the ammo to maneuver anywhere we wanted (AVT, Jones, both, you name it) and still made out like bandits.
They didn’t get a bounty last year because JD wanted Zach. They would have probably gotten at least what Miami got for #3 maybe even another lower round pick thrown in.
Getting Kayvon Thibideoux would be fantastic for this franchise. He would become our best player in year 1. The dude is a beast--I've seen him play. Need 3 men to block him and not even kidding.... We have always missed out on the truly elite players. We've been horrible but never horrible enough. Missed out on Chase Young, Myles Garret, Nick Bosa, Trevor Lawrence etc. We are like the most irrelevant team ever and can't even lose right. We don't have 1 even remotely elite player on the team--not one. Through the years we at least had a guy here or there to hang our hats on--Martin, Revis, Marshall, LT, Ferguson, etc.--there's nobody on this team I'm really in love with. I don't understand how this team has any jersey sales--nobody would even know the name. You think anyone outside this organization knows who Franklin -Myers is? Fant? Fatukasi? Maybe Mosely? But the dude hasn't played the previous 2 years--great players don't disappear for 2 years of their career.
I’m not ready to give up on Becton yet. His injury history is a little troubling and he may turn out to be a better fit for RT but we’ll see.
He would be perfect at RT--if we miss out on Kayvon....maybe you go Neal and Linderbaum Neal, Vera-Tucker, Linderbaum, Free Agent?, Fant
I like it but I think Becton is better for RT than Fant. Fant can hang around as the 6th OL - you need a solid back up at T in case of injury see Becton opening day. But Neal and Linderbaum would be a dream come true.
Another Seahawks loss to a team they probably would have beat with Wilson helps make that dream more of a reality, depending how the season plays out I could see the Jets taking Neal with their pick and Linderbaum with the Hawks pick Teller and Scherff are slated to be Free Agents after this season, would be clear cut top priority targets and if they miss out on those two, Corbett or Cappa could be solid alternatives.
After last night Miami win we are now picking at 3 and 11 - we should have some good choices there http://www.tankathon.com/nfl
Becton is a better fit for a man blocking scheme. It doesn't matter what position he plays in this scheme, he will be an injury waiting to happen.
Becton probably needs to lose 30 lbs to have any real shot at a long career. That much weight floating around in space is just an injury waiting to happen on any play. 6'7" 330 gives him a shot at playing LT in the NFL for a decade. The 365+ he's at now is unsupportable (literally).
I disagree with that. Becton has elite traits for any blocking scheme, it all depends on his ability to stay in shape, develop chemistry with the line, and fully grasp the scheme. There hasn’t been a more scheme universal tackle in terms of physical profile since Tyron Smith that I remember. I also don’t think he’s such an injury risk as people make him out to be. He had a couple of upper body issues last year, which was in a completely different offense anyway. His knee injury came on a play in which I was sure he’d be out for the year, a guy went shoulder first into his knee… There is nothing about that injury that you can blame on Becton’s body makeup. Not to mention it was a pass block rep which wouldn’t be any different in any other offense. I was one of the people pre-draft who specifically stated that humans of his size often have nagging injury issues in certain places, like back, feet, and knees. It’s something to keep in mind but nothing from him so far has been an example of what I feared.
I don’t think so. It’s so funny how the narrative of Becton being on the path to a top LT changed completely in one training camp. The Jets ignored the OL for too long in the past, yes, but how in the world can you be in favor of spending four out of Douglas’ first five 1st round picks on the OL? No offensive line requires four 1st rounders to function.
New offense new blocking scheme. It's easy to see how Becton went from a plus to a questionable. He did play in a zone-blocking scheme in college so he should be able to adjust.
