If I understand things correctly, Mawae was one of the two anonymous Jets who based on Chad, with Fabini being the other. If that is the reason they were cut, then I fully agree with it. Squashing any divisive situations immediately is the absolute correct thing to do. And even if that wasn't the reason, I still don't think it was a bad move.
