Like other posters said, Mawae was a Herm guy who went shooting off his mouth when he took off...and Mangini said, "I'm rebuilding, I don't need this guy, he's gonna be a problem." There was also the problem that Mawae wouldn't restructure.

When you're a new coach rebuilding, you dump old guys that are going to be potential distractions. It wasn't a mistake to dump Mawae at all; we got some cap relief did we not?

It probably didn't help that Mangini used to get coffee for Mawae during his first tour here

We really don't know if Kevin made the comment about Pennington or not? And the comment that he is as fragile as an egg is really not bad mouthing Pennington, I guarantee you if Parcells was Pennington's coach he would have herd worse.

I think they got rid of him because he is over the hill and wouldn't take a pay cut.

You are all missing the point. When Tangini took over they had three players that were no longer going to be part of the Jets, Mawea, JA and Fabini. Why do I say this because Kevin Mawea WAS NEVER ASKED TO TAKE A PAY CUT AND THEY NEVER TRIED TO SIGN JOHN ABRAHAM. They worked a trade for JA and cut Mawea and Fabini. These players were not part of the future for the Jets.

It has been widely reported that the Jets offered JA a long term deal prior to trading him

I think it's been pretty well established that Mawae and Fabini made those comments..they also said that he should be cut...anyone telling me I should be fired is badmouthing, especially when it's partially their fault not picking up their blocks and not playing up to their expectations.
I loved Mawae and his toughness under Herm and pre-injury but time goes on things have changed. Good Luck in Tennessee. When we play them in game 1we should blitz up the middle non-stop!

Parcells probably would not have made a public statement badmouthing his own QB and try to go anonymous

but also see my next post on page 1 concurring with your last sentence

Parcells used to dog Simms all the time when he was hurt. He didn't do it anonymously he was public about it. The comment could have come from Fabini or Sowell, it's really speculation about Mawae. There are people who know Kevin who swear he didn't say it.

Last thing I am is an idiot.

I'm not a believer of this motivator crap. If you can't get yourself motivated to win, you can't win. Noone is going to help you do that but yourself.

In this NFL, it's MUCH BETTER to cut someone 1 yr too early than it is to cut someone 1 yr too late.

This was the right move. His play has declined, even without the injury. Any big NT goes right through him. He stillpulls great, but that's it.

    I don't question leadership... I just think it's BS.

Be that as it may, but Kevin was definitely on the grassy knoll- don't try and convince me otherwise....

I still think Fabini made the comment in the School Depository building and he made the comment when he was alone, that's why nobody herd it. There is no smoking lips here, move along.

It makes me wonder if we are still planning on drafting Mangold. Nick is the only player worthy of taking Mawae's place.

Cutting Mawae was probably Tangini's first really strong and sensible move! There is no way the guy would be a good fit in the new locker room. As so many have said on this subject since the move by the Jets - they didn't want him in their locker room - and he would be a disruptive force and a challenge to the new regime's authority.

Add to it that he wasn't willing to take a pay cut at 34 coming off a major injury...

It was a very smart move...

Mawae was coming off a very serious injury, however you cannot compare old legs with young legs, new blood must be worked into the lineup as required. So far I like what has happened. Damn, I can't wait untill the draft, there are so many possible moves. It will be very interesting. Allentown Ernie.

Its not Manginis decision who stays or goes. That Tannys call. Mangini coaches whoever Tanny gives him.

Kept Fabini? Fabini blows, that was the best move we've made all offseason.

The HC and the GM are tied at the hip. Neither can operate in a vacuum and be effective. The GM makes the final call on personal but to say Mangini coaches whoever Tanny gives him isn't how the real world works. These guys are clearly working together and on the same page.
