Score more points than the other teams offense....Thank you I would like to see them take a few deep shots. I realize it may be coming soon but at least with Braylon they went for 2 or 3 every game.
One thing I have noticed is that Keller has many fewer TD receptions than Gronk. I don't know if there is a particular reason for it, but in general TEs are primo Red Zone targets. It seems to me the Jets should be using their TEs much more in the Red Zone.
Ok, I just skimmed the Dallas game and roughly tallied the offensive plays: 14 inside run plays. Zero runs outside the tackles. No draw plays. 21 passing attempts less than 10 yards, 14 pass attempts greater than 10 yards. 3 screen passes. All successful gains for over 10 yards. One was a very long gain for LT. 2 designed rollouts, Both for completions. Sanchez was not hit or pressured to throw. One went for a TD. All of the hits and sacks that Sanchez took were on straight drop backs, which also resulted in 2 fumbles (1 lost). I skimmed it pretty fast, may have missed a play or two, but it's a representation of what we have been running. The proportion of passing is pretty high for us, but remember we were playing from behind until the last 2 mins of the game, and weren't getting yardage running up the middle.
(1) Do more of what you did that first drive against the Jags; (2) If things get a little stagnant, run the no huddle to pick up the tempo; (3) Totally agree that we need to move Sanchez around more.
We have scored more so far. The deep passes will not work until there is consistent blocking. I'm surprised by the proportion of throws we had over 10 yards. Higher than many teams, it seems.
They didn't anythin special on that first drive. The runs they called didn't do anything and the passes were standard for the jets with the exception of holmes running a triple move on the score. They just executed the pass plays well.
Exactly my point. Holmes coming up a yard short on 3rd down and LT dropping a short dump off pass on 3rd down are examples of drive killing failures to execute. Sustaining long drives is all about execution, and I would like to see us execute better on offense from the start.
2 TE's (Keller,Cumberland) 2WR's (Holmes=slot, Plex/Kerley(wildcat anyone)/Mason)depending on who's hot LT out of the backfield catching or running By the way guess who's back? Berning and Scotty on PS
I wouldn't be surprised to see more 2 tight end sets with Keller and Cumberland- especially this week against OAK's LB's. Sometimes we use Keller in the slot. Seems it's becoming a tight end oriented league, until someone figures out how to stop it.
The main thing I'd like to see more of is moving the pocket and getting Sanchez on the move, where he excels. Stretch plays would be nice too, another play that relies on a QB's athleticism. People do have to keep in mind that some of the plays brought up have a high success rate because of their rare usage, and would definitely diminish if used regularly. (Unlike in Madden)
Seems to be that Sanchez is pretty comfortable on improvised roll outs. Might not be a bad thing to run a bootleg by design from time to time.
If we are going to experiment with the offense it might as well be this week @Oak We can use a vast array of plays, see what works, doesn't work. Also when in certain formations, and shifts, other teams may respect us more. Heaven knows, they don't respect our offense, but they sure as hell respect the Defense and special teams.
I agree- some plays lose effectiveness when run too often. As do 14 inside running plays against zero outside rushing plays. But at this point I think that the predictability of our offense is hurting us. In the Dallas game we had 3 screen passes, all for first downs and one went for around 50 yards. Running 3 more screen passes in a game probably would't be overdoing it and it may even cause the defenses to stop selling out on a blitz so often. Same for roll outs. We had 2 against Dallas, one good for a long first down, one for a TD. If we had 4 more in the plan, the defense might be concerned about containment, rather than just bull rushing up the middle. We had around 35 pass plays and only two roll outs. Success with screens and roll outs can also set up other plays to be more effective.
None of these are exotic plays or not in our playbook. They are football 101. We just don't call them much, and they often bring good results. Then we seem to forget how well they work.
Dustin Keller. Seriously, look how effectively we moved the ball against Dallas and Jacksonville when Sanchez was feeding the ball to Keller.
Yep. Over 100 yards in the last game. Cumberland also had a long gainer in his one target against Dallas.
If Rex can get it out his hard head that our weak OL is not made for long passes and ground and pound, and open up his mindset a little, with the help of Tom, we might have an answer.
In fairness to Ryan, the OL problems were not nearly so bad his first two years, and it's only been two games against a very good team and a team that had its problems on O to be sure, but was decent against the run. More to the point I am sure Ryan is very much aware that the OL has had its problems, especially with Mangold out now.
