Everything I have read this season ranked the Giants offensive line in the top ten. I do agree with the boobery of the CS and the injuries, but I would take Chris Simms over Eli just because I can at least find leadership qualities in Simms.
Eli hasn't been great and he takes blame b/c he's not a great leader but Strahan has been a leader w/ that team for far longer and the biggest reason that team disappoints every year is b/c they are out of control and Strahan being a leader of that team takes as much responsibilty as Eli. I hate when guys criticizeothers w/o looking in the mirror. Of course he was trying to force his way on another team, he wanted to play football not baseball. He did that to speed up the process of him getting traed.
I don't remember if Elway was a serious baseball prospect or not. I guess enough to give him leverage with the football people. On a related note, isn't it odd that Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders both came around at the same time as two-sport stars and it hasn't happened since? There are guys like Brian Jordan, but nobody that has excelled in two sports at once. What I thought was going to be a new trend turned out to be quite a coincidence, I guess.
I wouldn't exactly call what Deion did excelling in baseball. Bo on the other hand was a two-sport superstar and it destroyed his hips. Its a shame, but RBs take way more of a pounding than DBs.
Yeah, Deion wasn't the All-Star that Bo was but he did stick around a while and was kind of productive. Not close to what he was in football or to what Bo did. I'm just surprised there were those two or three guys and then nobody else for a long time. Also, I never knew until I watched Brooklyn Dodgers last night that Jackie Robinson was the nation's leading RB as a freshman in college.
As a freshman, damn! At least he knew which sport would be more forgiving in the long run. With baseball's ridiculously bloated contracts and ease on the body, I'm surprised anyone given the choice would choose football. I'm glad they do though, cause baseball gives me the yawns.
I said what I said...Eli makes Klingler look like a genius...When it comes to decision making. But of course, Manning "isn't an idiot."
Manning has no leadership qualities at all. He's hyped based on name recognition alone. Strahan, on the other hand, does lead, but it's counter-productive. He shows the young players how to whine, bitch, moan, and complain, and shows how everything is always, and I mean, ALWAYS about him. I still remember when Warren Sapp said there should be an asterisk by the sack record after Strahan "broke" it, and Strahan's reply was to tell Sapp that he wasn't the best DT in the game so he shouldn't be talking about the best DE in the game. He has a huge ego and I personally think he's a POS. But that's just one man's opinion
Let's not go overboard...it wasn't JUST his last name that hyped Eli...he was only the 5th SEC qb ever to get over 10,000 yards and holds like 50 school records, most of which had been his fathers. he has all the skills (though his passes can be wobbly, he just hasn't gotten the mental part yet and hasn't taken control yet...i think part of that is that he hasn't had to...but now with Tiki gone, he will be the MAN in the huddle and we can now see if he will step up. i think we need to wait this year to label him a bust. and i think strahan isnt nearly as bad as you say. instead of being upset when they drafted a DE last year in the first round, he took kiwanuka under his wing and helped him become a pretty good player...i think we shouldn't confuse his occasional brushes with the media with how he is as a teammate.
Do you think Eli has the potential to learn the leadership skills he seems to lack? (If such a thing can be learned.) Also, Eli seems to "second" guess himself. He needs to get some confidence. I'm sure living in your big brother's shadow must be a real confidence killer thou. fftopic: Love your avatar.
i do think Eli has the potential, he is a smart guy, everyone who has been around him has said that. But it just has not translated to the field yet. i think he is confident and he is def. always talking and asking questions and talking to his teammates, but he does not exude confidence in others. from what others have said who have been around eli and peyton, it just seems like eli does not have "it"...the leadership ability. you can hear this when he does interviews, does he sound as confident or anything as Peyton? no, nor does he have the personality that peyton does, but the reason i say he has the potential is that with peyton, his father, new qb coach there, IF it can be taught, they are going to be the ones to do it. this is a make or break year for him
It'll be interesting to watch this year. Maybe now that Tiki is gone and took all the negativity with him, Eli can try to step up. Like you said, this year is a make or break year for Eli, if he don't do it this year, I predict him warming a bench somewhere else as a medicore back-up. Still loving the avatar.
