Wow Ive read every page here and my eyes are tired lol I am glad to see so many guys passionate about the one position that will ultimately win us a SB ...QB Even better we discuss I guy we DRAFTED not the pros and cons of some pick up off the scrap heap for $ So the problem here is as I see it is that half the Board really believes Petty will play like a first rounder with adequate coaching and bc this CS with Toilet sucks moose C+ck Petty got screwed badly...everybody else thinks the kid just aint got it Let me ask you this .......do MOST 4th round QBs over several drafts ever achieve greatness.???.some of the guys here will point to the great ones who were taken in late rounds like Big Ben Wilson etc Three years later Petty even with limited playing time is what he is ..4th round talent. (hey and I really like his personality) You just CANT compare him with Wentz and Goff 2 legit first rounders who had a learning curve their first year...they are INHERENTLY more talented than BP..so saying Petty had "no opportunity to get better coaching " is not really a true comparison To sum up, better coaching would have made Petty into a better 2nd Round QB..(lol hes better than 6th round (truth be told) Hackenberg}
The future QB of the Jets is not currently on the roster. The faster people realize it, the better. I think the FO already has.
I think this whole notion that Petty and Hackenberg got less attention from the coaching staff than anyone else because they were not No. 1 picks is false. I think they got just as much attention as Goff and Wentz got from their coaching staffs. The difference is "opportunity." I think if your not a No. 1 pick, the club has very little money invested in you and therefore, it's up to the QB to prove he's as good as a No. 1 pick by convincing the CS he is. That's when the opportunities come. Conversely, the team will have invested a significant amount of money in a top QB pick. Now, it's in the club's best interest to make sure your investment not only gets the training but also gets the opportunity to prove himself, because if he doesn't, the team can move on, but if he does, then the club has to make an even bigger investment. It may not seem fair to the "also drafted QB's" but as they say, "money talks......."
How exactly did the CS develop Petty? Not letting him practice with the first team, calling plays that don't take advantage of his strengths? Yeah, Petty needs to own responsibility too, but this CS did him no favors. And I don't think it's personal, as some here feel, I just think Bowles & Co. don't know how to develop and OFFENCE, let alone a QB. I think Petty has done well, all things considered, but he can't overcome a poor CS.
lmao @ this thread ... Petty trash, trash, trash! I guess we should give him some first team reps this week
