Im with you bro, I Agree. We bring in a new coach who has the fire and passion and get us a big receiver and a Corner/Safety and lets re-up and fucking do this thing. It aint over and us as Jets fan's have seen much much worse There's no doubt about that.

    Okay, I will be optimistic.

DL - Jenkins, one overrated guy, and nothing else
LB - Harris, Pace, and nothing else
DB - Revis, Rhodes, and nothing else

Five out of 11 starters are solid players.

OL - Mangold, Ferguson, Faneca, Woody
    QB - Ratliff?
    HB - Jones, Washington
    WR - Coles, Cotchery
    TE - Keller

Nine out of 11 starters are solid players. No one to scare defenses. Desperately need a franchise QB and a threat at wide receiver.

Coaches - No head coach, terrible OC, terrible DC

Okay, I feel much better now. :breakdance:

    HELL YEAH!!!!

I see a defense with Pro Bowl caliber players at every level... DL, LB, CB and S....

I think Lowery improves as well.. What the defense needs is Schemes and to ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK - you don't let mediocre QB's pick you apart.

I see an emerging OL and TE that can use another WR weapon....

I see a lot of great coaching candidates.... And heck, I'm even fine with Clemens / Rhatliff and a QB battle, maybe add another...

THIS really is Nothing, in Jets universe.. I'm shocked at the whining going on and people claiming to be giving up on the Jets... Really the past 10 years have set the bar a little higher - Now Jets fans jump off bridges after a 9-7 year with a Lot of very fixable problems...

Sheesh. we've had years with bottom of the barrel talent and a bunch of buffoons being interviewd for HC....

I'm DAMN EXCITED and see a lot of OPPORTUNITY Right here Right now!!!!!!

During most of the decade of the 2000s, I was labeled a sunshiner on this board. We had multiple winning seasons and we had playoff appearances and with those, hope that the Jets could put things together and win a championship. The Jets had winning seasons in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2006. All of those but 2001 were playoff appearances. In the years that the Jets did not have winning seasons - 1999, 2003 and 2005, the reason was injuries, particularly to the QBs.

We had an all-time great RB, a good OL until 2005, some good receivers in Johnson, Moss, Coles and Chrebet and an impact player on defense (Abraham). We had some incredibly exciting games and seasons. Yet, during this period, all I heard was whining on this board about the GM, the coach and the QB. All I heard was that the goal was to win the SB and after 40 years of failure making the playoffs was not good enough. Anything short of a SB was considered failure. Excitement and playoffs be damned, we need a SB. That was why the GM went, along with Edwards and some players. And that is why Pennington went too. He was good, but not good enough, it was said, to win a SB (forget that recent SB winning QBs include an embattled Eli Manning (until the last few games of last year), an inconsistent Ben Rothlesberger, Brent Johnson, Tom Brady (in 2001 as a game manager) and Trent Dilfer)

I didn't think things were that bad until 2007, when the entire team broke down and it was clear that mass improvements were needed.

Those improvements were made and the team was clearly upgraded in 2008 and headed in the right direction.

Now as we look at the season, I am as disappointed in the Jets as I have been since the 1980s. Why? Because there is talent on this team that is being squandered. This team has a good OL, has a running game with good RBs, and has adequate receivers. The secondary has two All-Pro caliber players and and an up and comer in Lowery. The LBs are good with Harris, Barton and Pace. Jenkins shored up a big problem in the middle.

With all of that, this team underachieved. I find an underachieving team much harder to take than the horrible teams of, say 2007 or 1995-6. Why? Because you see what might have and could have been. There is no dominant team in the NFL this year. This Jet team should have been 12-4 and in the thick of the SB chase. Instead we are left with this mess.

Why? Well, the main thing is that the QB position is in disarray. We have a 40- year old has been and three young question marks. Secondly, this team still has no pass rush. It seems that the Jets were able to scheme our way to sacks early in the year, but there is not a pass rusher on the team (which is why Golston should have been given a shot, particularly late in the year). Third, the coaching was terrible this year.

So now we have this team with more talent than we've seen since 2004 or 1998, but we are missing the key ingredient - a QB. And where does the QB for 2009 and 2010 come from? It's not Favre. And Clemens, Ratliff and Ainge are unproven. I don't want another one year stop gap like Garcia or Carr or some other team's trash. The frustrating part of this season is that this is a team that was being built to win for a few years, and we wasted a year with Favre instead of finding a long term answer at QB. You don't waste years in the NFL.

Now we need a new HC. So we are, in a sense, starting over.... again.

Not exactly. You can't interview Cowher, the one whom we really wanted. And we already lost out on Mangini. See, the reasons Cowher did not want to come here are well known. 1) Our QB situation stinks (while the guy Woody just let go before the season in MVP runner-up and rated #2 QB in NFL). 2) Franchise is "historically dysfunctional", i.e. no stability (Woody just let go the youngest HC in the League, who led us to play-offs, turned 4-12 team into 9-7, beat NE 2 out of 3 years, all as first time coach in 3 years). 3) Coach does not get final say on personnel decisions (this is Woody's philosophy today - even after watching Parcells succeed and Belichik win SB after SB with exactly the opposite philosophy).

Now, three things I mentioned above are HUGE. It is what defines organization, it is the reasons while Cowhers of this world do not even want to interview with the team, even though their family could live in the area and Jets job would allow them to see their family more. Woody created a loser culture in this organization, in other words a mess. And as hopefully I was able to demonstrate to you, it is far more than just perception.

To add to I was talking about, now Mike Shanahan wants no part of the Jets, just like Cowher (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...rget_him_mike_shanahan_no_longer_in_je-1.html). Not that I want Mike, but just goes to show you how deeply our problems lie, that accomplished NFL HCs will not even look at the team. And someone is saying we should be happy that we can pick whoever we want now, and this franchise is in great shape. As you can see, not quite.

Maybe they should just contract the Jets. It'd end total misery for so many, right?

What the hell, man? You're just a Favre fan, so you have no business getting on someone for being a Pennington fan. There are enough freelance policemen on the internet as it is.

No, it isn't. It's much darker in the middle of the night than it is before the dawn. How about, "no matter how bad things are, they can always get worse"?

    Callahan?

Uh...weren't you paying attention to his last year in Oakland or the subsequent years at Nebraska.

That man should NEVER be a head coach again...ANYWHERE!!!

    Very good post.

The Jets DO have a very talented team out there, and even though we couldn't land Cowher, there are plenty of other candidates out there who can get the job done.

Personally, I'm worried about Woody's thought process and how it affects the Jets... I think the handling of Favre / Mangini et all has been very poor.

At the end of the day though, only one thing matters to me... the Jets winning the Super Bowl.

If Woody gets us a coach that delivers that for us, then who cares how he handled whatever, honestly?

I just hope he goes out and does it.
