Btw neither the Jenkins signing or this one is official so the numbers we're seeing don't mean anything yet
As much as all those other positions are positions of need, a fucking decent college punter last year and we make the playoffs. _
brick has to be cut or take about 5m a year otherwise there is no money left to sign anybody..especially a qb...of course then who will replace him, a pick?
It's a domino affect. Once they traded Mo or cut Brick/Breno I'd bet we see McLendon, a tackle and our quarterback signed or some combination of the two. The front office needs to wait until cap space is cleared before any of these things can take play. Trading Mo and cutting Brick frees over $24 million in space combined. On the player, McLendon would be a great signing and an ideal replacement for Snacks. He comes from the same system in Pittsburgh to basically hold your ground, eat up two blockers and not get pushed around. He's a good stop gap. This team is gearing up for life without Wilkerson between this signing and Jenkins. Mac is building a line of depth rather than super stardom, and will rely on role players like these two to hold the fort before Sheldon returns from suspension and hopefully starts to rush the passer.
Was Snacks a product of the guys around him or was Snacks a force in and of himself? Can you stick a McClendon in the middle of that line and get similar production? If so, this would be a great move by Mac. _
Harrison got a 5 year deal, $46 million deal with $24 million guaranteed. Jenkins and McLendon are also 2 players, so if one gets injured the other is still available. We probably would have signed Jenkins either way for depth.
@RapSheet #Jets reached a deal with DT Steve McLendon on a 3-yr deal worth up to $12M, according to Richard Kopelman of @KLASS_Sports. $4M guaranteed
I love how the Fitz stale mate isn't hindering MM off-season plans ... looks like a strong possibility of Mo being traded on or close to draft night
He's very expensive for a 30 year old roleplayer if the deal is actually $4M a year. It's giving me the Kimo Von Oehlhoffen shivers at that number. If you make this kind of signing you really need to make sure you've got a shot at the year because the guy is not going to do anything to give you a shot at the year himself, he's just going to fill a hole that would otherwise maybe deep-six the year. It could also be a clubhouse move in the event the Jets are seriously contemplating trading Mo. Need some veteran glue in the clubhouse at that point and McLendon is that.
@RapSheet Cool Steve McLendon tidbit: #Steelers only invited him to camp in 2009 when another player backed out. Cut 5 times. Hung tough. Cashed in.
The Steelers do this kind of stuff all the time. They have somebody in camp who was undrafted and he wasn't good enough but then they invite him back and eventually he makes the team. James Harrison became a star in that scenario. There have been others also. How many organizations will tell a player they're not good enough and then have that player keep coming back until they stick? I'm still not that happy taking their leftovers at 30. I do understand why the Jets would make a move like this but it requires a lot of additional steps to really pay off.
I'm friends with a Steeler fan who liked McLendon alot....Very solid under the radar player We'll be just fine on the DL
