Drops are an official stat kept these days. The stat that I would like to also see is "uncatchable targets" I know in Hills case as with all Jets receivers ... There are quite a few. I would also like to see a "contested pass of equal opportunity" category. NFL.com has a subscription package giving access to coaches film of all games (not tv view highlight reels). ... However I would like a service where u can do a search like "Stephen Hill pass attempts" and just get a montage of all those plays. I'm sure something like that is on the horizon for all us geeks and wanna bees Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Great post. This is definitely a make or break season, if not a make or break training camp for Hill. Decker could be a good influence on him.
Even still some Jets fans were very patient with Gholston despite him doing less then Hill in his first 2 seasons. All I heard during that time was "dont release him because he'll catch on somewhere else and be a stud" And this was during a time where we needed a pass rush as badly as we needed WR's last season. These guys were drafted to fill a glaring need. And both failed miserably. And the pro style of offense arguements just supports my claim that Hill was taken way before he should've been. But even still when you're taken in the 2nd round I think the expectation is to come in and produce immediately.
If the mantra of competition holds true then its up to Hill to show us if he is for real this year. If he plays like the Hill every one was expecting to get in the draft upon maturity then he will see plenty of action along side Decker...draft or no draft. He has enviable speed and strength, he just needs to get his timing and mental aspect under control.
I definitely see where u are coming from. Usually "projects" like Hill are not drafted until rounds 3-5. What propelled him was his height and speed. But they did draft him in the 2nd ... Other teams had a 1st round grade on him, despite everyone knowing that he was a multi year project. It would have been better if he slowly developed starting out as a 3rd or 4th wr .... Unfortunately he was thrust into a staring role on day 1. Lets hope this is a case of a youngster taking his lumps and learning. I really want him to do well. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Totally agree with u here man. Especially regarding the competition part. No doubt he will be forced to compete at the very least this summer. The cream will rise. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
We would all love to see him be that 2nd round pick we thought he was when they took him. That will be a huge hill to climb to get there.
Likewise. There is really no downside with him earning a roster spot and working his way back up the depth chart.
Do you know what you are looking at with those two stat lines? If they were both QB's the top guy completed 40.7% of his passes for 5.8 yards per attempt. The bottom guy completed 60% of his passes for 7.05 yards per attempt.
Yup, mediocre at best. I wasn't arguing that they were the same, but people are acting like Nelson put up respectable numbers, which,. Meh. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There was quite a few balls that he should of pulled in last year that they didnt give him an official drop for. If you would get off Hills sack and watch the games, maybe you would notice.
I did watch all the games ... Did you? I saw Geno throwing like Rick Vaughn. The ints in the NE game I think a couple of them were Hill targets that he had no shot of catching even with a rocket up his ass to quote bob Euker. I'm not on his sack I'm just not a typical crazy delirious football dumb jets fan who thinks drinking booze and asking girls to flash them is the main event at MetLife. Tavon Austin dropped more balls than Hill did his rookie here so please don't talk out of your ass. Please show me those many passes he should of brought in. I don't doubt that there may have been a a couple but so what u could say that about every wr in football. You sound like the same delusional fans who keep regurgitating Hill sucks because of his stone hands yet it was a fact that he had the lowest drop rate in the NFL last year with 50+ targets. Smith's poor play did make it more difficult to assess Hill. I expect they will see how he plays with Vick in camp to get more info on him.
Definitely agree with that. It does take two to tango in the passing game. If the QB can't get the ball in a reasonable vicinity...or help the receiver out with fakes, jukes and play action then the rate of success drops. Sustained average to good QB play will definitely go a long way in help the assessment of Hill.
I hate this retort, Of course people watched the games, It's like everyone that doesn't agree with your opinion has only 2 options; Insult you, or claim you don't watch the games. I've posted this before, Will again here - I think everyone on both sides of the argument should read this article; http://thejetsblog.com/bga/bga-receivers-hill-streak-blues/ Unfortunately optimism or adverse opinions is often viewed here as "homerism" and "on <insert player here>'s sack". Anyone who comes back with that argument I usually just ignore. It's amazing how much "grass is greener" applies here, Maybe it's the green or something. People always want what we don't have, and don't want what we have. Even when it's good.
