I hope you're right about Saunders. I think Cooks will be, so there's no reason to think that Saunders can't at least be a significant contributor on offense as well. I totally understand where you're coming from on Hill, and can't disagree with anything you say. As I said in the post you quoted, I never wanted him. I always thought he would be a wasted pick (bust), but since he's here and we expended multiple picks to get him, we have to not only hope that he will develop, but the team needs to give him every opportunity to develop. 6'4" guys with the speed that he has who have the physical tools (well, at least all except maybe the hands) that he has and have a chance to develop into a dangerous weapon need to be given every opportunity. Some of us are late developers, and it often does take WRs a year or two to develop into quality, consistent players. He's probably not the sharpest pencil in the box, either, and when coupled with all the time he's been injured the last two seasons, it's understandable that he hasn't developed any faster. I agree that if the rookie WRs are looking better and showing more potential than Hill by the time TC is over with, then the roster spots probably ought to go to them over him. He's supposedly a pretty good blocker, so if he doesn't develop at WR, maybe they can have him put on 30-40 pounds and become a blocking TE. lol
http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/20...hill_he_has_looked_just_excellent_so_far.html Mostly about Hill's progress through camp so far, And this probably just means Marty is as clueless as the rest of the idiots on the board who support Hill's career. lol.. TBH - I think this is more about Marty being excited about his new offense, what do you guys think?
Watching Hill last season - hands don't seem to be a problem anymore. Body control combined with route running is where he needs to get more polished. Hopefully he doesn't regress with his hands in order to make strides in the other two areas.
Camp, OTAs w/e, I really don't think it means anything. I think Martys a funny little guy though. I like to listen to him talk football. I think we saw a little bit of the opposite last season where he sacrificed route / body to ensure the catch. Hopefully with a little more meat n him he can take a few more hits and keep his confidence high... Though I really can't blame him for this, Geno basically chained Hill to a boulder in front of a mac truck on top of a moving train. I would have hung up my cleats after this if I could still walk. Hill went back out and finished the game ( but was never really the same after ) Held onto that football though.
I believe those lists were the final rosters, ( from wikipedia fwiw ). They included the WRs that were injured but not those that were cut. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_New_York_Jets_season http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_New_York_Jets_season
Not saying you're wrong I'm saying that since Rex has been here we've always STARTED the season with 5 receivers. Which was the point of my post.
Morningwood is always saying positive things about everyone. He's kind of like Rex in that regard. I'll believe it when I see it.
My mistake, I misunderstood... However - the 2012 opening day roster was right above that, and we did start with 6. With 3 of them being Clyde Gates, Chaz Schilens and Patrick Turner. So, it's not unheard of. I think Rex can find a spot or 2 on the roster for depth. 2012 ( 6 ): 19 Clyde Gates 84 Stephen Hill 10 Santonio Holmes 11 Jeremy Kerley 85 Chaz Schilens 88 Patrick Turner
Hill will be a decent to good receiver for the jets. I don't get most post here whining about a third year WR who wasn't an instant star, like all the other WR's in the league. I'm glad to know that there are alot of fans who still have faith in Hill and still cheer for him.
Sigh, I was trying to just make light of the comment. As I said my main point was I think it's amusing listening to marty talk football. I misspoke when I said camp. My original post should have read 'Through Meetings/OTAs thus far". I apologize for the discrepency.
haven't seen them ... honestly I don't pay all that much attention until camp starts. What did he say?
Nope, he got waived right after the first game ( Sept 11 ) and then signed after the 3rd,.. and then cut after the 4th. Splitting hairs here but just the same. They will and have kept 6 WRs on the roster if they need to. Specially with so many unproven guys.
any list that begins with clyde gates and ends with Patrick Turner should either be titled practice squad or used as shit tickets.
