totally agree. Although I want Geno Smith to start right away, it's best to step back & let him earn it that spot. No way should he simply be handed the starting QB job.

Let him sit, this is critical with a young QB who still needs to work on a few things. Don't throw him to the wolves and allow him to persist in playing habits that he will have to eventually unlearn and change. Let him learn the game from the sideline before you put him in.

I think he needs work on his footwork and more work reading defenses. Hope Garrard is healthy enough to let him sit and watch and learn.

I will make a case here for David Garrard to start. David Garrard is the perfect mentor for Geno Smith. They are both strong armed mobile QB's, and I think it would really behoove Geno to sit on the bench a little and take in the NFL slowly, while studying under Garrard.

The Eagles had a similar situation with Doug Pederson filling in as a veteran in a temporary starting role for Donovan McNabb who was just drafted despite the unpopularity of the pick by Eagles fans. Even though he only sat for about 10 weeks, he was able to learn a great deal from the bench, and McNabb went on to have a very successful 10 year career.

Just found this video- Sal Pal explains it very well here: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=9217748&categoryid=2378529

Should wait, but I am betting he either gets the nod or Sanchez starts sucking so bad he gets thrown in there fairly quickly near the first part of the season.

No actually all 4 of my posts have been more about this franchise. Geno would have done much better anywhere else but here.

Hey when you finally get fed up some people might not like what you have to say. Sometimes truth hurts but you need to keep it out there not sweep it under the rug. You call me a troll b.c you cannot face that what I am saying is a concern.

Let him hold the clipboard, probably going to be doing it most of his career anyway so let him get practice. The real discussion should be who is he going to be backing up next year? My money is on Johnny Football but Bridgewater is still a possibility of course.

If there is a fair QB competition and he beats Sanchez and Garrard I don't see why he can't start. I understand you want him some time to develop, but I think we need to see what we have in him. He will probably start within the first 10 games.

Anyone throwing dirt on Geno and throwing our season away saying we're headed to a top 3 pick needs to GTFO and never come back

why so much negativity from this fan base

Shit we could of still got Smith in the 3rd round. No other team was going to touch him for at least another 20 picks. Despite what the TV people were saying he was not even a top three QB. He will suck just as bad as Sanchez, just not cost as much doing it.

too many people drink Kiper's coolaid. If he was coming out next year he would have been in the top five, we should have waited, instead of wasting a pick on a project.

The Circus was starting to get boring so they got a new act.

Our season wasn't going to be pretty before the Geno pick, now we used a valuable pick on him and didn't address major areas of need that would have actually helped for the upcoming season. I mean, if Smith has a rock solid Russell Wilson type season that's great only problem is who does he have to throw to or hand off to? A declining Holmes who hasn't played in a year and to mid range guys at best in Hill and Kerely, garbage at TE and a jumble in the backfield (although I think Ivory will be okay, not 1000+ yards but okay). Not exactly setting him up for success, is it?

Honestly even pro-Smith people should want him to sit out this year since our terrible offense is going to make him look bad, would be better served to let Sanchez or Garrard be the sacrificial lambs and next year bring in offensive weapons for Smith...or an actual franchise QB (sorry, had to get a shot I'm there)

    I totally agree with northernjet.

half the people like the pick yet more than half say he should sit. We could have gotten a real player now and a great QB next year.
