Well, this is interesting: http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/02/05/star-wars-spinoffs-disney/ Disney confirms production on 'Star Wars' spinoffs by Darren Franich Walt Disney CEO and owner-of-your-childhood Bob Iger talked to CNBC today and revealed some intriguing, albeit semi-abstract, news about the company’s plans for the Star Wars franchise. “We are working on a few standalone films,” Iger said, explaining that the company is planning to produce an indeterminate number of spin-off films to run alongside Episodes VII, VIII, and IX. “[Lawrence] Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters,” continued Iger. He also clarified that Kasdan and Kinberg are both working with director J.J. Abrams on Star Wars: Episode VII, which is being written by Toy Story 3‘s Michael Arndt. According to Iger’s roadmap for the franchise, the sequel trilogy will run for six years starting in 2015, with a new movie hitting theaters every three years. The spin-offs would be released in between — a rough approximation of the Disney-Marvel Avengers mega-franchise. Since he declined to name which characters could be getting the spin-off treatment, this news allows us to indulge in a flagrant bit of rumormongering. Kasdan co-wrote Empire Strikes Back, which introduced fan-favorite character Boba Fett, so perhaps he’s working on a bounty hunter movie. Kinberg wrote various X-Men movies, so perhaps he’s writing about a team, like say… a Rogue Squadron spin-off. Both of those theories are probably false, but we encourage you to spread them around the Internet, just in case.

There's a whole bunch of movement happening at the Magic Kingdom these days... Mayimbe was talking about Marvel's HULK Plans and how they may affect the 3rd AVENGERS film... We're focused upon the sequel trilogy we've been waiting for most of our entire lives. But the wild success of THE AVENGERS and the anticipated gargantuan STAR WARS with JJ Abrams directing.. it has reformatted alot of Disney's plan. IMAGINEERING had been working up ideas for a grand expansion at DISNEYLAND that was to bring Frank L Baum's OZ into a fully realized extension of the park, and while I'd love to go there... The word I'm hearing now is they've dropped that in lieu of a STAR WARS extension in California Adventure Park. OZ could happen, but only if Raimi's film is a stunning success. But you're not hear for the themepark buzz... or maybe you do care desperately like I do. But really, what's Disney going to be doing with these STAND ALONE films... Well, to start with they're going to focus on established characters and do solo films, no, not necessarily Han Solo films, but well, fuck it... The first Stand Alone film is going to center upon YODA. At this stage specifics are sparse, but Kathleen Kennedy is putting together a STAR WARS slate... I'm wildly curious for more details on the YODA film - would this be a young or old YODA tale? Knowing that Lucasfilm is doing a series of stand alone character features... I wonder if Joe Johnston has pitched Kennedy his stand alone BOBA FETT film he was talking about after the release of Captain America. Hmmmmm... Now, let's chase after YODA details... Where's FRANK OZ? Giggle. Gotta love chasing STAR WARS stories! Oh - and I've also heard tale of a JABBA story that Lucas has floated to some of his buddies. But word is YODA is first.
A Darth Maul spinoff could be fun. To bad Christopher Lee isn't younger. A Dooku spinoff could have badass as well.
Those two break my heart as a Star Wars fan. Ep 1 was so incredibly botched it is hard to believe. The only truly Star Wars element of that film is the Darth Maul light saber fight (Duel of the Fates is a great Star Wars theme). Ep 2 to some degree is even harder to swallow, because the last 45 minutes would be very strong...if not for the atrocious dialogue. The Jedi in action in the arena is great (but C3PO is cringe-worthy...."what a drag" ugh).
Absolutely!! DOTF is quite possible the greatest single score piece evaaar! There are others that are close to the level of epic but for me, that was it. Ironically, it's in the biggest failed clusterfuckups in cinematic history!
People who loved the original Star Wars hated that episodes 1-3 were made for the kids they used to be and not the adults they had become. Just as 10 year olds in 1977 loved the originals, so did 10 year olds in 1997 love the prequels, in my experience.
"COORRRRRRNNNNNN ON THE COOOOOOOOBB!!!" I actually liked Episode 1. It's certainly not the 4-6, but I liked the Pod-racing, Darth Maul was cool, the light saber duel was sick and the gungans (minus Jar Jar) had a really cool habitat. Episode 2 was terrible though. Yeesh!

the difference is that adults also loved the original trilogy when they were released, but adults think the prequels are crap. if every single adult that hated the prequels were Star Wars obsessed nerds, rather than just average movie goers who though the movies sucked because they were badly made movies, you would have a point. but the overwhelming opposition to the prequels, including film reviews, indicates that they are badly made movies that only appeal to children. the original films, on the other hand, received quite favorable reviews and appealed to all ages.
