ok, so I watched all 6 Star Wars movies for the first time in my life recently. I still don't see what the big deal about Star Wars in general is. However, I will say that I enjoyed episodes 4-6 a lot. Episode 3 was good. 1 & 2 were steaming piles of crap.

In time, you may find that episode 3 suxs as well. To fully appreciate episodes 4-6 (the original 1-3), I think you must play with the toys in your backyard. I get to be Han Solo if we play together. My labrador gets to be Chewie. My only black friend must be Lando or Darth Vader.

Id rather have them all die and go 20-50 years into the future, they can have a presence but maybe build on a new storyline. Stop living with Luke and a old ass Harrison Ford as Han Solo.

You need to put it into context. At the time they were made the original trilogy (4-6) was state of the art, groundbreaking film making. Then imagine watching episodes 4-6 a hundred times in your childhood. That is what made Star Wars a "big deal". The prequel trilogy (1-3) were an incredible disappointment. What is frustrating is that the frameworks of these stories were fine. The problem was the execution (horrible dialogue, the worst character in the history of film, and really bad acting/casting for Anakin). You could modify 20% of each of those films and make them almost as good as the original trilogy. In the hands of a good writer and director, the franchise can become great again (look at the Nolan Batman movies and the James Bond reboot).

I think the order you watch them matters. I like the IV, V, II, III, VI arrangement (just pretend I doesn't exist).

I don't love Abrams, but when the other finalist was Ben Affleck I think I'm quite relieved by the decision.

I didn't think Abrams was going to do it because of his involvement w/ Star Trek and that he wanted to see the movie as a fan. Either way, this is good news for Ep 7

Star Wars would be amazing if they gave it darker, more violent feel. I remember reading a book that was just about the stories of the bounty hunters. It was really cool because it was gloomy, scary, and violent. I'd guess that many of the books about the Star Wars universe are like this as well. Empire Strikes Back is by far the best movie in the series because it had this darker feel. Of course Lucas fired the producers of that and put Return totally into his own hands and we ended up with little teddy bears running around the enchanted forest. I wish they would go in the Nolan Batman direction (a Boba Fett movie like that would be awesome). Sadly Star Wars is too invested in selling merchandise and toys to children and being bought by Disney only confirms this.

I wouldn't dismiss Disney. They're the ones behind all the Avengers character movies and the group one that have all had at times scenes that you wouldn't see in Tim Burton's Batmans or the prequel Star Wars. Picking Abrams is a good choice.

ok, we will find out. I did think John Carter was pretty good, wasn't that disney? it was a flop because the marketing for it sucked. I like the avenger movies but I want to see dark knight doom and gloom in star wars, I think that's very unlikely to happen tho.
